Re: College Football 19-20: Where We Kinda Want Clemson As Champion.

Of all the football games this weekend, North Dakota St-James Madison in Texas is not the one I expected to have snow on the field.

Ok, I don't expect it in the 49ers game either.

North Texas gets a lot of snow, or used to before we pegged the thermostat.

Wow, great game. NDSU wins 28-20 with an interception on the goal line with two seconds left. Becomes the first 16-0 team since 1894.

That makes it 8 of 9 for the Bison, 128-8 during that span. Where does this rank in the all-time college dynasties?

UCLA basketball had 10 in 12 from 1963-1975 with a record of 335-22.
Iowa wrestling had 20 in 26 from 1975-2000.
Oklahoma football had a 107-8 record and three titles from 1948-1958 (seems like they should have more here).
In the age of parity, Alabama's run with Saban is certainly in contention.

There are the women's dynasties: UNC soccer, Tennessee and UConn basketball, Minnesota hockey.

My favorite dynasty stat is Kalamazoo College won the MIAA conference tennis championship every year from 1933-2012. That streak is sort of still ongoing, as they still have never finished below first, but due to a financial aid scandal they had to vacate 2013-2016.

Fun fact: it costs more to go to Kalamazoo than Harvard.

I think Carson Wentz' class won more NTs (4) than they lost games (3). Icehawk would know; he's CW's uncle.

Good lord, this stat:

North Dakota State's QB Trey Lance finishes the season with almost 2,800 passing yards, 1100 rushing yards, 42 total touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

He's a freshman.

Time for the ncaa to move them up. Absurd.

Where would they go? If joined the MAC it would literally double the area of the conference. The MW would also have a huge travel budget. Plus they’re capped at about 15k or whatever the Fargo Dome has. Probably the only chance they move up is it the MVFC or Big Sky decides to move up as a conference.

Fargodome seats 19k.

They could go independent.

A better question is why go? The costs of moving up is pretty significant- between the higher number of players, the fan requirement, and the odds of not really hitting it big. It's not as if they are assured to make the nonP5 spot every year.

There's no chance the Big Sky moves- some of their teams make money in DI-AA when they look at former member BSU who is bleeding money. It's not that common that a team can make the jump, keep the high standard, and somehow make a bunch of money.

And looking at Idaho and NMSU, the MW does not want more teams. Especially one so far away. The MAC has already accepted former D1AA NIU, and their members don't have deep pockets to add a distance team.

I've had a glance at Idaho State's numbers, and would harbor a guess that NDSU makes more money now than they would in DI.

Don't go- it's a false economy.

Maybe. However, they are dominating at the D2 level to a point never seen before. Barring a home upset a few years ago, and they would have 9 straight championships. At some point, you would think they would want to challenge themselves.

You're not allowed to go up as an independent. Unless you're Liberty, but that's because everyone hates Liberty and won't accept them.

You could move up and hope to become App St, but like half their conference is teams who moved up in the last ten years. They would not find themselves in the same pool of peers in the MAC or MW.

At the end of the day it doesn't make sense. They pay for 22 fewer scholarships, have geographic rivals, and rather than being just another G5 team, get to be THE program in FCS.

It may not make sense, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see them try. I know that some people within that program are pushing for a bigger stadium (read: ~30k) when they replace the Fargodome. Of course, I also know people within that program that think that they have a chance to get into the Big 12 at some point in time...:p:D:D

At the end of the day, all the teams that have ever dominated at the D2 level have moved up to D1 at some point.
