Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Also wondering if there was an article I missed - and if not, why - about our new arena? New rinks always get a nod on this site - that is, if you're UNO or NoDak or even Qpac, I guess. Hope any Maine fans who made the long trip enjoyed themselves and the new facility.

Glad to hear we finally got our first win of the season, and our first in the new rink! Looking at the team statistics, it's good to see Adam Dauda leading the way in goals and points. Remember, he missed the first half of last season due to medical issues. Bobby McMann is second in scoring right now. Like I said earlier in this thread, expect great things from him going forward. He's also wearing number 9, which is always a good omen. Furthermore, (a lucky) 13 different players have scored at least 1 goal in the first 7 games of the season. Finding the back of the net hasn't been a problem this season. However, we are a young team and the growing pains we've seen aren't surprising to me. It's not how you start, but how you finish.

Lack of depth last season torched us. That definitely isn't a problem this season. As far as the rest of this season goes, I expect it to be similar to 2012-13, hopefully without the "February collapse" that we saw that year.

Assume Finn is getting the nod this season to start league play? Have to like our SOG vs. Maine, so important to keep the pressure on and stay in the offensive zone. A bit more disciplined with the penalties, which was essential...and 3/14 on the pp, not too bad?!

Colgate usually gets a nice contingent of fan support at Bright; hope they are the 6th man. Always hope for a split on the road. Despite having 1 win, only 3 losses in 7 games which sounds much better!

Go 'Gate

Great save by Charlie. Point is still out, battling mono.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Congrats to Bobby McMann - ECAC rookie of the week!!! Go 'Gate!!!

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Dauda is #5 in the country with three PP goals in six games. Powerplay has been anemic at best.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Best of luck to the boys tonight!!! Should be a good game! Congrats to Darcy Murphy for scoring his first AHL goal with the Manitoba Moose!!! He was called up from Tulsa. Go 'Gate!!!!!

Would love to see Colgate get a road win and 2 pts this weekend. Getting at least 1-2 pts each weekend will really help if they want to fight for a top 8 spot this year. Also I don't want to see a young team lose their first 3-4 games in league play and start panicking. Will be a tough road test but they have some momentum and have played on the road already against MC. Go Gate

Congrats to Tyson Spink on being named ECHL Rookie of the Month with Toledo..

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Charlie was/is amazing!! Fantastic game for him!!!! Happy for the team. It seems our confidence is growing. Fun game to watch. Go 'Gate!!!

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

42-15 in shots for the Cantabs.....how did we almost win this game? Finn was unbelieveable. Our D played much better IMO. Maybe a 3-pt weekend?

Wow what a game for my boy Finn, he must be motivated by my criticism, good for him. That is an outstanding performance and he stole a point for sure on the road as noted.

That being said penalties are still a major problem for this team, our goalie is not going to bail us out every night. Also from those who watched did we get outplayed that bad or were the SOG some what deceiving because of the penalties?

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

I was at the game last night. We were crooks for 52 minutes and 51 seconds, getting badly outshot (shots were 18-2 Harvard after the 1st period, despite us leading 1-0) but poised to make the ultimate robbery! Then Harvard scored and I had this sinking feeling. But give credit to the Raiders for not succubing to the pressure. We did steal 1 point from the Crimson tonight, and Charlie Finn was certainly up to the task at hand. I sure hope he can continue to play like this for the remainder of the season - it would be HUGE!

Side note - Harvard's goal horn/song is the same as the Boston Bruins? Weak. I'm sure Ted & Ryan Donato have something to do with that.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

You can only ask your goaltender to do so much. Another brilliant game by Finn, but we've got to get some offense going or there are going to be a lot of 1-0, 0-0, or 1-1 games this season. PK doing great but the PP not so much. At least the frosh are getting some good experience, going on the road, learning how tough it is to play ECAC hockey. Hopefully this pays off with some points at Yale and Brown next weekend.

You got outplayed. Badly. I've never seen a game at Bright where Harvard so dominated the other team for a majority of the game. We had three open net chances that we whiffed on. Finn definitely stole this one for you guys.

It has to do with the fact that the band almost never shows up to our games anymore. Basketball is the on campus sport of choice and they get first dibs I guess on our musicians.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Great weekend for Charlie :)

Have to believe, at this point, he's the #1 going forward. Point will get his time, but how do you sit Finn right now?

Can we find enough goals to grab 3 or 4 points this coming weekend?
