Colgate 2021-22

It has been a while but this long time transplanted Cape Cod fan is rooting for a sweep of the Eli's this weekend so they can go to Ithaca while our women fight through QPac and then probably the Elis in the ECAC finals in New Haven... If the women can get by QPac on Friday, even if they lose in the finals they should get the nod for the NCAAs. Go Gate!

Welcome back Oldtimer, don't be a stranger, you've been missed !

Appreciated. They're still a long shot against the top teams in the league but for the first time in a while this '21-22 team can score, is entertaining and on any given night is capable of playing great..Go Gate!

I probably like the Pair Wise Ranking (PWR) more than I should (as a Colgate fanatic), but… just how bad was the bottom 8 of the 12-team ECAC (when compared to all 59 NCAA men’s ice hockey teams, of which the top 30 would graciously be considered ‘in the top half’) this season?

This weekend…
PWR #56 is at PWR #34,
PWR #54 is at PWR #41,
PWR #52 is at PWR #47, and
PWR #57 is at PWR #50.

And PWR #34 is my beloved Colgate. Yikes!

Mitch Benson led the team on the ice tonight and will be in goal against Yale. He is backed up by Andrew Farrier and Carter Gylander.
Pep Band is in the house, as are a bunch of ‘Gate students in ‘my section.’ In fact, near me, there aren’t that many empty seats.
Colgate 11, Yale 9, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, Yale 0, score after one.
Mitch has made some great saves, as had their goalie from Madison, Wisc.

Colton Young with a beautiful unassisted goal.
Mitch Benson had a shot stopped, but it dropped and trickled in between his skates.
Colton Young with a terrific PPG.

Yale 21, Colgate 15, SOG after two.
Colgate 2, Yale 1, score after two.

Ten minutes left and Yale is really pressuring… all five guys in our end. Colgate kills a penalty.

7.1 seconds left and Yale tied it up.

Yale 26, Colgate 23, SOG after regulation.
Colgate 2, Yale 2, score after regulation.

Both teams are allowing their respective goalies to face a lot of shots.

McKechney with the OT goal.

Colgate 34, Yale 34, final SOG.
Colgate 3, Yale 2, final score.

Wasn’t pretty but we’ll certainly take it. I thought Yale had the better of the play in OT but McKechney made a great play to win it.

What were the refs looking at after McKechneys goal?

Magoo, I don’t know but I think Yale coach Keith Allain requested the video review. Seconds before the goal, son Niklas Allain was limping back to their bench.

It wasn’t a rout, but I think the better team won tonight (and I can’t always say that).

Gate Radio said they were looking at a possible major penalty against Colgate, just before the goal I guess.

The Yale player looked like he took a stick to the chin, wasn't pretty. It was essentially a 5x4 goal. Looked like Allain had a reason to be angry, but the refs are always right...

Yea it was possible penalty, but under the rules it either has to be a major penalty or can’t call it after the fact. Definitely a high stick but not major

Good luck tonight to Colgate Raiders. Let's make it a 3-0 weekend for Colgate hockey versus Yale. (Colgate Women's Hockey - ECAC Champions, winning 2-1 in overtime.) Go 'Gate.

Mitch Benson led the team out for tonight’s game against Yale. Andrew Farrier and Carter Gylander will be backing him up.
From the midpoint on in last night’s game, there appeared to be no love lost between these two teams. The Allain incident at the end won’t help matters in that regard.

Had the man advantage. Two great chances. Tried to get too fancy on the first and pinged the pipe on the second.

Brilliant play by Paul McAvoy and his line…unassisted goal for ‘Gate.

Yale 13, Colgate 9, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, Yale 0, score after one.

Arnaud Vachon scored from Jeff Stewart. I get on Vachon for spending too much time in the penalty box (he’s in it right now for second time tonight), but he knows how to score.
And Yale scored on the PP.

Yale 20, Colgate 18, SOG after two.
Colgate 2, Yale 1, score after two.

Will we go into a defensive shell for the entire third period, trying to protect a one-goal lead? My guess is ‘yes.’

Beautiful unassisted goal by Griffin Lunn.

ENG by Matt Verboon.
ENG by Ross Mitton.

Yale 29, Colgate 24, final SOG.
Colgate 5, Yale 1, final score.

got the job done against a game and undermanned Yale team...and a big shout out to Gate Radio who is simply one of best at calling a college hockey game...knowledgeable, fair and Doc Emrick-like in his ability to capture the flow of a hockey game...Colgate is fortunate to have such a representative of our school...

Wow. I was thrilled that Colgate kept their foot on the gas in the third period and came out with a HUGE win.
Now I feel bad that while we were slumping mid-season, a friend that winters in the Phoenix, Ariz., area got us tickets for next Friday's LIU@ASU game.
I figured that Colgate would travel in the first round and not advance, so I booked the trip to log in Oceanside Rink before ASU moves to their new on-campus facility. And I only live 45 minutes from Cornell's Lynah Rink. Dang! I am not a fair-weather fan, though, as I do have my Lake Placid, N.Y., ECAC tourney tickets and accommodations purchased. Go 'Gate!
P.S. - The deer were out tonight. 5 deer seen separately on the 90-minute way home tonight, though only one crossed right in front of me.

Not a good Yale team by any stretch of the imagination, but we sure had their number this year. I am very curious to see how the series against Cornell plays out.

Congrats to the women for winning a second straight league title. Coach Fargo has built up quite a formidable program. Hopefully, they can make noise in the NCAAs.

Hats off to Colgate on the series sweep. Thought it was closer than it should be against the #57 PWR team. Keep the broom out of the closet and get to .500 with a sweep at Cornell!

We are .500 now, good win but not as sweet as the women. NCAA game in Hamilton this week(maybe two) !

You can tell how much I am following the men these days lol…
.500 is a very good sign, but sweeping Cornell at Lynah with our pathetic history against them is a tall order. Something about this Colgate team makes me believe we won’t make it easy for them. And the Big Red are not invincible this year.
We will lose if we take penalties. And penalties are a given in this series.
Enjoying all aspects of Colgate hockey this morning!
Good luck @ColgateMBB! Navy/BU should be a great game and glad one of them will lose!

Cornell is a bit of an enigma this year, they lost six straight in Jan and Feb, but swept North Dakota away, and Quinnipiac. And we swept them, go figure. Which team shows up this weekend ? We finished 10-2, our best streak in years, at least we should have a fairly confident team.
The Big Red finished strong after their losing streak with two shutouts over Q-Pac and Princeton and a thrashing of Clarkson 6-2. Mike is still out to the best of my knowledge.

Shabby, I have friends in Ithaca that are long-time Cornell season ticket holders. They said Big Red’s slump after the North Dakota sweep was less about their coach’s absence as it was about the injury to, and loss of, Russian Max Andreev (and one or two others). I don’t know when and if Max came back.
