Re: Colgate 2014-15

One of the bloggers is real close to why Jason has left the caoching staff. It had nothing to do with the university, the athletic department or the hockey team. Let's just say it was "outside influence" that caused him to leave.

By the way - a real nice article about Joe Wilson on syracuse.com - go to the site and search "Joe Wilson". Sorry, I can't get the link to paste in here properly.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

3-5 feet of snow in Tug forecast by tomorrow, I'm watching the Clarkson stream from my living room. Here's hoping for two wins this weekend, Friday night's game should be very low scoring, you would think.

Streaming here also. Perry is a real solid goalie for them. Agree that it will be a low scoring game. Hope our offense can get 2, maybe 3 on them...maybe that would be enough.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Well, we get the 2-1 win, but that 3rd period looked like "rope-a-dope" to me. Did we have a shot in the third? I missed it if so. Nice Spink-to-Spink goal wins it. We have to put on a better show tomorrow at Appleton :)

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Good win tonight. Clarkson is a defensively-oriented team, and we cashed in on BOTH of our scoring opportunities. I watched the free live video tonight, and the Clarkson announcers were saying that this was the best game they've seen Clarkson play in a while, even though they lost to us.

As Tom Brady or Bill Belichick would say, "we're on to SLU..."

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Didn't have a chance to watch the feed last night - sure sounds like it was a good ugly win. We got outplayed about every way you can and still hung on to win. Seems like a character win - it may be a real big positive for the rest of the season.

As much as I hate to wish for it a Cornell win Saturday would help us a lot, especially if we can find a way to beat the Larries. We'd jump over both of the north country teams if that could happen.

We've got games in hand on a bunch of teams, if we can win those we're still in good shape. But .....I doubt if anybody's going to catch Quinnipiac for the regular season championship. We can hope, though!!

I think we have only 2 games in hand, not a "bunch." I could be wrong.

SLU will be a tough out after they downed Cornell last night. They'd love nothing better than to sweep the Central NY teams.

What happened to Steve Perry last night? The announcers on the Clarkson stream didn't seem to know if he was sick or hurt in the first period. Great that we scored the 2 goals within about 40 seconds; they may have been our only chances of the night.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

For the teams that are ahead of us points wise

Clarkson (1 game in hand, and 1 point behind so we are ahead of the curve there and we have the head to head tiebreaker)
SLU ( 1 game in hand, 1 point behind)
Harvard ( 2 games in hand, 5 points behind so we are just 1 point behind them if we win all those games)
QU ( 4 games in hand, 9 points behind, so just like Harvard 1 point behind them if we win all the games in hand)

And since we have games with both QU and Harvard, we actually control our own destiny for the Cleary Cup.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I watched the game and when I looked at the stats I was surprised we got outshot. Clarkson played a very strong game, they are all about defense, and they have talented big defenseman. Their weakness is their inability to score goals, if they had better forwards they would be contenders.

In the third(outshot 11-3) most of the shots were either long or perimeter shots, they only had maybe one or two good scoring chances, shots are so misleading sometimes.

The winning goal was sweet, tic tac toe and an open net. Finn again was strong, their goal was a laser wrister top shelf, very nice. I thought in the third we played more defensively and were content to just make sure no mistakes led to the tie.

Another good thing was only two minor penalties but the Knight goal was a PP. All in all a good win.

I'm pretty sure Perry aggravated something lower body, he was moving slow and to me near the end of the first he could hardly get up, then didn't play.

The 2-1 score sure didn't surprise.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Thrilled for the win!!! Clarkson outplayed us for 59:13 but our 0:47 stole the game! Physical game and a great crowd on hand. Already earned a split on the road, let's make it a 4-pt weekend. PWR #15 for a day...with a little help from SCSU and NU, me thinks!
Go 'Gate!

Some whacky games yesterday...
BC ties NU with about 2min left
Penn State scores 4 unanswered in the third to tie OSU, yet loses in OT
UNH ties Dartmouth with 2, late 3rd period (one EAG) goals
BU ties Wisco with 2 EAGs...ouch!
MTU uses 2, late PPGs to tie NMU
Poor Brown...loses to Providence with 0:16 left in OT
Don't know if you caught the Utica/Amherst game on Jan. 2 @ Plattsburgh, Shabby...ugh!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I haven't seen a UC game yet this year, been to a few Utica Comets games. They are almost all sellouts, tough to get a ticket.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Second year in a row that we sweep the NC road trip. Only the third time in the last 20 years. And also our fifth win in the last 19 regular season trips to SLU. I'll take.

Unfortunately the old "Fear The North Country" saying hasn't been in effect for quite a few years now :o Hope we get to meet up again with Colgate later in the season, maybe even in Lake Placid? Good luck the rest of the season!

There was no question who the better team was tonight. SLU had a few chances in the third, their best period, but otherwise that was pretty lopsided. Unlike Saints#1, I hope we don't see you guys again. We just don't match up against you guys for some reason. Every year the number one thing that irritates me when I look at the Colgate roster is how many guys you steal from our backyard in the CJHL / Ottawa Valley. Cornwall is just across the river from one of our coaches. Good luck to you guys in the Cap District next weekend.

From what I can tell from the recruits we land and ones we lose to opposing schools few of them are from the CJHL/Ottawa Valley ... So I wonder if this is just us venturing into other areas for our recruiting? I could be wrong though as I admittedly don't know too much on the recruiting end of things ...

That's what we thought the five years prior to last year.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

4 point weekend in the North Country :)

Ditto! We've won 4 in a row, and that definitely gives us confidence and momentum going forward. We've also leapfrogged into 3rd place in the ECAC, although we currently cannot catch Quinnipiac or Harvard right now, even with the games in hand. But we still have the benefit of playing Harvard twice.

On to the Capital District. We haven't swept that trip since 2005-06. Let's keep this train rolling!

Well, way back when Donny was a coach at SLU, we had a big recruiting presence in the CJHL and got guys like Dave Saunders, Jamie Baker, Doug Murray, Shawn Rivers, Mike McCourt, Bob Prier, Burke Murphy, the good Poapst brother ;-), Brock McBride, etc. When that league is in our back yard, it sucks to see guys driving right past us on their way to great NCAA D-1 careers at places like Colgate and even BC. But, I do like the emphasis on recruiting in the USHL where guys come most ready for NCAA hockey. Recruiting has been excellent under Carvel. We have some dandy's on the hook. But Colgate's best line is from Cornwall. It'd be good to keep some of that talent up north.
