Re: Colgate 2014-15
Last night was my first opportunity to see this year's team in action (through the live video stream), and here's what I thought about last night's game:
-We took 3 penalties in the first period. We have to stay out of the box if we're going to be successful. Bad penalties can halt any positive momentum we have built throughout the course of a game. Fortunately, we only took 5 total penalties, but we have to be disciplined. One thing I've never liked is our captains taking penalties. It's happened to Spiro this year and last, to Brian Day in the 2010-11 season, and to David McIntyre in the 2009-10 season.
-Northeastern played a neutral zone trap and blocked a lot of shots. Like us, they play great team defense and as a result, their goalie was able to make some key stops. They won't be easy tonight.
-Through three games, two of our three freshmen forwards have lit the lamp. This could bode well for the future.
-Charlie Finn made the right stops at the right time. With about 5 minutes left to go and the Huskies on a major power play, they pulled the goalie for a 6x4 situation and really put the pressure on us. 16 of their 24 shots on goal game in the 3rd period, and many of them came in that 6x4 situation. Charlie was Finn-tastical.
-The live video stream didn't freeze on me, and it transmitted in HD, but the camera was bobbing up and down in the first period. I was getting dizzy watching the game! I also don't like how they change camera angles when the puck is in the end of the rink near the zamboni/press box. But still, it was better than a blurry video or one that would constantly freeze up.
In other news, thanks to the NHL offering a free preview of its Center Ice package, I was able to catch Chris Wagner's NHL debut last night. Since it was the home opener for the Ducks, every player was introduced one by one, and that included an introduction for Chris. Saw his first shift last night and though he didn't get on the scoresheet, I hope he gets to stick around for a while. The Ducks play next on Sunday against the Blues at 8 PM Eastern. If have Xfinity, Fios, or Time Warner Cable, you will get that game. Check local listings. The free preview of NHL Center Ice is through next Saturday, October 25th.
