USC is a dirty program, just like the rest of the successful ones. Don't kid yourself TBA.

Secondly, the football players shouldn't have put themselves in positions to even have the rape charges leveled. Just like Big Ben. Doesn't matter if he did it or not. I don't blame Carrol personally. Even the allegations get the spotlight turned onto a program like theirs.

The money that is changing hands these days is enormous...all scrupolousness is long gone.

This keeps getting brought up. Call the IRS to check it out- i'm sure they will have interest in income being hidden.

I'm sure people will lament the day that the Feds got involved, but they are the only ones who have the power to really stop all of this ilegal money from changing hands. These are public schools, or at least the schools are being funded by public money.

Find any degree of evidence, and call anyone in the FBI or IRS. They will be happy to take the fine money as well as the taxes.

True.... Taxes was how they took down Capone. Its a shame that the NCAA doesn't have the fortitude to bring down the hammer any on its moneymakers. Its supposed to be a non-profit outfit right??

I'd like to think that OSU, and it's fans, would understand Tressel benching anyone who put themselves above the team like that. I bet almost every OSU alumni player who treasures his pair of gold pants (and many OSU fans) are enraged by the fact that these guys not only broke the NCAA and team rules, but that they also spit on their school by selling off cherished tradition for cash.

Not a chance, the OSU fans arent upset with the players, they will blame the NCAA and whine that everyone is doing it. Are Auburn fans upset with Scam Newton? Did they care about the Pay for Play? It is about winning, not about tradition.

Thus why the NCAA should have been far more draconian about stuff in the past. If everybody knows you're going to get your nuts nailed to the wall regardless of who you are, then the pressure would be on the kids not to screw up, not to get caught.

More trouble for Ohio State?

One day later, Ohio State officially announced that five Buckeye football players were suspended for five games due to NCAA violations involving Fine Line Ink.

Per the official NCAA release, the violations included the sale of the following items:

Mike Adams: Sale of 2008 Big Ten championship ring
DeVier Posey: Sale of 2008 Big Ten championship ring
Terrelle Pryor: Sale of 2008 Big Ten championship ring
Solomon Thomas: Sale of 2008 Big Ten championship ring

But on his Facebook page there were photos of the owner of the tattoo parlor displaying 2009 swag, including the championship ring and "gold pants" for the 21-10 win over Michigan. Former Buckeye Antonio Pittman tweeted "This osu tattoo stuff is silly. Cats been gettin hookups on tatts since back in 01" (that tweet has since been deleted).

The OSU AD is trying to describe this as a single, isolated incident. Sure doesn't look like it.

I'll hold my breath waiting for the NCAA or SweaterVest to levy any further punishment.

I am starting to get the feeling Twitter is going to be the downfall of the old standards and practices for the NCAA. Before social networking it was all supposition and wink wink, nudge nudge. Everyone knew but since there was no one talking about it in public it could be ignored. Now these idiots are talking about smoking weed on their Facebook statuses, they are talking about boosters on Twitter so EVERYONE KNOWS! It is right in the face of anyone with internet access.

Sooner or later even the NCAA will have to act. You can only hide so much.

Attendance at the Independence Bowl is slightly underwhelming.

Yeah, but good to see AF beat Tech, and good to see the falcon back at the end of the game.

ESPN is selling a Wisconsin Rose Bowl Champions shirt. Of course, there is the minor technicality of playing the game first.

My favorite part of the page is this nugget:
AVAILABILITY: Leaves warehouse in 43 weeks.

Prompt.

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

Sugar Bowl CEO Paul Hoolahan:

“I made the point that anything that could be done to preserve the integrity of this year’s game, we would greatly appreciate it. That appeal did not fall on deaf ears, and I’m extremely excited about it, that the Buckeyes are coming in at full strength and with no dilution.”

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

Integrity of the bowl game, not of the sport of college football. No one would be silly enough to think the FBS cares about actual integrity.

Someone should have responded: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"

Re: College Football IV: The Hand over Fist Cash Grab Time, or Bowl Season for short.

LOL- bowl integrity.... just have to remember what the E stands for in E$PN.

real news might be upset over the rules vilations, but ESPN isn't about news, so count them out. And ABC owns them, so count them out.

The best we can hope for is that NBC and CBS get mad over losing their bowls- but with news now being more about entertaining the audience- I don't see that happening anytime soon. But if you ask me, with the bowls so spread out on E$PN, I know I'll miss most of the BC$. I still think college football ends on Jan 1, unless that is a Sunday.

Nice to see the University of Arizona faceplant again in its bowl. That's five losses in a row to end the season. Really, that was a mismatch the moment it was announced.

I would say "Pac 10 Tradition" but I am all about UO in the title game.

I wouldn't extrapolate the U of A's flops to represent a conference-wide trend.

Pac Ten bowl record in recent years:

2003-2004 4-2
2004-2005 3-2
2005-2006 3-2
2006-2007 3-3
2007-2008 4-2
2008-2009 5-0
2009-2010 2-5
Total: 24-16

I know. Shockingly, I was just being a jerk. Also, as a Notre Dame fan, I have permanently lost the right to diss anyone's bowl performance.

That is shocking, as you are generally a congenial poster. Though often wrong about things.;)
