Re: Colgate 2014-15

Bill, playing this week wouldn't have mattered. Anyone we played would not have given us a great RPI bump. And the only good outcome would have been a sweep. We will play a better team next week which would help us more. Plus if the other teams around us lose we can gain in the pirwise without playing

No, if Princeton wins, they would automatically play Quinnipiac. We will get Dartmouth if they win, but we could also draw Harvard, Cornell, Clarkson, or RPI.

Of course, of course. Sorry for the misinformation. Got the Sunday drags...:(

Re: Colgate 2014-15

We are rooting for Merrimack over Northeastern, Maine over Vermont, and Denver over St. Cloud, penn state over Michigan, and Ohio state over Minnesota

If Northeastern downs Merrimack in 3 games, it wouldn't hurt us. We are also rooting for Alabama-Huntsville to sweep Bowling Green.

Meanwhile, one of our OOC opponents lost a game in bizarre fashion. Start watching from the 6-minute mark to see it unfold:

Re: Colgate 2014-15

This is my annual rant about the upside/downside of having a bye. Since many of you have heard this before I'll keep it brief. I'm wondering how many think it's beneficial to have two weeks off vs. playing this weekend and keeping the momentum going throughout the playoffs? Can a team lose mo' and get stale if it doesn't keep on playing/being competitive every weekend? Is almost two weeks of rest and practice a good thing? Could the extra week help us to get some players that are dinged up, back in the lineup? Is it a reward to the team for playing so hard and getting a top-four seeding? Good reward or bad reward?

Well, this wasn't brief, but you get the idea. Chime in if you have thoughts :)

Especially this year, ´tis a good reward. There´s a chance Spiro could be back in the lineup, which would allow us to have a full lineup for, I believe, the first time all season.

I always used to think of it as more of a curse, but looking at the previous years results in the tournament have shown that the teams with the first round bye tend to do pretty well. Something like 80% of the teams with first round byes make it to the semifinal round.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I always liked the fact that with a bye you only have to win one series at home. An extra week of healing and hoping for Spiro or any other injured players is key also. I'm too lazy to look right now but when was the last time a 1-4 didn't make it to the ECAC Tour ?? Might of been us when we were twelvth seed.

2012-13, Brown made it as seed 7. It's actually not as rare as you'd think.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Just a little fair-weather fandom here. Life has taken over, so I've only been able to catch snippets of the team this year. Great run to close out the RS, especially one point at the Whale. Hope Spiro gets healthy in the next couple weeks and we advance. Whoever gets the Q will have their hands full.

LET'S GO 'GATE!!!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

The bye is huge not just for spiro. Remember that every time we now play is an opportunity for our season to end. In order to get a better chance in the pairwise we need to have games left. Each weekend that passes and us moving on is a better chance to make the ncaa for the second year in a row. (When was the last time that happened, according to the banners in starr rink, never. So let's let some teams play it out,, get healthy and prepared to play next week.

The least amount of time that has gone on between tourney appearances has been 5 years between 2000 and 2005.

Playoff results found here. Maybe we should move the playoffs back to Boston. We are 25 long years overdue and it's about time a maroon flag is raised!

When you look at the attendance figures, Albany didn't do too badly. Compared to LP the numbers are about the same, and certainly better than AC. The tourney in Boston did well, but attendance dipped toward the end of its run ( maybe HE had something to do with that?). The knock against Albany has been the site not being very seccy, but it is more centrally located to all schools, has interstate highways leading to it, and doesn't require a trip on back roads to reach a smallish town with limited housing. I know LP is favored for the HB arena and Olympic heritage but....I say "Bring Back Albany." :)
