Colgate 2022-23

As much as I complained about DV over the past several seasons, I am so happy for him to retire on his terms after winning the elusive ECAC title. There was never a doubt that he absolutely lived and breathed Colgate hockey.

I agree with GreenCoat it’s a good start to a list. Here are two more names with ties to the program: Steve Spott and Alex Evin.

WHOA.

Didn’t see this coming. Glad DV is going out a champion and choosing to step down on his terms. Now I’m REALLY kicking myself for not going to Lake Placid this year, and even worse, for only making it to ONE game this season (that 5-4 OT loss at Harvard).

A new chapter of Colgate Men’s Ice Hockey begins NOW! We have a golden opportunity to bring in top recruits to a beautiful campus with a beautiful rink. Can we pull a Yale and find our Keith Allain? Can we pull a Denver/Boston Bruins and find our Jim Montgomery?

Keith Allain? Lol……I can’t believe what I just read. You’re really lowering your expectations huh

I think Brett Riley would be a good choice if they went that route. He has made LIU tough as hell to play against in only 3 years as a program and obviously has familiarity with Colgate. Very young too.

I am curious to see which route they choose though because there's a few different directions they could go.

I can't see Spotter leaving the Dallas Stars ! Riley would be tremendous, doubt he'll leave LIU.

Now that's a list - although Shep is out of hockey and Brad is looking to get back in.

Certainly Dumais has to be near the top of the list. I think Pecknold recently heaped a ton of praise on him recently and even I think mentioned him as being ready to be a head coach...

Also, you have to at least give Riley a call to gauge his interest. He's done a ton of work getting LIU off the ground and has now started two programs from scratch... so he certainly understands the level of effort being the HC takes. At the end of the day, LIU is an independent program - at least for the time being - that's a tenant in the Islanders practice building with no plans to build a rink. LIU doesn't even yet have dedicated locker rooms at Northwell...after awhile dragging hockey bags around on a daily basis gets REALLY old. All of this is a long way of saying that Riley might be enticed to come put his mark on a storied program that he is familiar with and which has beautiful facilities. Just my two cents !

PS: Is there any chance Vaughn slides into the A.D. job for a few years ???....or is he fully ready to spend winters where it isn't frozen ?

From the ‘Where are They Now?’ Department…

“There are 2 players who appeared in all 72 (Salt Lake City) Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) games this season: Dylan Fitze and Tyler Penner. Penner was 1 of 2 Grizzlies along with Mason Mannek, who appeared in all 72 games last season.”

Favorite Memory:
Beating draft-heavy Harvard for the ECAC Title!

Close Second:
Game-tying and go-ahead goal vs. Cornell at home; surreal environment from days of yore

Worst Memory:
Drubbing by Michigan on the national stage

Could truly not be happier for Coach Vaughan. Had every feeling this would be his last hurrah. He was a class act who was dedicated to Colgate in every way. Glad to see he will remain a part of the community for the foreseeable future.

Whatever happened to Andy McDonald?
