Colgate 24-25

Hopefully not. The officiating was really bad in the Clarkson game. The Clarkson announcer even seemed confused by the game misconduct for Kalty. It looked like she was trying to free her stick to hit the loose puck and the player from Clarkson was down on the ice holding her stick. I think there was a lot of frustration by the time Brick took hers in the third. Clarkson was pretty much getting away with everything and we were not and it was a super physical game. The team definitely were fired up though after the first game misconduct and played a lot better after I thought.

Wow ... one can only wonder what you were looking at. You can go back and watch it on ESPN+. By freeing her stick, do you mean spearing the Clarkson defender between the legs (while down on the ice) when the puck wasn't there (you can see the goalie pick up the puck after the play)? And where do you ever see her stick being held??? That whole deal was proceeded by a cross check to the back of the head of the same Clarkson defender. All easily viewable on ESPN+. The review was quick as it was clear and obvious. Hopefully the league is reviewing for further disciplinary action. Same 'ol Salty Kalty.

I watched the replay a few times. I don't know it looks like from that angle she's digging for the puck, but just before they were pushing and shoving and the Clarkson player's stick got up in Kalty's face as she went down. I don't think it's really clear from the only angle they showed on ESPN where she was hitting, but I assume the officials had other views and they called it what they called it. In real time, it looked like the player was on her stick, but in the slow down you are right and she's not holding down the stick at that point. Brick clearly hit the head on that penalty. Brick rarely takes penalties so that one was surprising. It was a very physical game as expected.

I just watched the penalty, many times. In the middle of the scrum the puck was either under the goalie or the Clarkson player. Goalie was on her stomach and the Clarkson player was in a sitting position almost on the goalie. Kalty and another player were battling to get to the puck and Kalty dug with her stick in under the player(s) to try to free the puck. Looked like she might have got the Clarkson player in the groin area(the puck was there too) and hurt the player.
If you're a Clarkson fan Kalty kinda speared the player, if you're a Colgate fan she was just trying to get to the puck. In fairness you can't see where Kalty's stick went, but it hardly looked like a penalty to me, as the puck was under her.
Even the Clarkson announcer said several times he didn't think a penalty was going to be called. Especially a major penalty.

Has anyone else noticed the USCHO WOMEN'S ECAC standings points differ for several teams from the CollegeHockeyNews and ECAC sites?

Yes - I believe that the point calculations on the CHN and ECAC sites are currently correct and the USCHO site currently has several mistakes.

I don't get how the hit on Kalty in 2nd wasn't a game misconduct. Watched it on the replay and it was a really hard hit right to the head. Much less no penalty at all.

We played pretty awful today, impressive that we only lost by one.

Thought Kalty had a game dq? Is any of this on the coach? Slow starts, being outshot, and playing from behind feels like a trend over the last few seasons.

Brick and Kalty both played. Sambrano is also back so we had 5 real defense. I think the team has always started slow. I'm not sure what was going on yesterday, especially first period. Cornell just had them beat all over the ice. If they had played the entire 60 like the played the 3rd period, I think the game may have gone better for them. That being said, I think they are doing well this season given the graduations they had, a new head coach, two new assistant coaches, and losing a strong defender in a late transfer over the summer. Murphy looked fantastic last night and the two goals were on the rest of the team and not her.

As a side note, watching the Sirens games that Fargo coaches now, they also seem to start slow and have to battle back a lot too. Osborne got her first start last week and Serdachny scored the first goal on her in that game.

We played well today against a very good Cornell team. A 180 from yesterday's first period. Murphy remains lights out and is giving us a chance every game. I also can't believe how hard Kalty is playing, she's been a beast and a great Captain! I expect the polls will remain the same on Monday...

Looking forward to a great weekend of hockey. Hopefully they bring last week's Saturday team and not Friday's. Q is always fast and one of my fave match ups to watch every year.

Another game where Colgate was greatly outshot, but somehow they managed to outscore their opponents with quality goals. Murphy was stellar in goal, despite a miscue that led to a Quinnipiac score.

Scoring came from three different lines tonight. The Raiders have eight forwards with seven or more goals on the season.

Wth Brown's comeback overtime win against host St. Lawrence, the Raiders and Big Red now share first place in the league – just a half point ahead of St. Lawrence.

Was surprised to see both St. Lawrence and Clarkson losing games at home.

Hoping 'Gate avenges their overtime loss to Princeton earlier in the season with a solid win tomorrow.

Have never appreciated when a goalie plays the puck behind the goal, men or women. Unless it's a breakaway, it is a recipe best left uneaten! Qpac has got to be scratching its head over that loss. They are a well-balanced team with both great defense and offense, but not sure their goalie had her best game. Q goalies are very stingy, like Cornell and Clarkson's. Murphy redeemed herself for sure. Nice to see former Colgate player Tessa Holk have a good game and give some post-game hugs, but sorry to have to see her or anyone leave the team. For possibly having the youngest team in the nation with transfers, graduations, not to mention coaching changes, Colgate is holding its own! Where do we stand on recruits for next season? This seemed like a down year.
IMO Colgate/ESPN has the worst-quality video broadcasts in all of hockey. Just don't get it.

Excellent weekend of hockey, Murphy great and Kalty and EB totally back in form. Kalty now just 17 points behind Danielle's all time points lead of 239. It will be fun to see if she can catch her. Next year we appear th have an excellent class coming in with a number of U-18 Canadian team and one US team members on it. Most importantly there are 2 Defense studs that we desperately need. It's been a while since we've seen Gwen E so I'm postulating her injury was a fairly severe concussion. I hope it's not the case but given her impressive academic plans for the coming years risking further injury this year may not be in the cards. That said, Google "Rink women's college commitments" for a good view of most of our recruits along with everyone else's. Dorothy Colletti a big Canadian forward is not listed yet but she's coming too. We do appear to have lost a skater to BC, Maxim Tremblay from Stanstead College Que where A Aubin is from. Her name is still on the list but her instagram suggests it's now BC. A good sized class is coming in...

The USCHO staff have fixed the errors in the ECAC Women's point totals. They now appear to be correct. (They responded quickly after I emailed them.)

Colgate avoided the worst tonight against Harvard. I can't wait for Coach Decosse to give Alexia Aubin a real try, as she served up a masterful pass to Malachino late in the game and scored a beauty in the 1st period.

I think he knows exactly how good she is. She's 2nd line power play which as a first year is a big deal and late in close games recently he's been moving her up. There's a lot of great more seasoned talent above her even if some of them are having only so-so seasons. She is a gamer.
