Re: Colgate 2012-13

What happened this afternoon in New Jersey? We're singing a familiar tune here:

2006-07: 0-1-1 after 2 league games, 0-3-1 after 4 league games, finish 8th
2007-08: 0-1-1 after 2 league games, 0-3-1 after 4 league games, finish 8th
2010-11: 0-1-1 after 2 league games, 0-3-1 after 4 league games, finish 12th
2012-13: 0-1-1 after 2 league games, 0-3-1 after 4 league games

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, but this is a young team, and they're still learning. Just seeing us repeat a similar pattern is something that I have a hard time digesting.

On the other hand, the football team is FCS playoff-bound! :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Another set of huge games this weekend(In the ECAC which weekend isn't). Dartmouth is undefeated (beat Union) jumped from non ranked to #12 in the country. I really don't have any expectations but hope we play them tough. Word has it that they are very skilled, Sikura and Robinson their go to guys and they have eleven or twelve guys 6-2 or larger.

Our learning experience with this very young team has begun. Against Q-Pac (5-1 win) and Niagara (who is beating everyone now) I thought we were in for something special. Then outplayed Cornell (swept last weekend) to no avail but we put in two great efforts.

What I'm really confused about is last weekend, outshot 37-10 against the same team we dismantled two weeks earlier ?? Shut out by Princeton the next night 4-0, and and outshot 15-3 in the first period, I wouldn't have believed that could happen one week ago.

The freshman have gone scoreless for a couple of weeks ? Goulakos has something like four goals in last five games, Larkin got the only other goal last weekend. Hope we right the ship in the friendly confines of Starr this weekend. Won't be easy.

Finney played at Princeton...wonder how he looked ?

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I'll reiterate the fact we all knew there would be growing pains, and I think that is what you are seeing so far.

I'm not surprised Quinnipiac turned around and played much better the second time around, especially if they are as good as people seem to think they will be. A road trip against two tough teams, following the almost certain high of the Cornell series, and I'm not terribly surprised they didn't seem that great. Freshmen are going to have to adjust to the collegiate grind, but if they are as talented as it seems, they'll find a way (or at least some of them will). For now, prepare for inconsistency over the next couple of months

But how about that Football team, right guys? :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Agree with recent posts. We have to face it: there are going to be ups and downs these first couple (of) months. Hopefully after the freshmen get more used to the college game - and weekend travel grind - we will see the team improve overall and solve some of the teams we've lost to the first time around. Princeton is suddenly a force with the sweep last w/e. Huh? Not sure what's up with the turnaround in shots and why the frosh have gone silent. Hope it's a natural lull, and not something else brewing.

Seems like Joe Wilson has been "absent" from the games. What's up with his play? I'm sure he's out there giving it his all, but would have expected him to be putting up big numbers by this point.

Hope to see a game "in person" this w/e. Will look for you Friday or Sat night, Shabby. :)

Go football, beat Fordham!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Dartmouth undefeated and #1 in the PWR will be a huge test. I think we can play with anybody, especially at home. Need a W tonight !

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Had a family emergency come up early missed the 1st period. Came back home during the 2nd period, fired up the laptop, only for Dartmouth to score and take a 1-0 lead a few minutes later. Then the video feed froze. Then it comes back and it's apparently 2-0 Dartmouth. Then they score to make it 3-0.

I turn off the video feed, then after about 15 minutes decide to watch the 3rd period thinking "hey, maybe something good will happen".

And indeed it did. A BIG win tonight for the Raiders. First league win, a win over a previously undefeated team. And let's not forget we lost to this same team on our home ice last year after taking a 4-1 lead. This time it was our turn to get the come-from-behind win!

Also we've distanced ourselves from the 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2010-11 teams in this manner:

2006-07 and 2007-08: First league win in league game #6
2010-11: First league win in league game #16
2012-13: First league win in league game #5

It won't get easier tomorrow with Harvard coming to town but for now, we've righted the ship.

If they go out and put in a strong game with Harvard, then this was a statement game. 4-1 down with 12 minutes left, and they don't give in. Heads up in the last 10 seconds too to crash the net for the game-winner, I was figuring overtime.

My question would be, I didn't see the whole exchange, but who was mouthing off to pick up the bench minor? If it were something like too many men, they would announce that. Since it was just announced as a bench minor, and the box score has it as unsportsmanlike conduct, I'm guessing someone was giving the referee too much lip.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Great great win against a very good team. It was a player on the bench who got the call not Vaughan...all I know.

After Mihalik was replaced at 4-1 we were a different team, we completely dominated the third period, couldn't believe the game winner with three seconds left !!!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Amazing game! Robbie Bourdon, with the hat trick, picked a great night to show his stuff. Deja vu all over again with last year's D'mouth game and the Cornell game. This has to give the players confidence that they can play with anyone.

Was my first game at Starr. Very impressed by the speed of the team - especially the frosh. We were hounding the puck in their end in the first and third periods; seemed like we backed off or went a little soft in the 2nd period. But credit the guys for digging deep and coming out blazing in the thrid. Would like to have been in the locker room before the final stanza.

I thought it was announced as a bench minor by Joe Caprio

Harvard beats Cornell; tough team coming into Starr tonight.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

It was a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, very rare but these do happen. Natural inclination is when you hear bench minor you assume it's for too many men on the ice unless there's an obvious yelling match between a coach and referees or something along those lines.

All I can say is that something indeed was said by a player and that it led to a penalty.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

From my vantage point in the stands, it appeared as though the ref had pointed directly at Vaughn when he signaled for the bench minor. Now, could that be because he just happened to be standing where the ref pointed, sure, but we assumed it had been Vaughn, especially since he was audibly upset with some of the calls (or non-calls) that were being made (we could hear him yelling on the other side of the ice...).

Definitely an exciting game, and hopefully they can follow it up tonight against Harvard. Wonder if we will see Mihalik or Finney tonight in goal....

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Guys, how has your video feed been? I'm debating about shelling out the $5.95 to watch tonight's game.

Thanks.

Can't talk about the video quality, but don't bother tonight:

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Disappointed that there was no video stream for the game tonight, but hey -- it's a 4-point weekend! Congratulations to Spencer Finney on his first collegiate shutout!

I can't believe my reverse psychology actually worked on Pick 'Em. I'm picking us to get swept every weekend from now on.
