Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises
Cross post from GPL
So let's take a look at just Alabama being over TCU in the playoffs. Specifically their schedules.
TCU's wins, based on the Massey Ratings (not the composite) include:
42, 44, 46, 51, 59, 69, 145, and 218
Alabama's wins include:
21, 22, 23, 31, 38, 119, and 168
Loss:
15
So Alabama has wins against five teams that were better than TCU's best win. All but one of these were double-digit wins.
Looking at the remaining schedule:
Alabama has:
6, 20, 45, and 103 plus the SEC championship game.
TCU has:
4, 11, 13, and 130.
So TCU has a chance to *ahem* leapfrog Alabama should they rack up wins against those top three teams. If both win out they would look like this:
Alabama:
Wins: 6, 20, 21, 22, 23, 31, 38, 45, 103, 119, 168
Losses: 15
TCU:
Wins: 4, 11, 13, 42, 44, 46, 51, 59, 69, 130, 145, 218
Losses: None
While Alabama would still have a long list of quality wins, TCU has also compiled a better top three wins and a comparable top nine wins.
So yes, despite the ratings showing Alabama over TCU now, they could easily jump Alabama if they both win out.
