Colgate 2024-25 Harder Hockey

I mean the lack of a call for too many men on the ice is pure ECAC incompetence at its best. Either the refs ignored it and said well i am not going to call a penalty in OT or just pure incompetence. I know Iowa hates talking about refs but the player came onto the ice, put himself in a positive position as it relates to the puck, the other team mate hits the puck while the new player moves into position and is the first to play the puck.....i am sorry but if you refuse to call that you should not be a referee, linesman, or anything in DI sports. I'd love to hear and see punishment for those refs but that will never occur.

To be honest the big number is looking at 5th place, and focus on those points. Right now we are 5 points up on 5th, so the hope is by the end of senior weekend we are 6-7 points up (preferably 7) but also looking at this type of standings any team with 37 points has always made it to the top 4, so if history holds 3 more points

We cannot finish any lower than a tie for 8th

Classic good news/bad news...at 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 I would've taken ONE POINT...fine...but one period of decent hockey is not enough and our goaltending did not resemble the solid effort we've seen since the beginning of 2025...refs: if you can't make "the tough call" don't bother showing up...in any event, Brown is better than they showed last night and will be a tough out...hopefully it won't be a long trip back to Hamilton...

Takacs had his worst game since November, and we only played one period. Yale was very lucky on two flukey goals and we were missing great chances especially a breakaway. Every once in awhile these games happen, just win tonight and forget about it. I'm not happy with Chorske, he can score but his backchecking is weak. He's 6-7 and you could send him in the corner with a dozen eggs and he'd come out with none broken.

Interesting point Shabby...frankly I've seen some of the same tendencies...he sees the game very well ("it's in the genes") but his line mates have been good defensively...would be great to get our two boys in the top six back soon...

re: the so-called 5-minute major on Spinale...why don't we just change the rules re: Men's DI Ice Hockey to mimic DI Women's Hockey...that "review" was a pathetic joke and the rule that takes away the ability to call a 2-minute penalty on the transgressor is even more ridiculous...Takacs better step it up folks - as well as our coverage in the defensive zone - or we'll leaving Providence with zero points...

Chorske lazy and no backcheck at all Brown scores from just inside the blueline, I'm disgusted !!

11 goals allowed over the weekend...wake up boys...you're not that good that you can mail in a period or two during a game...defensemen getting stripped from the puck, running around in one's defensive end with no coverage...one of the worst road trips in a long, long time...FYI Spinale got his with "butt ending", although it took over five minutes to "find" the transgression...we need our injured forwards back, and soon...

Of the top six teams, Quinnipiac, Clarkson and Cornell took care of business earning 6 points this weekend. Union split for 3 points, while Dartmouth and Colgate had two losses (one in overtime) for only one point each. Despite the poor showing this weekend, 'Gate controls its own fate, facing second place Clarkson and third place (tied) Union on the next two Saturdays. However they have to make sure to not overlook St. Lawrence and RPI.

Knowing Harder, I'm encouraged that he'll have his players ready this weekend.

Brown has always given us nightmares. But what a missed opportunity last night. We should have skated them out of Meehan Arena. Instead we leave Providence with 1 point and a lost weekend. Better buck up. Clarkson is breathing down our necks and St. Lawrence is not a given. Time to pay attention to back checking and see what's happening in the corners.

I watched last night's game and I don't know what exactly caused Ryan Spinale to get assessed a 5 minute major and game misconduct. It looked like he simply collided with a Brown player. I've seen more blatant tripping and boarding calls that result in just a routine 2 minute minor. While we were able to kill the major penalty we had to play the remainder of the game with 1 fewer skater and it messed up our planned line combinations.

That said, if this weekend's games were clunkers we needed to get out of our system, I'm fine with that. Last year we were flying high going into the playoffs, only to get swept at home to a St. Lawrence team that had I think 1 total road win.

Lastly, it should be mentioned that Nic Belpedio got hurt late in the 3rd period last night. The video showed him "blowing a tire" but couldn't immediately get back up, grabbing his knee. I believe a teammate helped him up and he was able to skate back to the bench on his own, but we've been hit with the injury bug lately. Even though we finally got Simon Labelle back, we were still missing Daniel Panetta and Alex DiPaolo over the weekend.

It just makes getting the bye even more important. Upcoming head-to-head matchups with both Clarkson and Union loom huge now.

I very rarely mention names in the wake of a defeat, but...both Labelle and Nagel were MINUS 5 last night...we need to get healthy and get some consistency in our lines...I do think changing lines too often can result in missed assignments, etc....

We go as far as Takacs takes us ! When he's on we were 9-2-1. When he plays like he played in Oct and Nov we'll be lucky to win ! He needs to get back to where he was or we won't even get the bye !

I watched both games on my phone this weekend from Palm Springs, Calif… Friday from a casino and Saturday from an AHL game. Obviously I wasn’t glued to the games. Having said that, something isn’t adding up to me with regard to Andrew Takacs. On here, I have been one of his biggest advocates since the start of the season. I believed that he and Nick Haas just needed some time in the NCAA. They were inexperienced at this level. Once Andrew got that under his belt (by early December), he was a stud in net. Anyone can have a bad game; I understand that fact. But what I have seen recently seems different to me. And this will sound strange, but I am still a true believer in his talents between the pipes. But something isn’t right. I am not sure that I wouldn’t try Harder to get Nick the experience he needs for our future.

Haas let in two goals on four shots in the third. We have a stud goalie coming in next year, check him out.

Shabby, for the record, I am not advocating that we give up on Andrew Takacs… nor Nick Haas… nor “Jack” Olson. We just need to give Nick more of a chance.

Again…
Colton Point, Colgate, 2016-17, 2 wins, 5 losses, 2 ties.

Mitch Benson, Colgate, 2018-19, 9 wins, 21 losses, 3 ties.

Carter Gylander, Colgate, 2020-21, 6 wins, 9 losses, 4 ties.

Andrew Takacs, Colgate, to-date, 16 wins, 11 losses, 2 ties.

Nick Haas, Colgate, to-date, 1 win, 4 losses, 1 tie.

I think Takacs still deserves to start, yes he had a terrible weekend but he has been Very good for two months.

Goalie rotational strategy is always an interesting topic.

If it were me, I would plan on starting Nick Haas on Friday against Saint Lawrence and Andrew Takacs on Saturday against Clarkson.

It sounds like Shabby would plan on starting Andrew Takacs both nights.

What say the rest of the regulars on this thread?
