Colgate 2020-21

The more I look at this, the crazier it becomes.

In Vaughan’s first eight seasons, he led six winning campaigns.

In his last twenty years, he has five winning seasons.

The administration must be thinking he’s the same coach he was in ‘99-‘00.

There is no other way to say it:

We have a coach who has an almost 30 year record of mediocrity.

As long as he is in charge, the program will be reflective of that.

How has this been allowed to happen? His last winning season was ‘14-‘15.

The fact that DV recruits and graduates class kids, the fact that he's a good guy, etc. has probably extended his tenure...but we are long, long overdue for a change, a change in the entire program, including how we market ourselves to our alums and our undergrads...I've been critical of our students for not showing up, but frankly can you blame them? And Marmot, the only reason we've had ONE .500 season in recent years was due to Colton Point standing on his head for c. 40 games. At some point - and we've reached that point - the needs of the program and the needs of those who run it are distinctly at cross purposes...my guess is that DV will get his 30 years at Colgate (2022) and then a change will occur...NOTHNG personal; Don's a good man and develops quality kids who represent Colgate very well...that's not the issue and our former reputation as an good incubator of hockey talent has gone by the wayside many years ago...we've had ZERO first team ECAC selections since Austin Smith...we don't score goals, our special teams are awful...and it's become more of a "trend"...it is now a way of life...

This is nothing new. Yet when I mention the backwards progress every year, the firing squad comes out and screams disloyalty. What a joke. If this was Alabama football, Vaughan would have been gone long ago, just like Sweeney.

I watched the entire game today, which I seldom do, and thought we fought hard and played well. We hung with them until the end. Like the women's team, not sure why we don't have a solid backup goalie. That's hockey 101, right?

Can't do worse than our program-low 9-0 drubbing by Qpac last week, so it's all roses from here. Wouldn't normally say this, but already looking ahead to Mar. 18 as the #4 seed. New slate, new season.

And...at least the guys come dressed to play. We can definitely thank them and Colgate for that.

IBT - I watched/couldn't watch on my desktop and rebooted serveral times but.. no go. I even went back to the ESPN+ homepage and started over...no luck....then went to the hockey schedule link on the 'Gate athletic website and started over...again, nothing happening. After doing the above several times I called it a day. I want my money back. Lousy service by ESPN+ IMO..

I'll try once more next weekend, and again on March 18th....

BTW, March 18th is a "one-and-done" game, right?

Not only is the broadcast bad, but the video freezes LIVE as a goal is scored! This has happened to me several times, and just happened 4 times as I watcj the Clarkson/SLU women's game right now. It also happens when I rewind/replay. We need to hire RPI TV, which is hands-down great. They also give amazing video recaps...so does SLU.
On a similar note, no mention on ECACHockey.com that Colgate won the RS title. No mention on USCHO, either. Both ticker tapes (USCHO/ECACHockey) show the CLK/SLU game 0-0 when actually the first period is over and SLU leads, 4-1. The ECAC web page has always looked like a high school club project and USCHO is white, bland, and full of damn advertisements. Still waiting for the women's PWR to be updated after this past weekend, what a JOKE.

Bill, I assume you are talking about the women, not the men? Right? You might try CHN for better coverage. USCHO certainly lacks any kind of sex appeal.

I can't believe we are at #37 in the PWR. With QU at #8 and Clarkson at #15, we are sadly the "Last of the Mohegans" when it comes to this ECAC season. Even SLU at #34 is ahead of us. Ugh....

Bill, regarding ESPN+... how's your wireless signal? I bought a booster for my wireless router last Fall, it's made a huge difference. I used to get the freezing thing all the time, this season ESPN+ has been seamless. Though whether seeing our men's games with no interruptions is a good thing or not, I'll let you be the judge!

Yes, was referring to the women's team on these sites.
On CHN, not very impressed with the women's page there, either. They say the women have played 21 games 13-7-1?
PWR unavailable and hasn't been updated in 10 days, wtf? Is there a fan forum on that site?
I have a good connection, just awkward that it freezes at scoring moments on occasion, even on the replay
Confident but nervous for Friday, but for the love of God, please score first for a change

Speaking of the women's team - heartfelt congratulations to them on their first outright League title and to Coach Fargo on being named ECAC Coach of the Year!! Go 'Gate!

Also picked up forward of the year and defenseman of the year! I guess when you finish first in a 4 team conference you will get the lion's share of awards.

Thought we played pretty well and frankly deserved better than 0 points...some bad "puck luck" and a continuation of unusually mediocre goaltending doomed us to another loss...glad to see Mitton get some decent ice time...he MAY be a little weak in his own zone (I frankly don't know) but he makes things happen on the ice and has very good offensive instincts...a sad end to another (and another and another) losing season...

ESPN+ says: "We are sorry we can't play this video at the moment. Check back later." So once again ESPN+ comes through as I miss another game....harrumph!! What are they doing wrong I ask?

Ahem, they beat #11 in the nation Q-Pac, good win for them, and nothing to say from the naysayers ??

I guess I fit the rather ill-defined description of a "naysayer"...last night I gave the team credit and they deserved credit tonight as well...great to see McKechney get the winning goal as he has played well all season...PP actually looked pretty good...and, and remember this is one of the "naysayers", I think we're a better hockey team than our 6-10-5 overall record reflects...nonetheless, it doesn't change the macro picture and the program has a choice to make (and make soon)...honestly and objectivity trump misplaced optimism or even misplaced satisfaction...sadly all the recent history (and not-so-recent history) call for an overhaul of the program...IMO that makes yours truly and several others not naysayers but very concerned supporters of the program...

Sorry, too many hops ! So frustrated about this program when I saw we won and no positive comments here about the game I went off. Can I blame Labatt's ?

To follow up on the last few comments, it was nice to see the team beat a quality opponent. You have to feel good for the kids on the team.

That said, one good win is not at all emblematic of where the program stands. Unfortunately, we have far too much data over the past five, ten, twenty years to be harboring any illusions about the trajectory of the program. Not only are we headed for our fourth consecutive losing season (ponder that for a moment, this year’s seniors have never had a record other than losing), but our coach is 34 games under .500 in his almost thirty year career. No ECAC tournament titles. No NCAA wins. What could possibly be different now?

To riff off what Green Coat said above, last night was excellent in a micro sense but not indicative at all of where the program is in a macro sense.
