Re: Colgate 2014-15
Thanks Boomer, always good to see what non Gate eyes perceive. I realize we are all on cloud nine so it's especially refreshing to get an opinion from the opponent.
Back at ya...the Huskies also are a tremendous team deserving top ten rankings. Great series, great teams, may the best team get the breaks tonight.
A Husky fan's perspective: Your view of the game was exactly the same as mine, watching it live from 10 rows off the ice. St. Cloud is a poised, veteran team with plenty of speed, and Colgate dominated the first period. Our "new" goaltender Charlie Lindgren (saw action in 10 games as a freshman last year) did well to keep the score 2-0 in that period. Second period the home team came back strong, but your goalie Finn was excellent. The only criticism of your team would be the penalties--most of them unnecessary--but SCSU only scored on one of PP's.
Colgate seemed to be the more physical team. One of the unknowns with SCSU is the defense. For the most part, the Huskies played OK defensively, but I would think one of the pairings will be split up tonight. Our "star quality" guy, forward Mike Brodzinski, was frustrated and didn't have a grade-A game. That seldom happens two games in a row, so watch #22 tonight. SCSU hasn't been swept much at all for the past 3 seasons, so tonight will be a challenge for the Raiders.
But with their performance last night, Colgate certainly has a good shot at a sweep. SCSU has played quite a few Eastern teams in the past, and your team looked at least as good--if not better--than Quinnipiac and Union looked in the past two years.
It is really hard to be critical of the ECAC and East Hockey (the evil Western Bias) when you see those teams in person. Good luck (well, NOT tomorrow!) the rest of the way. Colgate looked very much like a team that should be in the top 5 in the nation.
