Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

There's a rumor now being floated that Leslie Frasier is interested.

...Yeah, I also heard Mack Brown and Urban Meyer have given Maturi a call to let him know they are interested too...

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

In his press conference, Maturi said he called Tony Dungy. Dungy said he didn't want to coach, but would help with the search.

This is fantastic news. My guess was Maturi half-jokingly asked DUngy, "Are you 100% sure, there's no way you want to come coach?" No way he asked seriously.

Fantastic in that Dungy will have some input.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

You think OSU drops out of the top ten entirely? I wouldn't mind that, just don't see it happening.

Huh. It did happen, at least in the AP Poll.
Top 10:
Oregon
Boise State
Oklahoma
TCU
Auburn
LSU
Alabama
Michigan State
Utah
Wisconsin

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Gameday is heading to Mizzou. Guess the thought of highlighting a CBS game two weeks out of three left a bad taste in the mouth of the Mothership.

Mizzou-Oklahoma will be the 8PM ABC game.

ETA: Tweet from Fowler
We have no bias about CBS games. Were just at Ala-SC. But logistics can a play a role. MO is where ABC 8pm team has to be. Thnx for caring!

Uh huh.

Hell, if I was the head of espn, if we wasn't showing the game, then their would be no way I would send the gameday crew. That would just encourage your viewers to switch over to that game.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

I'm still interested in Mike Leach as head coach.

I wonder what it would take to get a mid-major to jump up. Like a Gary Patterson, Chris Petersen, or Kevin Sumlin type.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Sumlin would be the only one of those three you'd have a chance in hell of luring.

Petersen's getting 1.6 million on a rolling contract (extended 1 year every time he wins 8 games) and has the advantage of having watched Koetter and Hawkins take mediocre BCS jobs and take a beating. Hell, he was offered the USC job and turned it down. USC on probation is better than Minnesota.

Patterson just got extended last December at 2.5 million through 2016.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Don't see how that is possible given Oklahoma's place in the polls. I can see them #1 in the computer rankings, but they would have to jump over probably BSU and TCU in the polls to be at the top overall.

They only had to jump over TCU.

BSU isn't in terrible shape at #3, but they have another problem. Next Saturday, Auburn will play LSU, and one of them will still be undefeated. Whichever team that is will be breathing down BSU's neck, if they don't pass them entirely.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

I've heard a bunch of names mentioned for the Gophers job. I guess that is what happens when you listen to sports radio for the entire day.

Mike Leach (former Texas Tech coach)
Mike Price (UTEP head coach)
Kevin Sumlin (Houston head coach)
Paul Chryst (Wisconsin O-Coordinator)
Leslie Frazier (Vikings D-Coordinator)
Mark Mangino (fat *******)

But the most intriguing name I heard is Mark Richt, at Georgia. Apparently there are rumors that he's on the hot seat there, though the first I heard that was on KFAN, so I don't know how true it is. If he is let go, he'd probably be the one to get, though I doubt the Gophers could get that lucky.

I heard that Richt was on the hotseat outside of KFAN...hasn't lived up to crazy expectations down in Athens.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

If I were AD of a program in Minnesota's position, I'd rather take a chance on an unknown coach from a smaller but successful program than a guy who hasn't had success in the SEC. If you were a recruit, would you want to go play in a big time league for a coach who was on his way back down the ladder? Sounds like a recipe for getting your butt whooped a lot, if you ask me.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Marc Trestman, now coaching the Montreal Alouettes, is said to be one of 3-4 candidates on the shortlist. Eh?

I'd try to follow the path that worked for other schools in similar situations. If you want to build a program like Wisconsin or Iowa, then follow that same blueprint - hire a talented assitant from a big-name program that wants to build a program. Barry Alvarez came to UW as Lou Holtz's DC at Notre Dame, and part of the attraction was the ability to be the man and build a program from scratch. Kirk Ferentz came from the NFL as an OL coach, but had previous HC experience at Maine.
