Already insane, UAA making it worse
Oh it gets worse, way worse.I thought you were doing a bit with the CC line, but it turns out UAA was a CC until '71. And there wasn't even a college in Anchorage until 1954. I mean, it was just out of the territory days, but you'd think by 1960 when Anchorage was already triple the size of Fairbanks it wouldn't take another ten years to get a four year school there.
The original Anchorage Community College didn’t have a campus, they did night classes at the High School. The UAA campus wasn’t built until 1970 and UAA didn’t have on campus housing until 1986 and really didn’t have dorms until the mid-90’s.
The best one lately is that the College of Education lost its accreditation and now UAA can’t train teachers. Yes the University in the largest city, in the largest school district, with the second largest school district in its area, cannot train teachers. They have to go to UAF. And it was intentional by the UA, they knew UAA would be at risk but still went through the process so they could learn what needed to be fixed at UAF.
And yes a Chancellor at UAA was forced out because she questioned funding priorities in the UA system. One of the things she was fighting for was a new athletic building including an ice arena, naturally it was built after she left without an ice arena.
