After having Michigan pushed down my throat since childhood, I want them to lose badly against Ohio State.
2 weeks ago 4th ranked A&M loses at unranked Miss State and falls 4 spots. Last week 3rd ranked Michigan loses at unranked Iowa and suffers no consequences remaining ranked 3rd.

Thx. Good explanation. The MSU loss was their second of the season. Not to mention that the week of the loss to MSU, MSU was ranked around 73rd with a 3-5 record while Iowa was ranked around 49th at 5-4. (Currently 65 and 37.)
The vast, vast majority of rankings systems agree that Michigan should stay at #3. http://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm
ETA: Combine that with A&M's best win was Auburn away. While Michigan has beaten PSU, Wisconsin, and Colorado (all at home) handing those teams 50% of their losses on the year.
Oklahoma defensive lineman Charles Walker has parted ways with the program, to the disappointment of his coach but undoubtedly to the elation of his family. For the best young players, college football is and should be the means to an end: getting paid.
Walker, a redshirt junior, is projected to go somewhere on Day 2 of the NFL draft, thanks in large part to a breakout season last year that saw him rack up six sacks and 10 tackles for loss, particularly impressive because they came from the DT position. But he hasn’t played this season since suffering a concussion on Oct. 1. The Oklahoman reports that it was at least his third concussion of his college career.
Thx. Good explanation.
Wonder if we'll see a lot more of this.
I would think guys who are going in the first round, and who are perfectly healthy, will start doing this. You're on a plantation and you've got a multi-million dollar pay day in your sights. Protect yourself. You owe massa nothing.
We have started seeing that- kids have been leaving early, when eligible, for a while now.
For Walker, I hope that he does not get another concussion before getting paid. If he goes in the 2nd round, and complete a season, that would be roughly a good career salary in a non-football job. Below that, then the $450k min, well- hope he can keep paying for school at OU.
It's a tough call sometimes- complete school so that one can do something besides football if there's an issue, or go for the money.
(not commenting on the idea of schools paying the athletes. I'm still thinking about that one)
The comments by Stoops are telling to me, though they may have been selectively edited by Deadspin. No mention of the concussion. Use of the phrase "quitting on your teammates."
As for the comments about completing school so you can do something besides football -- I don't know anything about the person or how mainstream a student he was, nor have I looked up statistics on Oklahoma, but I don't remember OU being among the better schools at graduating football players, especially African-American. And even if he did graduate, if he essentially majored in Football, his prospects aren't very good. While the prospects for a person with a college degree are certainly better than one without, the mere attainment of a college degree isn't a guarantee that he'll be able to get a good job.

Pac-12 has an interesting bifurcation this year. The top 6 teams (UW, WSU, Stanford, CU, Utah, USC) are a combined 27-1 against the bottom six teams (Cal, UO, OSU, UCLA, UA, ASU). The top 6 teams are also all ranked in the CFP rankings. The other 6 might all miss out on bowl eligibility if a few games go a certain way (UO, OSU, UA eliminated, UCLA and Call needing to run the table, ASU needing to win one remaining game).
I assume that's great news for the bottom 6, who will split that much more money of the top 6 get great bowl games.
At some point if you're a second division team in a power conference it will be against against your interests to beat a first division team.
Big Ten is in line for some great money. If the season ended today (with the assumption either OSU or UM will not be in the playoff) they would be in the Playoff, Rose, Orange and Cotton bowls. That's $18 million, six for the semi and four each for the other three NY6 bowls. If WMU can make it into the Cotton that would be an extra 333k for each MAC school.
Is it really that "low"? I thought the payouts were higher. huh...
That's just for being in a "playoff" game, not including the actual bowl payouts. I think. Rose and Sugar are $50 million, Orange ~$40 million and the other 3 $35ish, I think.
