College Basketball '25-'26

Bruce Pearl has stepped down as the men's basketball coach at Auburn and will move into an ambassador's role in the athletic department as special assistant to the athletics director, the school announced Monday.
Steven Pearl, Pearl's son and the Tigers' associate head coach, received a five-year contract as the program's new head coach.

Purdue ranked #1 in the AP preseason men's basketball poll fo the first time.

To the surprise of not too many people UConn is #1 in the AP preseason basketball poll.

Laughing a bit at the outrage of people upset that the Maui Invitational and Battle 4 Atlantis are being sacrificed for new tournaments in Las Vegas as if Maui and B4A didn’t sacrifice the Preseason NIT and the Great Alaska Shootout for their own gain.

Isn't Maui one of the OG tournaments? That one’s always been a draw.

Atlantis definitely took from the others though. ESPN creating their own tournaments didn’t help, but Atlantis was the first one I remember coming in and immediately throwing money around to get top teams.

The Players Era one is bad because the format makes no sense. 18 teams, 2 game “prelim”, and then a laundry list of tiebreakers to decide the final game which means 2-0 Iowa State doesn’t even get to play for third place.

Maui is one of the OGs but it was a prototype for these modern day tournaments. Maui was “hosted” by Chaminade, which is in Honolulu and not Maui, but they had sold off the rights to the tournament to a marketing firm, KemperSports, back in the late 80’s. Maui has been a “made for TV” event since its inception and was definitely one of the lobbyists of loosening the rules on preseason tournaments to cut out competition like the GAS and make more money. They created the beast thinking they’d be the one controlling and now they’re be swallowed by it.

If you want an idea of a) How far the Maui Invitational has fallen and b) how much the Maui Invitational is willing to whore themselves to ESPN take no further look than today's Championship Game with a 9:30 AM local tip-off time.
