Re: Colgate 2012-13

And they are missing 6 starters unless some of the injured have healed. I know Ben Sexton is out for a month. The others I am not sure of. Anyway Clarkson has not won a game against Atlantic Hockey this year yet they have beaten Yale (on the road) and Princeton (at home) and tied Brown (on the road) and lost to Quinny (at home). So go figure. Colgate better show up because Clarkson will be ready no matter who plays.

I have great fear of the Golden Knights from back in the early-mid 60's with their great teams that frequently manhandled 'Gate. But as much as I fear the skaters I also tremble at the thought of the band :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Another recruit for next year G Charlie Finn from Kingston OJHL very good numbers.

The band will be there. :D

Video highlights from last Friday's sister-kisser vs. Merrimack can be found here:

As far as this upcoming weekend goes, Friday will be a challenge without Robbie Bourdon. SLU has historically struggled at Starr Rink but until last season found ways to win there. Stopping Greg Carey and Kyle Flanagan will be huge. Clarkson, meanwhile, always puts up a good fight against us, even though they haven't won in Hamilton since the 2006-07 season. In fact, we've won our last 3 home tilts vs. the Knights.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Last home hockey until after Xmas and I'm looking forward to it. Two wins would be tremendous and I'm really thinking it's possible. These are must win games for potential top four playoff seedings. I think we see Finney in goal...he's like #9 nationally now with 1.69 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

Austin Smith has seven goals in ten games after being sent down to the ECHL...Chris Wagner has two goals playing for Norfolk in the AHL.

These are certainly two games we can -- and should -- win if we are going to position ourselves for the top four. There's nothing easy on the future schedule, that's for sure. Kind of scares me tonight going without Bourdon. Hope some guys will really step up.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Tough game that from the start I knew we were in trouble. The defense hung Finney out to dry twice and SLU capitalized on both opportunities. We had our chances, rang "four" shots off the pipe, and outshot them two to one. One of those games catching virtually no breaks.

Finney played very well, seemed like Slu had alot of quality shots, Wenninger made some incredible saves, it just wouldn't go in for us.

I was impressed with the discipline of SLU, no nonsense after the play, just hockey. On the other hand, Spink got "another" ten minute misconduct and sat the last half of the third. This has got to stop...it's hurting us, we are one of the most penalized teams in all of D1 hockey. (No Bourdon or Spink for the last ten minutes)

SLU is well coached, disciplined, and as good a team as I've seen this year. We could have won but didn't, go forward and beat Clarkson today !

SLU also had a very good following with them.

BTW....Kotyra is a fool that can be intimidated ! In the third he put his whistle away then started calling penalties on Gate after Spink ticked him off. Called a nitpick penalty with 2:30 left in the game :D We'll probably have him tonight too(4:00).

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Last night was just one of those nights. Let's just put it behind us and focus on Clarkson now.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Four pipes! Outshot them 2-1! Listened to game. GR seemed to call it just as you stated, Shabby. Got to eliminate the penalties as you say. The misconducts and 5x3 are really hurting us, to say nothing of missing Boudon. Maybe Cornell has softened up the Golden Knights for us, but I doubt it. Both teams will be desperate for a win tonight. Now we have to deal with the Clarkson band as well :)

Eeek! Q-pac is undefeated in ECAC play and handed Union a 4-0 loss last night.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Another sloppy game, but this time we win.

Don't know what's wrong with Mihalik. He's given up 8 goals in his last 80 or so minutes of action. While he showed signs of success towards the end of the 2010-11 season, it's a clear-cut fact that Spencer Finney is playing better than him right now.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Yes, sloppy game, very choppy. Got to give Clarkson credit for coming back from 3-1, but we went to sleep there for a time. Got to give us credit for hanging in there, coming back and winning. If we had played the entire game like the first 10 minutes of the third period, it would have been a much easier win. We dominated keeping the puck in their end for minutes at a time.

Good to pick up the 2 points and maybe jump ahead of a couple of teams in the standings.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

We came out hard and Clarkson seemed much slower, thought we pretty much dominated them in the first period, somehow it was 1-1 after one with Michalik giving up what I thought was a soft goal.

Went up 3-1 in the second and it looked like the rout was on. Then in a three minute period Clarkson scored three goals, just banging away crashing the net , hard work goals. Mihalik was replaced with about 5 minutes left in the second and we were down 4-3.

I don't know what it is but we seem to play better with Finney in goal, Larkin tied it on a five on three and there would be no more scoring for Clarkson. From the time Finney entered the game we only allowed (three) shots on goal, about thirty minutes !! Shots in OT were 6-0.

We got a win but it wasn't easy, powerplay was 3-6 which is impressive. Goulakos played great on the PP with two goals and has a very dangerous shot. Take away the three minutes we allowed three goals and it's a different game "but" it's still a learning process for these very talented frosh.

Much more disciplined last night and the officiating was better. Just happy we won as it was a hard game to watch.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Well, it looks like the team is off to a pretty solid start considering we lost not only our top two scorers but two of the leading scorers in the nation. With such a huge percentage of frosh growing pains are bound to crop up. That said, the level of competitiveness seems to be high as the freshman class is contributing right away. I am cautiously optimistic and look forward to seeing what happens next . . .

Re: Colgate 2012-13

The frosh are great and I think it only gets better going forward !! BTW....This goalie recruit for next year is being talked about like he's a superstar. Name is Finn.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Two tough games this weekend...UMass has beaten #1 UNH and lost to BC in OT and one goal

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Hmmmm..Was it something I said or maybe my breath ? This has turned into the Shabby...Colskate...Rainman thread. I almost wish the parents posters of last year's senior class appeared...NOT !

Not much to say as we wait for the two-game set with UMASS to become history. Depending on what happens with those games our two with SH may be a good time to try out some new combinations of give our goalies a breather.

Watched the Dartmouth-VT game on Wed. night. The Big Green continue to impress. Most of their team is underclassmen but I think they will go far this year.

Yes, Shabby, wish there were more posters here this season, even if we disagree with them. Where are some of our regulars like Magoo?

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I'm here Colskate. Must have been a fun game to watch tonight -- 6-4 win with 3 PPGs. I'm dying to see this team play -- I think they come out here to the Capital District in early Jan. Can't remember getting this much offense from a freshman class. And Goulakas may be the PP quarterback we've been looking for since Cory Murphy.

Now if we can just get some reliable goaltending..,

I guess we're just the 3 most dedicated followers/USCHO posters of the Colgate hockey program!

Didn't get to see/listen to tonight's game but good to hear we won. Sounded like it got dicey in the 3rd but still, it's a win. Also our first road win of the season! I'll be trekking out to Amherst to see tomorrow night's game. Hoping the positive vibes/results continue...

Hopefully tomorrow we can do something for the first time since 06-07.
