Colgate 2012-13

Re: Colgate 2012-13

A great weekend for the boys hopefully learning "how to win". Now we've beaten the top three teams in the ECAC (standings only not forgetting about Union". Has Finney won the starting job...he looks pretty good. Price has stepped it up, looks tremendous and Larkin is gaining confidence in rushing the puck. Good to see we can win some low scoring games. It all starts with the goaltending.

Now hoping we can get a home playoff game on the ESPNU selection show at 1:30, looks doubtful as I've seen some "potential playoff brackets" has us going to E Kentucky. Thanksgiving, Merrimack game on FCS Friday, home football Saturday would be outstanding !

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Congrats to Spencer on his first shutout, and kudos to the team on a "sweep" weekend against some of the best teams in ECAC. I say again: this team can stay with - and beat - any team in the country when playing up to its potential.

Agreed. This year we might see some growing pains, but the next 2-3 years should be fun. I'm thinking the Class of 2016 will take us on a fun ride throughout its time at Colgate.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Spencer will definitely be starting for at least the next few games if Vaughn is smart, which he is. He is playing great right now but remember its only been 1 game + a period he's been in net so you can't get too excited yet. I was behind the bench last night and Mihalik is more worried about his hair than anything else.

On another note can somebody please tell me why that building is always so cold. Other arenas are not nearly as cold as that place.

I'm not an expert, but I would think it is to keep the ice hard, and in the best shape. I know that the humidity in MSG and the Boston Garden used to cause a fog to develop and even delay games. Not that it would happen in Hamilton, however I'm sure the authorities are wary of it being too warm in the building. It shouldn't be a problem for you: just wear an extra sweater under your coat :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Video highlights from Friday's comeback win over Dartmouth can be found here:
http://ecachockey.com/men/video/index

You have to scroll through the list of videos, but it's there.

Spoke too soon. A better video of the game-winning goal from last Friday can be seen here:

Also, this Friday's game vs. Merrimack can be viewed locally on WBIN in the Boston television market (most of eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire) and nationally on FCS Pacific. Why FCS Pacific, I don't know. Source: http://www.gocolgateraiders.com/news/2012/11/19/MHOCKEY_1119121317.aspx

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I have some badnews about the football game. You "cannot" watch it on tv...even though it says ESPN3. You "can" watch it only on your computer only ! I was on the line with Time Warner for an hour today, however, I called Biddle's office and it's only on the computer. I will be getting the liinks emailed to me soon and tell you where to find it. They said the first two rounds are not televised, I don't get it.

Hockey vs Merrimack is on Fox Sports Channel 235 at four pm Friday.

Anything that is listed as ESPN3 is "online exclusive content". You can watch the game online at watchespn.com.

As for Friday's game vs. Merrimack, it is now on FCS Atlantic instead of FCS Pacific (this change makes sense).

Also, check out this article written by Jaime Heilbron on Bleacher Report. Jaime wrote articles related to the Colgate hockey team for the Colgate Maroon-News, and he was also the student manager for the hockey team from the 2008-09 through 2011-12 seasons.

Happy Thanksgiving! Safe travels to anyone on the road these next few days.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

No new posts for the last 48 hours? Am I the only one here because of the holiday weekend? Well today I made the trip up to North Andover, MA to take in the Merrimack game, and even though it ended in a draw, this is still a team that can skate with any team in the country. Joe Wilson found the back of the net (looks like he's finally coming around this year), and Spencer Finney had another great performance between the pipes. He was even named 1st star of the game!

Unfortunately, it wasn't all good. We had some trouble staying out of the penalty box, but the penalty killers were up to the task. However, an 0 for 3 effort on the power play wasn't promising either. Oh, and Robbie Bourdon gets a 5-minute major for kicking? Then he gets slapped with a game DQ which means he'll miss next Friday's game against SLU. Ughhh.

Despite all this it was still a good game to watch though.

Watching on TV, it was a definite kick. Does the ECAC do supplemental discipline? Because that would be a maneuver that would cost you some games (as in more than 1). If he got slapped with a match penalty then they might have nailed him for intent to injure.

In any event, Spencer Finney should get the start on Friday night, and if there was a goaltender controversy, he may end it on Friday. 0 goals allowed in almost a period of work against Dartmouth, shutout against Harvard, only 1 goal allowed today, that's 1 in about the last 143 minutes. I think there's no question that Vaughan is going to ride the hot hand against St. Lawrence, and if Finney puts up another performance like this, then he might be the #1 for the rest of the season.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Thought we played pretty well overall. we were much faster. Finney is looking very good, stopped a couple of point blank chances. Undisciplined play prob was the difference last night...man down for seven minutes in the second alone. We seem to wear down opponents in the third period this year. We're coming !!

Penalty kill has been simply outstanding !

Re: Colgate 2012-13

A tie is a tie. Heard it was a real physical game. Not good news about Bourdon. Not having him for half of Silver Puck w/e is disheartening.

FB starts soon. Read on AGS that it might be carried on NECFrontrow.com for those that can get it. It's a windy, cloudy day here in NYC. Hope our Mac attack will survive heavy winds and bring home a win.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Bump to the first page. (Is everyone sleeping after the turkey?)

What are posters thoughts on the upcoming SLU and Clarkson games - it's Silver Puck w/e.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Looking forward to seeing SLU with Carey and Flanagan, a tough game. Don't know too much about Clarkson except they're weak in goal.

And they are missing 6 starters unless some of the injured have healed. I know Ben Sexton is out for a month. The others I am not sure of. Anyway Clarkson has not won a game against Atlantic Hockey this year yet they have beaten Yale (on the road) and Princeton (at home) and tied Brown (on the road) and lost to Quinny (at home). So go figure. Colgate better show up because Clarkson will be ready no matter who plays.
