College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Great first quarter, blah 2nd and 3rd, and while I was only able to listen to the 4th it sounded like both teams played well.

A few games already being affected by weather. Toledo-Stony Brook canceled at half time yesterday and Illinois-Kent delayed until tomorrow.

They're a fairly new program but my understanding is they've put together a halfway decent team pretty quickly and aren't the total tomato can that some nonconference games are. They gave the Wildcats all they could handle one other recent season.

Last year. UTSA isn't terrible by any means.

From the scoreboard, Minnesota is in a much better position than Michigan is right now.

Watched two games last night- one you may give a darn about- Michigan's D did ok- held Utah reasonably well- giving up 2 full TD drives, and 3 FG drives that Utah only got 1 for. Basically 23 points. Some big plays, which were bad, some poor tackling, too- but also some good pressure and whatnot. Competitive, but not extraordinary.

The offense- not good. I expected more out of a veteran QB- could be that the offense was just so new to him- but he forced most of the passes. And the long passes- 2 of the 3 were VERY open, and the 3rd was open enough that it should have been a pretty easy TD. Not even close. Not saying that he's bad- but not prepared enough. Harbaugh has a lot to do this week to fix a lot of things. Running game took a while to get going- and even there a lot of work for the runners- what are you seeing, what are you looking at- at least two plays the runner could have bounced out to a less obstructed path- maybe a few ore a lot more yards, maybe not- but for sure- less people. Maybe we thought Hoke's players were more talented than that. Jim has a lot to do work to do on the team- 1% a day may not get a bowl game this year.

And the game you don't care about- my Vandals. Holy cow the D is terrible. After 3 years of no middle/long coverage, one would think that SOME coaching would result in some halfway decent coverage- like a guy within a yard or two of a receiver. Nope. Guys were so wide open in the middle it was not even funny. Thankfully, the offense is better- less pressure on the QB, better running decent passing (MOS is much lower in Moscow than Ann Arbor). But a big beat down from the Bobcats of Ohio. Based on last year's game, Idaho should have been a whole lot closer, to the point that winning should have been a strong possibility. Not even close.
I've watched a lot of Rudock. Every snap of his Iowa career. He's pretty darn good across the middle of the field, which was evident on the Butt TD catch. That was a very well executed and tough throw, where only Butt could make the play. The pick six? Rudock CANNOT MAKE THAT THROW. Period. He blew a game with the same play in his very first start at Iowa. Rudock should be efficient and should protect the football. He looked a little nervous last night and his running game was pathetic. If Michigan wants to have some competency on offense, they have to run the ball far better than they did against the Utes. 76 rushing yards won't get it done, and it forced Rudock to throw 43 times which he just isn't good enough to effectively do.

So, after a M00N game between Northwestern and Michigan, we have a S33N for Stanford and NW

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Kevin hogan has been the starter at stanford since john elway left. I'm not sure how, guy is incredibly mediocre.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

This is how the Stanford-as-power era ends...... with a road loss to Northwestern.

I really don't think Minnesota's offense was as bad as people are making it out to be. TCU has an incredible team put together. I think that the score wasn't deceivingly close. I think Minnesota has a really, really good defense and kept it close.

We don't have the run to set up the pass any more. Last year he had his dad dying of colon cancer which I can see setting him off track for the year, but people were expecting much more of a bounce back this year. There was just no urgency or ummph with any of the team today. Hopefully they were just tired getting up so early...

Hackenburg should fake an injury and get drafted in the 5th round to save his life.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

10 sacks by Temple. Penn State has to go to Columbus and East Lansing. Seriously, fake an injury.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Some other interesting upsets.

Washington State does their best to make their neighbors at Idaho feel a whole lot better- by getting beat by FCS Portland State 24-17

South Dakota State beat Kansas (again)

the anti-upset- somehow Indiana managed to beat Southern Illinois.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

huh go figure. BYU 33, Nebraska 28.

On a Hail Mary to end the game.

First time Nebraska has lost on opening day for 29 years. First loss for a first time coach since I think the 50's at Lincoln.
