Re: Colgate 2013-14

Just do what we've been doing, can't wait, I still think Finn will be the difference.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Time to see if the bye week and extra rest was worth it.
We need to keep the Careys, Bayreuther and Baker in check. Also not sure which Weninger will show up: brick wall or sieve? We sure ran into one against Harvard and need to shoot high.
Good Luck, Colgate.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Shabby posted this near the start of this thread, on August 27 of last year:

Should be a very interesting year, we'll find out very quickly. It still irks me that we missed out on Zalewski as Joey Wilson is his best friend and dad said we never gave him much of a look !

Maybe it's a good thing we didn't pursue Mike Zalewski, since he just bolted for the pros with two seasons left of eligibility. Also, he was undrafted.

Go 'Gate, beat the Saints!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

...and we win Game 1, 2-1! I believe this is the first time we have won Game 1 in a playoff series against the Saints.

Tomorrow night won't be easy, as SLU will be playing for its season. Just keep doing all the little things right, one shift at a time. Don't take the foot off the accelerator. I'm sure there are some RPI fans that can relate to that.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Great win for 'gate again tonight, Finn has been playing like a top 5 goalie in the country. He is unbelievable. Let's get the win tomorrow night and head up to Placid!

Looking way ahead...

Also, I was thinking earlier how much does Union have to play for in placid? They will have locked up a one seed and will be in the East. Also, they have won the last two ECAC championships so I think they have their eyes on winning the ncaas, may not be focused in lake placid. We'll see.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

With the win Colgate moves into 13th in PWR, putting all four ECAC home seeds temporarily above the bar.

The tie between cornell and colgate probably wont be there at the end of the season as one team will probably lose one more game than the next but the RPI tie-breaker makes no sense in this situation. Colgate would "win" the pairwise against cornell, and won the head to head. As i said this argument is pointless, but defies logic.

As far as the game goes tonight, a good first five minutes and a sloppy last 55. Finn stood tall and carried the rest of the game. Hopefully we will make this easy on ourselves and win tomorrow night.

Wow, that St. Cloud loss hurt our Pairwise went from 13 to 15 with one OT loss. I guess we just need to continue to win and take care of business

PWR Update: March 15, 2014

We are tied for 13th in the Pairwise. After tiebreakers, however, it puts us in 15th. However, barring any upset conference champions, we would be the last team in if today was selection day. Fortunately, we can still climb higher in the PWR if a series of events go our way:

-We need to win tonight. Let's finish off the Saints and not put ourselves in a do-or-die situation. A loss tonight doesn't end our season, but it puts us on the bubble and makes things more difficult for us.
-Minnesota did us a HUGE favor, defeating Michigan in OT on their home ice yesterday. They need to do it again tonight. A Michigan win, and the Wolverines will leapfrog us.
-UMass Lowell also did us a favor, with its come-from-behind win against Vermont. They also need to win again tonight, as it would effectively end Vermont's season. If the Catamounts win, they stay ahead of us.
-We want Northern Michigan to defeat Minn. State Mankato tonight. That would give us another PWR comparison win.
-Lastly, Clarkson must defeat Cornell tonight. If Cornell wins, they pull even in the "record vs. common opponents" category and would reclaim the PWR comparison with us, even though we went 1-0-1 against the Big Red this year.

And while we're at it, these games won't really affect our positioning, but we would also like Ferris State, Quinnipiac, Bowling Green, and St. Cloud State to all win tonight.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Rainman you do a good job on the PWR, but I have a question. If we win tonight and Cornell wins tonight, why would they win the COP comparison. I don't understand.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Very interesting, what a turn of events, RPI has lost two very good players for next year with Haggerty leaving also.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Two different games last night, we looked like the Blackhawks in the first, crisp passing, two great PP goals in the first five minutes, looked like we would have our way with the Saints again. The second period the Saints played better, but a fairly even period. Even though we outshot them in the third I thought we were hanging on by the skin of our teeth.

Finn was probably the difference but Wenninger played outstanding for SLU. Saints PP is outstanding. Carey is snakebit right now, missed a breakaway and several other good scoring chances, I sure hope that continues as he is great.

This series is far from over, tonight will be a barnburner. Nervous !

If both Colgate and Cornell win tonight, both teams would have a "dead-even" record vs. common opponents. We would still have the H2H comparison, but Cornell would have the RPI comparison. So the individual PWR comparison between 'Gate and Cornell would be tied 1-1, but the RPI is the tiebreaker, giving Cornell the comparison win.

Remember, their game with UMass was cancelled, which actually helps us. If Cornell had won that game, they'd win the PWR comparison with 'Gate (but we would still be 15th in the PWR, but not tied for 13th).

CHN says we're 13-6-2 and Cornell 12-6-3. With wins tonight we're 14-6-2 and Cornell is 13-6-3, so our pct is still better. I still don't understand.

I agree with shabby on this one. If we are winning the record versus common opponents right now and we both add 1 win, we should still be ahead of them. The only way that they can catch us is if we lose a game. You have to factor into account that they have played SLU as well so our win gets factored into the Common Opponents.

I am the worst abuser of scoreboard watching (was at the game last night using the CHN app during the game to see other results), all we can do is focus on winning. The team has put itself in a good/bubble position (one in which any of us would have taken at the beginning of the season). And hell, if we focus on winning, we wont even have to focus on the Pairwise come next Sunday!
