Colgate 2013-14

You got that right Shabby. They should be kissing Finn on the lips for saving their bacon in the 2nd. They seemed to have collectively gone to sleep for about 6 minuets. Glad they played a great 3rd, but that won't cut it next weekend against Q. Should be a great game now that Gate has broken the spell. I think if they get past Q they win the AQ. They're a great road team so this should be fun. Placid is such a great place for hockey. Went up last year for the DIII FF and had a blast. Enjoy my friend.

I agree. The semifinal has been the hump. I think that if they beat QU, we'll beat Union, Cornell or Clarkson.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We want clarkson, cornell is close enough to jump us in the pairwise in LP. Clarkson needs the autobid, so we shouldn't need to worry about them as far as an at large bid. As a rule If they are close to us in the pairwise we want them to lose making it harder for them to jump us if we lose Friday

Re: Colgate 2013-14

If Cornell wins tonight they would not jump us in the PWR, as we already win the common opponents comparison and the head-to-head. But the Big Red are in a position similar to us right now - if they lose tonight OR lose Friday (should they win tonight), their season is over.

We are HUGE UNH fans right now. If they beat Northeastern this afternoon (regardless of how the other games pan out), we climb to 15th in the Pairwise. If Northeastern and NoDak both lose, we climb to 14th (but then the team that is 15th is out without an autobid). We may as well root for Lowell to beat Vermont as well (a Vermont loss won't drop them below us, but then they wouldn't be playing next weekend, and we would have the opportunity to pass them).

The only thing we can control is a win on Friday, which would firmly put us on the good side of the bubble. Also, USCHO will roll out its PWR predictor tool tomorrow, allowing you to further dissect our NCAA tournament chances.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I have to say something, with all our prognosticating," I think it's just GREAT that we are even in the position to do all this speculating". For me right now, I couldn't be happier, for those who haven't been to Placid, you are in for a real treat !! Maybe we should have a meet and greet for all the posters here, I'm in.(even Greencoat) joking.

I wonder if we'll have a block of rooms somewhere for Gate fans, in the past it has been the same hotel as the team !

Correct me if I am wrong, but Cornell winning tonight may not flip any comparisons, but they would still be alive to win in Lake Placid which could change things? Clarkson's out unless they win the tourny.

Pretty sure you're absolutely right. OK I have adopted you as an honorary Gate fan !:)

For anybody that doesn't have rooms, you better get them quick (notice how they jacked the prices in Placid for this weekend)! I was just looking around and most every hotel is booked solid for Friday night. There are a few rooms left at the Crown Plaza, but you're looking at $400+ a night :O

Thank god I only live 40 minutes away and can just drive back and forth ;)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I agree rain, just win Friday and play another (couple of)days. We would need everything to go perfect if we were to lose.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Well, I got what I wanted, a trip to Placid after a eleven year wait !!! Now we need to win against Q-Pac. One thing at a time, just going to savor this for a day !!!

Remember, "It all starts with the goaltending" !!!

Amen! Finn really came up huge with stoning those two breakaways. For me that was the turning point in the game + coming alive in the third period after so-so play in the 1st. SLU can really skate. Just savoring this now; hopefully not to wake up from a dream.

Geez, we have a lot of PWR geeks on this thread ;) Just kidding. Glad to see so many posters really into 'Gate hockey this season. (again...where's GC?)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Do we even know if the PWR we are looking at are correct? Earlier in the year USCHO and chn were different. They have know aligned but food for thpught

Re: Colgate 2013-14

To corroborate what Shabby said, I'm just glad we're talking about Lake Placid on the Sunday of quarterfinals weekend. It's been a while since we swept a playoffs series.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Two big wins already! LOWELL and UNH.....

Looking at the current Pairwise. If North Dakota and Cornell lose we will be 14th in the pairwise with only Western Michigan and UNH in the top 20 (who are behind us) still playing....Were those two to fall in the semis we may be in, is this too simplistic? too easy? too hopeful?.....

I guess this also has to assume that there are only two auto-bids outside of the top 16 (AHA and the NCHC)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

UNH and Lowell both win today. As a result, Vermont and Northeastern (two teams ahead of us in the PWR) will not be playing next weekend, when we will. We now have a golden opportunity to bolster our own Pairwise Ranking.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame upsets BC. The Eagles have suddenly lost 3 of their last 4, all to the Irish on their home ice. Hockey East holds its championship weekend at the TD Garden in Boston. Hockey East has 3 teams that are physically located in Boston, and NONE of them are playing next weekend! Attendance woes? Probably not, since Lowell and Providence are both a short distance away, but still, very odd...

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I did a quick rundown on some situations on the CHN site, and what I figured out is that we are not eliminated with a loss and that there are TRULY REASONABLE ways in with a loss. We are nearly certain (but not 100%) of making it in with a win on the first night. There was a way that if we win the first night and lose the second we dont make it in. (all i remember is that it had something to do with the Bowling Green game)

And there is one situation where the ECAC championship has between QU & Union that does not affect whether either gets in, but would determine which team (colgate or cornell) makes it in.

Neither of those teams will draw, but it doesn't matter since UNH will own the rink unless ND has a presence.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I am not getting many results where we get in if we lose Friday night, going to be tough, however we should have a really good chance to make it if we win Friday (I'd put it at 80 or 85%) sully states he thinks Cornell or Colgate may have to win it all to get in but I don't see that as the most likely outcome. All but upsets everywhere will put us in it seems with a win Friday.

Basically, we are looking for anybody but UNH to win hockey east. It would help if Michigan and Cornell were to lose. Minnesota or Wisconsin should win the BiG so no surprise there and the AHA is only getting one in no matter what.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The key to making it with a loss is bowling green winning and union winning. Then it is almost all chalk. We would also want QU to win ecac title.

It really isn't that outlandish, however we should pretty much know if we can make it with a loss by the time we take the ice.

I say let's just win. I think we have an advantage on the larger ice which gives me confidence, plus (something everyone seems to forget) we are the higher seed! We had a better conference season than them!
