So two interesting games on TV tonight- NU @ OSU and Bama @ LSU.

Seems like the talking heads are talking more about LSU- and not because bias- but that LSU is much better than the beginning of the season.

I'm not sure which I will watch- other than the game that is closer. Given how NW played and PSU won, I think NU does have a good chance- they are not quite as good as totally undefeated, but they played Wisconsin quite well last week. Certainly, OSU is the "better" team, but as of late, the team part has kind of drifted away.

While I tire of the southern hype, I can't deny that Bama is on a different level than all the other teams. While LSU is playing better, and are at home, I don't see that upset.

You're correct, they can only play the schedule they're dealt. But SOS has to be a major factor. Heading into today's games A&M has played the 20th toughest, Washington's SOS is 162. Conference SOS the SEC is 1 the PAC is 3rd behind the ACC.

Just saying.

28-14 at halftime. Which illustrates point number 1. The first rankings are about as meaningful as the PWR in December, which is to say not very, because there are a lot of games to be played. If Washington is undefeated at the end of the season, I'd be shocked if they're not in the playoffs.

I'm a lot less sympathetic to this argument in college football than I am in other sports. College football programs have a lot of control over who they play. You can't control if a team you thought would be a tough challenge sucks the year you play them, but you can try to schedule teams that are usually strong. Every program has their equivalent of Washington playing Portland State. But most programs try to schedule an OOC game that would qualify as a "good win." Washington scheduled Rutgers. Sorry, but I don't remember the last time Rutgers was any good, and when Washington scheduled Rutgers, I doubt they had any reasonable expectation that game could be a "good win".

That having been said, I was surprised that A&M was ranked ahead of Washington. While it's true their only loss was to a very good team, that loss wasn't all that close, almost three touchdowns. I think #4 should be within three touchdowns of #1.

I didn't think it could get worse than Bobby Williams. John L Smith appeared to try at times, but still nothing was as bad as that 2002 season. Until this year. 2016 is the worst MSU team I've ever seen.

If you try to protest the firing of Art Briles, you're gonna have a bad time. Baylor wearing black today to support a rape enabler, currently down 31-7 to TCU midway thru the 2nd.

LSU-Bama has been a tale of two defenses so far, although Bama with 2 consecutive 1st downs now.

Not that it will matter, but Minnesota controls its own destiny as far as winning the B1G West now.

Washington beats Cal 66-27 en route to staying ranked #5 because the CFP Committee will rank Ohio State #4.

The two evening games turned out to be oh, so very different.

OSU found their legs, no doubt about that. All of those "maybe they are not as good as we think" turns back to- wow, what a great team. On a side note, I didn't see the actual event that hurt Tommy Armstrong Jr, I did see the care of him being taken off the field and to a Columbus hospital. But I also god to see him jog back into the stadium, what a massive relief! That really shook up the broadcasters when it happened.

The Bama- LSU game was really entertaining. The two teams just beating themselves back and forth- mostly ruled on the D. The turning point- late in the 3rd, LSU's QB scrambled and tossed the ball to a close TE- who basically wrestled the bama back to make 5 yards- and that match kept going out of bounds. Too bad it did- as another bama back took a major cheap shot on an LSU player after the play. Thanks to the stuff out of bounds, all of the penalties offset. From there out, Bama played a lot better, and LSU seemed to play with too much personal emotion- and got tricked more than once. Not a massive turn, but enough that Bama scored 10, and LSU could barely move the ball.

I would normally not watch those games, but it was fun to watch.

It seems the Gopher fans have at least turned a corner in terms of being unsatisfied, even if the record looks okay. I'm the late '90s any winning record was cause for celebration. In the 2000s there would be a noticible amount of delusional Gopher fans crowing about a 7-2 record. This season everyone is PO'd that they're not 9-0 and certain they'll lose at least two of the last three (which is almost certainly true).

I guess I'm surprised we're 7-2. I thought we might be 6-3 by now. I'm not sure we've turned a corner yet. There's probably a small but very vocal contingent that thinks we should fire a coach that doesn't win the rose bowl but anyone who thinks we should be 9-0 is kind of crazy.
