Colgate 2024-25 Harder Hockey

I would start both Andrew Takacs and Nick Haas this weekend. Probably Haas on Friday against RPI and Takacs on Saturday versus Union. But I could be talked into the other way around. Of course, there is a good reason or two why I am not a coach.

Iowa, i have no issue starting the two goalies, however, given that RPI is the easier test, put tackas in that game to solidify the 2 points necessary. Once you have the bye then do what you want. I’d hate to have our #2 in against RPI and regret it when we play the 1 and done game

Red, I have no problems with that strategy. Someone said Cornell needs to sweep the same two opponents and then have ‘Gate beat Union to secure its bye. Any truth to that?

So, Cornell is in an odd position.

They would need both union and colgate not to get 2 points and have to get at least 5points…this situation is impossible so there will be only one spot for the colgate/union loser, Dartmouth and cornell.

So for Cornell, what they would need is for get at least 5 of 6 points (or 6), and not be tied with Dartmouth. Cornell’s tie breaker with union is up in the air but assuming Cornell gets what it needs to get up to a bye position the tie breaker with union might come down to points against top four.

Red...since Gate and Union play each other, one of them Has to get at least two points.
Colgate owns the tiebreakers against both Cornell and Dartmouth. First tiebreaker is total points against the other team, hence Gate four points to Cornell's two, and Gate four points over Dartmouth's two points. That's a start, too many other scenarios to figure out. The way I see it, if we get at least two points from RPI we can't be caught by Cornell or Dartmouth for the bye.

Even if all that happens, it's not a guarantee Cornell gets a bye. If Dartmouth wins both of their games this weekend in regulation they finish ahead of Cornell since they have a head-to-head tiebreaker.

Thanks, all.

First and foremost, I want to see us earn the bye.

Second, I want us to finish third (rather than fourth). Any help that we can get in the seeding for the home second round will help us towards our goal of going to Lake Placid again.

Finally, I will be keeping up on both games from here in Paso Robles, Calif. Go ‘Gate!

It is important for the Raiders to win on Friday. If Colgate (and also true for Union) loses on Friday, they couldl be playing for a bye in their early start (4 pm) game Saturday. Not a position I'd want the team to be in.

Just get at least two points tonight, and all is good. As stated above, I don't want to be playing Union for the bye Saturday...too nerve wracking ! Go Raiders !

I was able to get a ticket to tomorrow's game at Union, the last regular season game at Messa Rink. It seems fitting that we are Union's last opponent in their outgoing barn, since they were the visitors in the last Starr Rink game.

It'll be more enjoyable (and less stressful) if we win tonight at RPI.

Whew!! With their overtime win over RPI the 'Gate gain a bye next week, as they hold the tiebreaker against Dartmouth, who won tonight against Brown. With Union beating Cornell, Dartmouth has assured itself fifth seeding, Cornell the sixth (Dartmouth holds the tiebreaker with the Big Red).

which means if we beat union tomorrow (if playoff seeds hold in the one game play-in games) we would face Cornell. If we lose it is Dartmouth

With Clarkson beating Q in overtime, the Union-Colgate game tomorrow will definitely be for third / fourth place. Since Union beat Colgate in a shootout, I believe the winner of tomorrow's game (if the win is in regulation or overtime) gets third. I don't know what the next tie breaker is if Colgate wins in a shootout.

We certainly didn't make it easy on ourselves, but we secured the 1st round bye tonight. Also of note, Daniel Panetta returned to the lineup tonight. We're getting back players that missed time due to injury at the right time, and the bye only helps us here.

Very good on tonight’s OT win.

I didn’t get a chance to watch any of it, so, in 25 words or less, what were the highlights and the lowlights?

Do we now have any players out injured? Thanks!

Great start and taking control, couldn't finish the win and missed 2 breakaway's in the 3rd.

Next tiebreaker is wins, excluding shootout wins. Union and Colgate both have 12 wins. So I think it would come down to our records vs QPac and Clarkson. We win that tiebreaker as Union has no point against those 2 teams.

Highlights: continuing to score at least 3 goals/game, and finding a way to win (and secure the bye).

Lowlights: coughing up leads of 2-0 and 3-1, taking 3 penalties in rapid succession in the 2nd period almost immediately after scoring our 3rd goal, taking a penalty with 27 seconds left in regulation.

Regarding players injured: Nic Belpedio was the only injured scratch last night. Daniel Panetta finally returned to the lineup.

First is head to head, next is total wins (including OT), then record vs. top 4. The only way Colgate and Union tie in points is if 'Gate gets 2 points today (which means Union gets 1 point).

If 'Gate were to win in OT, we would have 13 total league wins and Union would have 12 - we get the tiebreaker.

If 'Gate were to win in a shootout, both teams would have 12 league wins. So record vs. top 4 becomes the tiebreaker, which would be each team's records against Quinnipiac and Clarkson. Union went 0-4 against those two teams, while we notched 1 win each against the Bobcats and Golden Knights.
