There is absolutely no emoticon in the world that can depict how far my jaw just dropped with that comment.

Only in hickville U.S.A

Hey, at least they were environmentally conscious, as they used a 2010 Prius as the getaway car!

Oh, hey, how'd they get a brand new car? No chance of a under-the-table gift there, eh?

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

If you lived down there, you would understand this...

I was talking with a producer for a local sports radio station down in Knoxville, and the subject of East TN obsessing over UT came up... Apparently one of the radio hosts had a major problem with the fans altering his show... When the host wanted to talk about a particular national sporting event, about 1/2 the callers kept diverging from the national topic and wanted to talk about UT basketball, football recruiting, and Lane Kiffin... The host would try and steer the callers away from UT towards the National Event, but every time, UT would come right back up a few callers later...

Want to know the event that was playing 2nd fiddle to UT Sports? Superbowl 43....

It's a whole different culture down there when it comes to college sports...

If Charles Woodson came up to me in the middle of the 97 season and pulled a gun on me, I wouldn't be caught died saying out loud that I hope he wouldn't have to miss any game time. I might think it. I might regret that the season went down the tubes after they hauled his behind to jail. But I think I understand the basic standards of life enough to realize that if you rob somebody you belong in jail no matter who you play for. Most importantly I understand how stupid it makes me to sound to say otherwise.

Besides who cares about the Super Bowl any way.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Your opinion doesn't count, you're knowledgeable and objective.:p ;)

Maybe I'm too pessimistic about the typical football fan. But for about 75% of the people in the stands, it boils down to two possibilities:

We won? We rule!

We lost? Let me go hide.

In the we rule mode, the $$ flow.

I'm sure there are some people like this. But I believe that a lot of the marginal bowls don't have that great of attendance (unless they luck into a great traveling team), so I think if people were generally stoked about playing in the Humpty Dumpty Bowl, you'd see those bowls selling out more regularly.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Of course, the other big thing holding back a playoff is that it's *very* likely that the playoff would fall into the hands of the NCAA itself rather then the BCS conferences. If it were to pop into existence tomorrow, the cash would be split among all 11 conferences, possibly Notre Dame as well for 12, and by NCAA by-law (Alton would know this for sure) it could be a minimum of a 24 team playoff.

Exactly. Nobody doubts it would make a lot of money - it would.

It would just make a lot of money for a different set of people.

Right, there's a lot of bowls out there that will have a lot of empty seats in their stadiums. Not a whole lot of fans would really want to go out to some of them.

Also, in other Bowl news, UNO has been selected to play in the Kanza Bowl in Topeka, Kansas, on December 5th. They'll play West Texas A&M

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Details are still forthcoming, but it sure looks like three Tennessee players tried to hold up a store near campus using a pellet gun. Brilliant.
I DIDN'T EVEN LOAAAAAAAAD IIIIIIIIITTTTTTT

That's actually kind of hard to do, I'd figure being the SEC they'd go for something easier like mugging an old lady.

Not when the old lady practically gives them the purse and the digits for her Granddaughter as well. ;)

QFT - I grew up 90 miles east of Knoxville (next town over from where Steve Spurrier's from). My favorite was at Friday night HS games when BOTH bands played Rocky Top incessantly. Just cain't never have too much Rocky Top! :D

Wow, you're a true mountain man, or as much of a mountain man as you can be on the east coast.

I'll never lump Tennessee in with the rest of their conference brethren. Its a (for the most part) classy program, with classy fans, who actually has a history of traveling and playing in big time OOC games.

Is there some other Tennessee besides the one I grew up near???? ;)

Always had good experiences with UT fans in victory and defeat. Quite classy after the 2006 and 2007 games against Cal. Admittedly I wasn't dealing with rabid hillbillies 4 hours into some moonshine.

And you guys have consistently scheduled tough games against big name teams and actually travel out to their home stadiums.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Because when I think of vacation from winter weather, I think of Topeka!

The location is better than Boise, but right now, I'd be so geeked if my team went to the Humanitarian Bowl, it's not even funny.

In other words, pgb is very, very much correct. Dillusion is a funny thing.

Let's go Motor City Bowl.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Let's go Motor City Bowl.

Other team. Idaho is in the drivers seat for the Humanitarian bowl. Even if the loose their last two games, as long as BSU can get a bowl outside of the ones contracted for the WAC, all speculation has 4th place Idaho going to Boise.

2nd place (likely) Nevada and 3rd place Fresno would go to Hawaii or New Mexico. Idaho would WAY out draw both in Boise- and it appears that the 3 WAC bowls do not bid based on placings. IF BSU somehow gets beat enough to not get an independant (better paying) bowl, they have the Humanitarian locked up by default.

So, if all goes to plan, I'll be spending a few days in Boise for New Years Day and a few days prior.

Oh, and Detroit > Boise.

Anybody else see that Tennessee redneck who got held up at gunpoint by three Tennessee football players go on the news and say that all three should be allowed to play this weekend?
