Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Washington state clearly just forced and recovered fumble yet on replay they don't call it that way.

Nah, they had the call right. McCaffrey was out of bounds and touching the ball before the Wazzou player recovered it. As such, the ball itself was out of bounds and dead without a Wazzou recovery. Weird sequence of events, but the right call.

vegas already paid off the U. can't have 2 winners :(

That's actually a good point.

And I didn't think any of the laterals were close to going forward. The blocks in the back were fairly obvious on replay. The knee...it was down, but VERY VERY close, and IMO takes a back seat to the blocks in obviousness.

That's pre-Vegas, for the most part. Imagine paying out millions of dollars AGAIN because of a changed result...
As far as the NCAA knows, Vegas does not exist.

Besides, I'm sure all the previous winners would be happy to send their money back in if the bookies would just ask nicely. :D

JT Barrett's punishment will include losing his scholarship... for the summer semester. You know, when he wouldn't have to take classes anyway.

Pretty hefty punishment there, Urban.

Really? Alabama and notre dame at 4 and 5 doesn't make much sense to me.

For me, it's less the rankings, more how they are so inconsistent in explaining why teams are where. I'm not crying about Iowa being #9. Hell, I'm thrilled they're there.

If Jeff Long is going to claim beating FBS teams with records over .500, SOS, etc. is an important committee metric, then putting Iowa, or any other team with Iowa's current resume, below them is crazy. TCU and Baylor both have one win over an FBS team with a >.500 record; Texas Tech. Iowa has three, two of which are on the road. (Pitt, @Wis, @NW) Mr. Long flat out said that although Iowa has three of the said wins, Baylor and TCU's explosive offenses also were considered, leading to a higher rating. So, even though Iowa has what the committee views as more quality wins, against a tougher SOS THUS FAR, because TCU and Baylor have more explosive offenses, they are ranked ahead of Iowa.

Is Iowa penalized for playing the "old man" style of football, just like the CFP's favorite Alabama? So Iowa's defense, which is nationally ranked 5th in Rush Defense, 6th in Scoring Defense, 7th in Total Defense, 8th in Red Zone Defense, and 10th in Time of Possession, with a stronger SOS SO FAR, along with more quality wins isn't acknowledged?

Does this he set a precedent that your style and how you play is more important than quality wins?

Like I said, I don't know where Iowa should be and I'm just happy that Iowa is undefeated and being talked about nationally again, no matter what it is. I've got no issues with being #9 right now. How everything is explained and the inconsistency is almost embarrassing, though. I'm confident that if Iowa somehow find itself at 12-0 headed to Indianapolis, they'll be playing for a Big Ten title and a Playoff birth.

One of many absurd media comments surrounding that poll.. " I wouldn't have a problem with Alabama #1 right now because they win the National Championship of recruiting every year." -David Pollock. LOL.

Well, the reason they do these rankings is to get people talking and hyped, I guess it's working well.

Except when the human rankings start to match the composite computer rankings, it removes a lot of doubt.
