Re: Colgate 2013-14

Just playing with the predictor over lunch (what fun) ........ 'Gate can make it in with a loss on Friday a few ways .... One way I like is Cornell beats Quinnipiac , Lowell > UNH, No Dakota > Denver, Minnesota > Wisconsin and Ferris St > Bowling Green. But as Al would say to his Raiders ... "Just Win Baby!" on Friday.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

...plus, we are the higher seed! We had a better conference season than them!
That is something that I have to keep telling myself - that Colgate played both Quinnipiac AND Union better than most! It's almost surreal. Q & U were expected to be here while Colgate was not and, admittedly, I thought the same.

I can't pick the playoffs just yet. I know what my heart says but I hate being disappointed as is often the case in this tournament! We have surpassed expectations and I am hoping for the storybook ending. The competition is deserving as well. They are phenomenal teams. Even as the #2 seed, I feel like the underdog. Does anyone feel the same?! Qpac is 24-8-6...that means they have not lost 30 games this season :-0 Peca, Anas and Garteig will keep our hands full!

Ranked #14...and proud to be the #2 seed!
Good Luck, Colgate!
CU in Lake Placid!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The bigger sheet is our friend, also, we get last change every shift being the "Home" team hence better matchups.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Should be some great hockey this weekend! I'm not a huge fan of Olympic ice but as Shabby says it might be a good fit for our team. We did OK on it at Minnesota, didn't we?:)

One thing I love about this team is our depth at forward. That's been a concern over the past few years but we have a lot of guys who can score. Friday night the Spinks are in on both goals, and Saturday they don't get a point but we still win with Murphy's hat trick. Lots of balance now, whereas in past years if our top line was shut down we had no chance.

Congrats to the team on getting to LP. Looking forward to seeing 2 wins -- we can do it! But it sure won't be easy. Hope a lot of you can make it up there too!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We're 3-1-2 against the teams in Placid this year. By comparison, we were 2-3-1 in 2012 and 1-3-2 in 2011. The only not-so-good part is that the loss is against our semifinal opponent, and that we blew third period leads in both ties.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Someone once said "It all starts with the goaltending", and in the playoffs this fact is magnified. A goalie can absolutely win a series for you. We have a "Finntastic goalie" :)

Check out his numbers for the last nine games, or since the first of the year, I believe he's #2 in the nation in SAA.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

So according to Jim Dahl, who ran over 3 million outcomes for this weekend, we have a 45.4% chance of making the tournament. It drops to 2.1% if we lose Friday, but jumps to 77.1% if we win Friday then lose Saturday.

Of course, this assumes each team has a 50-50 chance of winning, and doesn't take into effect other tools like KRACH. Read more at: http://collegehockeyranked.com/2014/03/17/in-contention-teams-tournament-probabilities/

In other words, just win on Friday.

Haha I like that.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Colgate has an open practice today at 1:30 and 11:15 tomorrow, open to public, other teams also. Might be fun !!

Just a nitpick, those are not the odds of making the tournament, they are the percentage of permutations that give a result. Say I fight a crocodile to the death. In 50% of Dahl's permutations, I advance. However, the real odds of me advancing are somewhat less.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

It also says if we lose Friday night and N Dakota and Northeastern lose we can jump to fourteenth, Northeastern doesn't even play

Re: Colgate 2013-14

My prediction is that Johnston is going to be the difference in the game tomorrow night. I have been impressed with his puck handling skills, especially as a d-man. With the open ice it should be easier for him to get into the offensive zone. If they force us into a lot of dump and chase I will be worried. In many of our losses our problem has been getting into the zone and setting up the pressure.

As far as the pairwise it will all start to get clearer today when Michigan plays penn state at 3. We will also know if there is a realistic chance of making the tournament with no wins as we take the ice because the bowling green game is the early nchc game
