Re: Colgate 2014-15

It's been a long 190 days since Colgate last took the ice, but the wait is over, even if it's just an exhibition game that doesn't count. Sadly, I didn't make it out to Hamilton this weekend (weather forecast called for rain), and it appears that tonight's game isn't being live streamed. Guess I'll settle for Twitter updates on my phone. I wish CBS Sports Network would pick up at least one of next weekend's games (they carried a handful of St. Cloud and other NCHC games last season), but I guess that's not in the cards.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

For those who couldn't make it out to Hamilton, the team looked really good. They were keeping pucks in the zone, decent passing and shooting a lot more than normal. There was a little let down in the 3rd, a sloppy give away leading to the lone Queens goal. The one worry is that they looked fatigued in the third, but that has to be expected.

The spink spink Baun line did not play for almost the entire third period, and I am not sure I saw spiro out there either.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I left after two periods we were leading 6-0. I guess I saw what I needed to see. The passing was phenominal and we are definitely faster than last year.

Panowyk and Peterson teamed up for the first goal five minutes in, this really pleased me as Panowyk is supposed to be a power forward and also add to our speed. Weburg the third freshman also scored.

The bar has been raised and it's time to follow through, makes me a little nervous, all this attention.

I plan on watching the games this weekend, can't wait.

the cheapest I have found on the nchc tv site is 14.95 for a school monthly pass or 13.99 a day. Anybody have anyway else to watch the game this weekend?

13 bucks for 1 day is insane, but the 15 for a month is good. Most online services are about 9 bucks a game. So if you watch both games this weekend it is not bad, but a complete ripoff if you watch just one

You are going to do great tomorrow .... may the hockey gods be with you. :) The big ice is to your advantage. Colgate 6 - SCSU 3. :) Lets get the ECAC rolling .... :)

No just put your mouse cursor on the lower right hand corner of the televised portion and it will come up...:)

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Eight years ago, we were also picked to finish 1st in the ECAC. We started the season playing in the Icebreaker tournament, and lost our first game 6-0 to Vermont.

This year, we have also been picked to finish 1st in the ECAC. But this time, we started the season with a win, on the road at St. Cloud. I believe this is the first time ever we have beaten this team. It's only one game but I'm going to savor it until 8 PM tonight.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

That first period last night was about as good as any I have seen in many years of watching 'Gate hockey...flat out fantastic. A definite drop off in the second, but back to sharp focus again in the 3rd. Also a game where just how good Finn is was very evident. We have a lot of speed, great passing, and depth across all lines. First years played very well too. Only complaint was a few foolish penalties by upperclassmen who should know better. Unless we start believing our press and try to mail in a few games this could really be a fun year...Now if we can only get the sweep. Will be tough as SCSU now knows what they are up against. I expect a real physical game from them tonight in an attempt to slow us down and intimidate:)

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Amen, oldtimer, great points, St Cloud didn't get out of their own end for over two minutes to start the game, it was fantastic. Beautiful pass by Bortkowski to Wilson for a tap in, then Peterson scores two minutes later. 2-0 after one was pretty indicative of the play.

St Cloud had to respond in the second and they did. Scoring and outshooting us 15-6, I was pleased to still be leading 2-1 after two but a little less confident.

In the third we played fundamentally solid again, limiting chances, Baun scores, we never looked back. We were the better team last night.

I wonder why we always seem to play worse in the second period, this almost always happens ? Too many PIMS, Spiro three minors. In our three powerplays we had zero shots on goal, we lost the faceoff battles badly, our penalty kill was great, keeping everything to the perimeter

Everyone contributed, happy for Peterson(first goal), Panowych fit right in. Joe Wilson is going to have a banner year, playing with Bortkowski and Murphy, speed kills, they fly.

With BC, Providence, and North Dakota getting upset last night we are #2(or better) in the nation for a day, what happens tonight ?

Re: Colgate 2014-15

We would be #2 if we tie or win tonight. And things could get really interesting if RPI takes out MN on Sunday, how great would it be to have the first home game of the season be the first that we have ever been ranked #1. But as many people have said polls are for fans and don't mean anything, you have to win the games. They played lights out in the first, as everyone has said. I was surprised to see the FACEOFF numbers, as we had more of the possession you lose focus on that.

No matter what happens tonight lets remember that most of us said we would be content with a split in St Cloud so it has already been a good weekend

Re: Colgate 2014-15

A Husky fan's perspective: Your view of the game was exactly the same as mine, watching it live from 10 rows off the ice. St. Cloud is a poised, veteran team with plenty of speed, and Colgate dominated the first period. Our "new" goaltender Charlie Lindgren (saw action in 10 games as a freshman last year) did well to keep the score 2-0 in that period. Second period the home team came back strong, but your goalie Finn was excellent. The only criticism of your team would be the penalties--most of them unnecessary--but SCSU only scored on one of PP's.

Colgate seemed to be the more physical team. One of the unknowns with SCSU is the defense. For the most part, the Huskies played OK defensively, but I would think one of the pairings will be split up tonight. Our "star quality" guy, forward Mike Brodzinski, was frustrated and didn't have a grade-A game. That seldom happens two games in a row, so watch #22 tonight. SCSU hasn't been swept much at all for the past 3 seasons, so tonight will be a challenge for the Raiders.

But with their performance last night, Colgate certainly has a good shot at a sweep. SCSU has played quite a few Eastern teams in the past, and your team looked at least as good--if not better--than Quinnipiac and Union looked in the past two years.

It is really hard to be critical of the ECAC and East Hockey (the evil Western Bias) when you see those teams in person. Good luck (well, NOT tomorrow!) the rest of the way. Colgate looked very much like a team that should be in the top 5 in the nation.
