Colgate and Starr's last season

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Powerplay won the game for Q-Pac, 3 for 7

Ugh. Going back to the Harvard game on Jan. 22, we have taken 22 penalties and allowed NINE power play goals. Players are making the skate of shame a little a little over 40% of the time in these past 6 games. It's killing us!

Meanwhile, while just 1 point separates 4th through 8th place in the league standings, there's a 6-point gap between 8th and 9th. Sadly, the game against Union on Feb. 27 will probably be the last ever home game at Starr (at least for the men's team).

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

It's hard to win games when there are 5x3 match ups. Saw only the first two periods, but thought the energy was there. One of the few games we where we have been out face-offed. On the bright side, Ken Citron has a heavy shot; his slapper was a laser - good news for next season and beyond. Shabby and Rainman got it: penalties and the PK have killed us. What are we doing differently from the first half of the season?

Thought the video was pretty good last night. BTW, congrats to the #10 women's team who took down #4 Q-Pac and ended their winning streak.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Appreciate the perspective, shabby. Historic win and season for the women's team, congrats to them and much success in the playoffs. They're actually getting some crowds in the stands! Looks like there is a reason this year to cheer at Starr after all.

From 1959 to Terry Slater to Title IX, from Fridgen to Poapst to McDonald to Smith and dozens more, from ECAC tournament appearances year after year, look how far we've come.

And it's just the beginning.
Class of '65 Arena awaits!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Sorry Steve... 'Gate played well but as you said, special teams were the difference.

we only gave up one goal on the two man down deficits which I thought was tremendous
It was actually a 5-on-4 goal. I thought we could put away the game during both of those 5-on-3's but we got too cute trying to find the high-light reel shot.

it was a much closer game than the final score score indicated
It was but I think when we went up 4-2 it was over for you guys; the 5th goal was icing on the cake. I noticed there wasn't much celebration when 'Gate got their 3rd... almost as if they thought it was too little too late.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Hi Mark, yes it was technically a five on four goal but it was at the very end of a five on three. The first of the two penalties had expired for just three seconds and the Colgate player out of the penalty box had barely got back into Colgate's defensive zone just as Q-Pac scored. Ok, so NO five on three goals, even better I guess. During the PP Anas sets up right where Ovechkin does, top of the circle. They got the puck to him for so many one timers I felt sorry for Finn, I bet he had four or five attempts in a minute. I agree that at 4-2 it was basically over. Should be a great post season for you guys, I won't get to see you in Placid this year though.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Thank you very much Dutch, I didn't know how to do it. Great article !

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

ECAC Hockey announced Wednesday that Yale senior defenseman Rob O’Gara has been assessed a one-game suspension as the result of his actions in the Yale-Harvard game from Feb. 6.

The league action was taken after review of an incident that occurred in the third period in the Bulldogs-Crimson contest.

Based upon the league’s action, O’Gara is not eligible to compete in Yale’s next game on Feb. 13 when the Bulldogs face Cornell.

ISN'T YALE'S NEXT GAME AGAINST US ON THE 12TH????WHY ISN'T HE SUSPENDED FOR OUR GAME????

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Nevermind...I think I found the answer...he received a 5 min major + game misconduct on Saturday, thus I assume he was already kicked out of the next game (Colgate) and then the ECAC gave him another game disqual for the contact to the head penalty

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

O'Gara received a game disqualification on Saturday, not a misconduct. There is a significant difference between the two. A game misconduct means you're ejected from that game. A game disqualification means you're ejected from that game AND automatically suspended from your team's next scheduled game. So he'll sit out Friday's game against us.

However, the league then issued its own 1-game suspension to O'Gara, which means he'll also miss Yale's game at Cornell on Saturday. The article is worded incorrectly. Remember last year when Darcy Murphy couldn't play against BU? This is a similar incident.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

O'Gara is six four and probably their best defensemen, a break for us. Yale also had seven players out last weekend per their thread.

Lyon is one of the top three goalies in college hockey, he stole the victory against Harvard last weekend with nineteen saves in the third period in a one goal win. They are another top ten team.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

If no one returns to the lineup, it will be two shorthanded teams facing each other. Three lines each, I would say it gives us "some" added hope. Also, we can go allout and not save any gas for Saturday night because we don't play.

Call me crazy, I think we have a good shot tonight. Possible bad weather for the ride home though. Only three more games at Starr.

Missing tonight's tilt Shabby, let's get an upset. See you in a couple of weeks for Starr's grand finale!

What ever happened about moving a webcam inside? As much as I don't mind seeing the outside, it's getting pretty tired. :(

I just got a note about this the other day... there's a camera in place but having tech problems getting it to work. IT is aware & hopefully will be up & running soon!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Here's today's thought to ponder:

We have six winning seasons in the last sixteen.
