Colgate 2024-25 Harder Hockey

sshablak

It all starts with the goaltending.
Going forward I have a very good feeling about this years team. Recruits look talented with some nice size sprinkled in. You can't teach "size". Hopefully some added physicality will promote a "Harder" style of hockey. The schedule doesn't do us any favors early on with most of Oct. on the road. One key area will be to find a clear cut #1 goalie to replace Gylander, as we know, it all starts with the goaltending ! Carry on !

Thanks, Shabby!!

I bought my same-seat season ticket and parking pass this week, but I will be forgoing Sullivan Suite access this year. And I will be going to less ‘Gate ECAC Hockey away games this season and instead attempting to visit more ‘new’ arenas (for me). I am currently at 142 rinks, lifetime, at which I have seen hockey.

Go ‘Gate!!

I am sure someone noticed this earlier, but we will be playing against Pierson Brandon and Nick Anderson when we go to UMass Lowell

And that's because UML has better post grad programs ? Maybe the players think better exposure to NHL scouts ? Why doesn't Colgate get more programs for fifth year players ?

Shabby, good to see the new thread & hope to see you at football in the Fall! Nick's definitely going to UMass for their grad program, according to his parents... might play professionally after this year, but is a psyche major (think I remember that correctly) & understands he's not making a career out of hockey.

Also doubt expanding Gate's grad programs to keep a few athletes on campus is even on the radar... school considers itself an undergraduate institution, full stop.

You will only see me if you get out of that tent once in awhile as I haven't missed a home game in twenty five years or more. :)

Six is good...a little cooler. Guess I should go to "Tapatalk" to talk football, see you over there !

At least there's only a month break in December. Normally it's six or seven weeks between home games.

Thanks, Shabby!!

What are your top three rinks?

NorthMike,
for modern arenas, North Dakota’s Engelstad wins going away. Penn State’s Pegula is second.
for historic rinks, Princeton’s Hobey Baker is one and Saint Lawrence’s Appleton is two, but it’s close.

Shabby,
I have not seen a game at Clinton Arena. I know, for shame.

I think we all know, by now, how I judge season schedules...

how many teams will we be playing this coming season that made last year's 16-team NCAA tournament?

Quinnipiac, twice, home and away.
Cornell, twice, home and away.
RIT, twice, away and away.

And that's it.
I look forward to the day when we (can) schedule teams like national champion Denver, even if it is on the road, in addition to our top ECAC Hockey (and Atlantic Hockey America) rivals.

I get regular email updates from Coach Harder. This is what he sent today:

Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat. Fortune favors the bold.

We know this translation because a couple of our players are taking Latin (and because we’ve seen the John Wick movies many, many times — that tattoo is hard to miss).

It’s also who we are: we have been bold in how we recruit, we were bold in the transfer portal, and we are unceasingly bold in how we play.

We have asked our returning student-athletes to work harder than they ever have in the off-season, and we’ve set ambitiously high expectations for our first-years. We are counting down the minutes until we are able to hit the ice.

The first day of classes brings the first day of training camp. August 29 has been circled and highlighted on my calendar since playoffs ended. Today is the day we will begin to establish the team identity that will carry us through the season. Although we are coming off a strong season, not winning a championship has left us wanting more — much more. This year, we have a unity of purpose, not just in our locker room but in our entire Colgate Men’s Hockey community. We all want to win.

It was fantastic seeing Colgate colors in the stands at our road games. That energy is infectious (keep it coming), and that deep school spirit helped us exceed our fundraising goals in the spring. Thank you!

Our team will continue to push to get better every single day as we strive to keep building our powerful network — it means so much to our student-athletes.

So the team is hitting the ice regularly starting today, and the bar has been raised regarding team/season goals. Nice!

As for me, I’m still in the Boston area, so I plan on attending one of our games at UConn and one of our games at UMass Lowell this October. I’ll get to see what this team looks like early on! Let’s go!!!

Right now, I plan to attend both UConn and both UML games. I also plan to attend both Penn State games, which mysteriously aren’t on their recently released season schedule graphic.

As an oldtimer I'm waiting for the next 1PM home game at '65 Arena. Guess i'll have a long wait, eh? :-(

Awful news out of BC. Tragedies like this show how small the college hockey world really is. Sympathies to the Gaudreau family and the BC hockey faithful.
