I see his point, BUT what about academic scholarships? Not a lot of "pro" money or "likeness" money in those scholarships. Leave the scholarships alone.

I assume it's an intimidation tactic / diversion. It's a Republican pol from NC. Try to provoke a reaction then say "these spoiled athletes want the rights of a profession without the responsibilities." He doesn't even have to use the n-word.

And as a last flailing maneuver he can try and hold all college athletes hostage.

Slavery still has a lot of life left in it, no worries.

I’ve been saying for a while now, “in 30 or 40 years, we’re going to look back on this with shame. Sending poor minorities to early deaths with little compensation except for an elite few just so us rich people can yell and scream for more violence. It’ll be looked at like see the gladiators in Rome.”

That's a pretty sad reply to this issue. Especially when his friends can gamble on stocks, and pay less than half their tax rate on earnings.

Tax the income from endorsements- that's the easy, and appropriate, button.

Not sure where to put this but it looks as though G/O may just have summarily executed Deadspin as they did Splinter. If you wander over there stuff is happening in Comments that looks like staff insurrection.

Petchesky, Magary, Roth et al. are the talent and they would be well served just to do a United Artists and do their own thing.

I saw trouble brewing over there the last few months. This new head honcho sounds like a real piece of sh-t. The ads thing was a final straw for both parties.

It always amazes me about the people who write for those sites, brilliant, witty, acerbic, talented writers, who are at a very basic level dumber than my dog. Even my dog understands you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Go ahead and bite every other hand, but leave just that one alone.

The goal is to annihilate it.

This is such a breathtakingly oblivious take it has to be due to a basic difference in brain structure between humans and animals.

Gameday just talked about 4 games today that are must wins for both teams, otherwise the season is over- as in no bowl games.
One was Nebraska v Purdue.
5 of the rest 6 were SEC schools- Tennessee, Miss St, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.

Think about that- the "best" conference top to bottom could have 3 of their teams eliminated this week from bowl games, and the others next weekend if they, again loose. Someone needs to remind me why that conference is so good top to bottom. Old Miss also has 5 losses.

SEC has 6 teams with 5 or more losses, B1G 4. And we all know that SEC has a LOT of cupcakes on their schedules. Like Alabama A&M, NIU, Charleston So, Portland State, etc...

The problem is until they stop placing teams into the playoff and winning it nearly every year the average fan isn't going to think differently.

Meanwhile the PAC-12 has two teams in the top 10 and only two teams with 5 losses. 0 with 6+ losses. How much time did ESPN spend discussing that? Let me guess: 0 minutes.
