Colgate 2014-15

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I think we're back on track for a tremendous season. We are now #13 in the PWR, allowed three goals total in last four games since the break, and have allowed two goals or less in fourteen of twenty games. We have no top scorers in the top sixty, meaning we are very balanced. Defensively less than two goals per game at #5 nationally, 87% PK, and 19% PP, very good special teams which you have to have.

Got6 and Saints, I'm pretty sure the Cornwall boys started with Jesse Winchester getting the Spink twins to come here then everyone else followed. Wasn't really a matter of better scouting, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Shabby - Spink has 10 goals and is tied for 22nd. Not that I'm checking people's stats haha but I double checked because I just happened to see that this morning.

We have 14 regular season games left, I think if we were to win 9 of those it would keep us in the ncaa tourney up to that point with 22 wins on the season, then the playoffs! However, still some volatility in the pairwise and a lot of teams right behind us. It's good to see SCSU playing better and even NE despite the loss to BC yesterday, they are playing a lot better. I think at one point they were like 0-8 and 56th in the pairwise so if they remain around 30 or high 20s that could help. As rainman pointed out though we need some wins over some quality opponents. Realistically that gives us 2 games against Harvard, and 1 left against Yale and Quinnipiac. We will need to win at least 2 of those, as those are all quality teams right now. The good thing we have going for us is that our worst loss is to Mercyhurst at home who is still 30th in the pairwise. Let's just keep winning! Finn is playing great right now.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

He has eighteen points and tied for #54 in scoring, not goals scored.

No matter what, barring a key injury to a guy like Finn, you guys are going to be fine. You're good in all positions, skate well, have enough scoring and are well coached. Just beat Q-suck. PLEASE!

Watched the Yale-Harvard game @ MSG after ours last night. Those teams are really good and can fly. The fact that Yale beat the Crimson 4-1 shows the talent on the Eli team. They are making waves; these four games are going to be real battles, we need to elevate our game even higher than it was this past road trip. The Capital District next w/e should tell us a lot; Union will be no cake walk and may serve to get us further honed before we meet Harvard-Yale-QU.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Don't forget, we lost to Yale 3-1 and it was 2-1 until the open net. Hamilton played in goal and we were without Spink, Borowkowski and Murphy.

Good points Shabby. Hopefully with these guys in the lineup it will put us over the top :) I think Yale has improved a lot since the start of the season.....but so have we.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

What I have enjoyed about this little four game run is that we have won in different ways. We won a 6-1 game in which we dominated. A 2-1 game where we controlled the play, a 2-1 game where we were dominated for all but 43 seconds of the second period and a 1-0 shut out.

It shows that we can play with or at least like any team in the country. We don't have to win only with speed or finn standing on his head.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I don't think it will mean much of anything for the hockey team. The new rink is too far along for the new president to stop that.

As far as the school is concerned it is kinda concerning that two presidents have left so quickly (chopp was there 5-6 years and so was herbst). I don't know how long presidents usually last, but I would have thought more than 5-6 years

Rebecca was there 7 years, which is the average length of tenure for college presidents these days. Don't buy the spin that Herbst is leaving, he's doing so because his contract wasn't going to be renewed. On the positive side, Mike Herling will be leading the search for the new president... he was the principal fundraiser for the new rink and is a big supporter of athletics generally, hopefully he'll find someone who reflects that sensibility. I wouldn't be concerned, I'm pleased we'll be looking for someone who will be a better fit for Gate!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Have to like this weeks Bracketology...Colgate stays out east, 4 ECAC teams in! We're moving in the right direction; hope we can keep it going.

East Regional (Providence):
15 Michigan vs. 3 Harvard
10 Vermont vs. 7 Miami

Northeast Regional (Manchester):
13 Colgate vs. 4 Omaha
11 Yale vs. 8 Boston University

Midwest Regional (South Bend):
14 Quinnipiac vs. 2 Minnesota-Duluth
9 Massachusetts-Lowell vs. 5 Bowling Green

West Regional (Fargo):
16 Robert Morris vs. 1 Minnesota State
12 Michigan Tech vs. 6 North Dakota
Conference breakdowns

ECAC Hockey — 4
Hockey East — 3
NCHC — 4
WCHA — 3
Big Ten — 1
Atlantic Hockey — 1

You're right - his contract wasn't renewed - it was a bad fit right from the start. A group of employees was told in a meeting yesterday that this does not affect the new rink at all.
Seems like college presidents, and even public school superintendents aren't staying as long as they used to.

Prognosticating the PWR, January 15, 2015

After last weekend's sweep up in the North Country, Colgate vaulted up to 13th in the PWR, thanks to a little help from both Western Michigan (sweeping Notre Dame) and St. Cloud State (sweeping Miami). St. Cloud has moved up to 21st in the RPI, so if they can continue to be successful, they will boost our own RPI, provided that we keep on winning as well. Anyways, here are the desirable outcomes for Colgate this weekend:

Friday:
Colgate over RPI
Brown over Yale
Bowling Green over Michigan Tech
St. Cloud over Denver
Northeastern over Vermont
BU over BC
Maine over UMass Lowell
Western Michigan over Minn-Duluth
Sacred Heart over RIT
Mercyhurst over Holy Cross
Robert Morris over AIC

Saturday:
Colgate over Union
Brown over Yale
Bowling Green over Michigan Tech
St. Cloud over Denver
Northeastern over Vermont
Western Michigan over Minn-Duluth
Sacred Heart over RIT
Mercyhurst over Holy Cross
Robert Morris over AIC

Sunday:
BU over UMass Lowell

If ALL of these results go in our favor, we could climb as high as 9th. But we can only control our own outcomes, and 2 wins this weekend will keep us in the right direction.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I always worry about the Friday night because it's the first time on the ice in a week but this team has been performing well on Fridays so I shouldn't be too concerned (old habits die hard). Especially when it is the "easier" of the two games.

We control our own destiny for the league and presumably the NCAA tournament so if we win we don't have to worry about what ANYONE else is doing.

I just hope the next president is a Colgate alum. When is the last time we had that? Mark Murphy would be awesome but I doubt he would leave the Packers.

I'll take a gamble and say the following are likely, but hope there are a few other upsets along the way.
