Colgate and Starr's last season

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Finn comes in a distant fourth in the ECAC after Garteig, Lyon and Hayton IMO and is not a national Top-10 just yet. Like shabby's tag says, it all starts with goaltending though I would say he is very good and not necessarily great. Finn may only be as good as our defense, and we have had some good seasons under his play, but we are elusive when it is all on the line at LP and against many ranked foes. We also lost some, tied, or squeaked by a few last season that should have been in the W column. I hope this is Finn's season to shine. He only gets better.

Hoping for a breakout year for the Spinks. The hype surrounding them has faded due to past illnesses, etc...expecting the dynamic duo to make up for some lost offense and put some fear into the opposition. Unlike football, feeling very optimistic about the first weekend of play, partly b/c we play a team predicted to finish 8th in their conference. Time to get the kinks out; the stats chart could be very telling after this weekend. Last year's Lowe's Senior Class Award winner Goulakos had us all with heavy hearts and showed us what really matters, win or lose, new arena or not. Praying for a healthy season with much success.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Great post Bill, I wholeheartedly agree we must have more production from the Spinks. Last year we started the season with Tylor out until when, December ? Then Borkowski , then Murphy's suspension, we were without three of our top six forwards.

To the best of my knowledge we're starting healthy this year, we should score, there's concern to me that we may play high scoring games until our frosh defensemen mature a little. Let's get two convincing wins this weekend.

Football game was a nailbiter last night.

Just going to throw this out there....the last three years, one of the two Spink twins has led the team in points. Tylor as a freshmen and then Tyson the last two years. After coming back from injury last year, Tylor averaged nearly a point per game and he was among the top 100 nationally in face-off win %. When healthy, the twins were nearly 1.0 PPG players as freshmen and sophomores. Having both healthy and on the ice at the same time however will most certainly buoy their production as they have fantastic chemistry which was missed when Tylor was hurt.

Hey all, great to see the new thread and familiar names. Agree with Rainman about the Sox (though the push to impress Dombrowski over the last several weeks gives us at least some hope for 2016). For now, it's onto hockey. Let's go 'gate!

No streaming tonight? Men's Hockey tweeted a link to Atlantic Hockey's streaming service but no game for tonight posted.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Happy with Racine, Freeman and Peterson scoring, someone other than our talented senior class. This is exactly what we need, wonder how Citron and Brooks looked ??

BTW...Check out the national stats page, we've never led all categories before. :)

So happy with the win and the play of the underclassmen!!!! Keep it up tonight, 'Gate!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

WOW. We score 4 goals in under 4 minutes to mount a MASSIVE comeback all to let them score again with a 1:17 left. Our defense is going to really hurt us more than we realized. Johnston's departure will really hurt this year. Also, Northeastern put up a 10 spot in an exhibition game by the way if you did't see that. Not sure why Hamilton was left in until 4 goals were let in but it didn't seem to matter as Finn couldn't do any better. That would have been a great comeback even if it were to be a tie but instead we have to be very worried going forward with our D and goaltending, I'm hoping this was just a fluke game.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Just saw this I'm shocked. As I said, we may be in for some high scoring games with our frosh defensemen but I didn't mean 9-7 wowww !!!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Always great to start the season 1-0, but WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED yesterday afternoon? 7 goals is more than enough to win a hockey game. I wonder if Ryan Johnston's sudden departure had an effect on yesterday's outcome?

No doubt, Rainman. Help me out here, is not a touchdown enough to win most hockey games??

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

What the what?? We let in nine goals -- how on earth does that happen???

We scored a touchdown AND an extra point, and still lost!

I had forgotten about that! Better to lose a game 9-7 in October than in the NCAA Tournament. That Yale team was very heavy on offense but had questionable defense, and did not have a #1 goaltender that year. On the other hand, that year's BC team went on to win the National Championship.

After looking at yesterday's box score, it's obvious that (A) this team is going to score goals, and (B) they're never going to quit. But is Zac Hamilton a reliable backup? And can we play good team defense, just like we did in the past 2 seasons? We know that at least 2 freshmen defensemen will be in the lineup every night, so we're not going to be perfect.
