Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Holding my tongue as well,... however here is the 'Perfect Storm' scenario: Yale is so looking ahead to Cornell they overlook us, and we win. Brown is so tired out and demoralized from the 11-1 thrashing in Ithaca, they can't keep up with us, and we have renewed confidence after beating #6 Yale....:)

It is doable....let's go guys!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Naysayers...Go Awayyyyy !! This is for Colgate hockey fans only !!

We tied Yale and outshot them in New Haven...why not at Starr ???

Shabby, I;m with you. WE, as the sum of all our parts, have grown very quickly on the back end, considering all the Freshman.
The goaltending appears to be headed in a positive direction, even with the two losses, Evin continued to be strong.
The PP needs a boost, but overall we see some brightness in the depth of scoring.
While we had as a team, a poor showing in our last game, we were likely due, and did leave with 2 points coming home for three games in 5 nights.
We have also suffered from a number of injuries this year, and still have players playing through challenges.
Overall, I'm happy with what we have accomplished with so many new recruits, and we should be happy with our position in the standings currently.
Let's cheer this team on, and stay positive with what we can still achieve.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Oops...my bad ! We were ahead 3-1 at one time though. Ok..so we're def the dog's here, well I believe we can do it, please, no negativity here. If you have nothing positive to say, please go to another thread, believe me, I have lived(and died) with this team since around 1962. It gets very difficult at times. Please don't make it harder than it is already. Go Gate !!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

It's all right in front of us - 3 games in a row at home. Go win them.

Will anyone be happy with a split this weekend? I won't. Neither should anyone else.

Bill, people don't like your posts because what you say is 100% true and deep down they know it. Say what you want. It's a free country last I checked.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I see Tchr "Benedict Arnold" Bill has thrust his knife in Colgate's back again on the weekely ECAC Pick 'em thread...

With boosters like Bill, who needs naysayers?.....

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Folks, you can be a fan and still maintain objectivity and my sense has always been that this is a forum where the two should co-exist. I've been a fan since my first game as a freshman at Starr Rink in November, 1968 when John Dandy took on several SLU players in a 4-1 loss. I remain cautious (as do several others) because the team's body of work this year supports this conclusion. And, yes, I'd be delighted (believe me) if we finish 12-9-1 or better in the ECAC by year's end. There remains among us, however, a sense of frustration in the program's increasing propensity to come up short time and time again against quality opponents.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

There's nothing wrong with anyone saying what's on his or her mind. That's what these forums are all about, aren't they?

We'll have to go at least 5-2 to get a bye. 4-1 at home, 1-1 on the road. A sweep this weekend would sure help (it's probably a must).

Yale should be ready to go Friday night. I don't think they'll be looking ahead. By the same token we should come out strong on Friday as well, following the clunker last Saturday.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I'm thinking about a visit to Starr for the regular season finale v. Union, to check out this "Curse" stuff personally. I imagine it could be senior night also. Should I plan on buying tix in advance or might they likely be available for walk up purchase. Also, what' s a good estimate of driving time from the Albany area?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

We've only sold out recently against Cornell, so tickets will be there. Roughly two hours tops for the 90 mile or so hike. Lot's of small towns on rte 20, thruway to Albany is 90 miles, then down rte 12b 30 miles more thru towns. Either way around two hours I guess.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

If, you naysayers ever come to any games(do you) please sit with the students. You are starting to act like them !

Shabby's correct: 1 1/2 to 2 hrs from the Albany area, depending on where you live. You can get a General Admission tix for $6 and a reserved seat on the opposite side - with chair backs - for $12. You might want to call the athletic ticket office if you have a desired reserved section you want to request, but there are usually some seats available at game time. Should be no trouble obtaining a GA ticket on the bleacher-style benches; they will be located behind the Union bench.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Uh-oh. Brian Sullivan is picking us to go 1-2 in this 3-game home stretch. (And at the same time, is picking Cornell to go 3-0.) The same thing is happening in the ECAC Pick 'em thread. I'd like to prove those naysayers wrong, but ...

I regret to say that I'm not quite 100% optimistic right now. Yale has scored eleven (11) goals in their last two games at Starr Rink, Brown found a way to decisively defeat us at Starr last season despite us usually manhandling the Bears on our home ice, and Cornell ... well, just look at our most recent games against the Red at Starr Rink:

2008-09: 4-1 loss when we outshot them 41-18
2007-08: 3-1 loss, Cornell's 2nd goal with 2:36 left in regulation (3rd goal an empty-netter)
2006-07: 4-2 win (the only time I've ever seen 'Gate defeat Cornell since I started following Colgate hockey, our 4th goal was an empty-netter with exactly 1 second remaining)
2005-06: 3-2 loss (Cornell's 3rd goal scored with 39 seconds left)
2004-05: 1-0 loss (lone goal scored by Cornell with 1:33 left in regulation)

As you can see, the best home crowd of the year is almost always sent home disappointed :(, and even worse, we'll surrender the game-winning goal within the final 3 minutes of regulation.

I'm hoping this year will be different, but we'll just have to wait and see. One game at a time boys, absolutely NO looking ahead. Right now the focus is on Yale, another talented team (and we need to avenge that loss last year that really made me not want to even hear the word "hockey" for almost a week  )

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

We've won 11 out of 27 games, 3 of which were against Clarkson (2) and Dartmouth. Please. I don't look for negativity, but my opinions are valid and don't warrant attacks or criticism just because they're different and don't conform. Naysayers. Don't sit here, sit there. Go Awaaaaay. Debbie Downers. You guys take the cake. I respect your posts but hardly take these last remarks seriously.

Like many on the pick 'em thread, I think we'll go 1 for 3 and beat Brown. I guess we're all unrealistic and clueless. Doesn't mean I don't want us to win more and if we do, all the better. But if we don't, I wouldn't say I told you so.

These cliches would not be cliches if they were not true. Even a subconscious feeling that 'Gate might go 1-3 this w/e could have implications on the psyches of the players and coaches. I respect the thoughts of you naysayers, but let's keep a positive outlook on this thread. Imagine the bulletin board material that the Yale/Brown/Cornell players & coaches are reading with these recent posts...:(

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

This thread used to bring positive attitudes and opinions etc of our players and playoff hopes and maybe a little insight on the teams coming in...how we match up and maybe some pertinent info. Now it's "I don't see us winning" ..."They haven't shown me anything"..."We're no better than a 500 club"...You're missing the whole point ! Is the glass "half empty or half full"? BTW...We've only lost 11 of 27 games !!

Thank you, Shabby !!! As someone that doesn't get to many games now and writes few posts; I love the thread/forum as a way to stay "connected" to the team I root for. At 11-11-5: The glass is AT LEAST (AND ALWAYS WILL BE) half full. Another cliche: "Hope springs eternal in the human breast." -Pope (I think). Everyweekend is an opportunity to get four points; and that's how I'm gonna play it. Even if it is in-a-just-for-fun Pick 'em contest ! I called out TchrBill earlier in the year for picking against the Raiders; and I'll do it again. I don't applaud him for being so high in Rainmain's contest, because to my quick recall he's only picked Colgate to win four (maybe five) games this year. How well could he be doing, if he picked them more often.
How can one be a fan of a team and so consistently pick against them?

I hear ya' Maine-iac. Bill is what you call a 'frontrunner.' Winning a meaningless contest (with apologizies to Rainman) means more to him than boosting his "favorite" team.

On another note, Winch had an assist last night in the Sens 6-5 win over the Capitals. Ottawa is on a roll and taken over first place from Buffalo. Jesse got in about 9 minutes+ playing time...good news. The Senators resurgance coincides with Jesse coming back off the DL...:)

You don't have to apologize to me. And no, it's not my contest. I just took over the score-keeping duties and started the thread for those who wanted to pick games as early as Monday.

I called out TchrBill earlier in the year for picking against the Raiders; and I'll do it again. I looked into this back in November when I noticed he was picking against us (no offense, TchrBill, I honestly think you're using reverse psychology here as well as putting yourself in a win-win situation). Had he picked Colgate to win in every game, he would actually have 1 less total point in the standings. So he gained a point by picking against us several times. I'm not going to complain, as even other posters pick against their team (even last year I picked against us at times) thinking logically that their team pulling out the victory is in fact a "tall order." But then when an upset occurs and it's your team that wins with you picking them, it's all to your benefit.

Tonight's game is just as HUGE as next Tuesday's game. Yale and Cornell both have very similar records (both overall and in league play), and well as similar strengths of schedule. In fact, Yale defeated Cornell earlier in the season and is on a 4-game winning streak vs. the Red. I honestly hope the team is focusing solely on Yale until after the final buzzer sounds tonight.

I'll be watching online tonight. Let's go 'Gate!!!!!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Let's all take a step back here. No need to pick on Bill, who's been a solid poster and a Colgate supporter in the short time I've been here

These kinds of conversations are going to happen when a team sits at .500. The glass truly is half-full and half-empty. We all choose to interpret that in different ways, but really it comes down to measuring results against our expectations, which admittedly shifts as the season progresses

We are not a radical fanbase. Expressing pessimism about Colgate's chances hardly equates to real defeatism of a "fire-the-coach"/"the-school-doesn't-care"/"we'll-never-win-anything" mentality. That's not what we are, and I don't even see that from the pessimists here. No need for a thread civil war, that shouldn't be our style

The team is .500 and inconsistent. There's plenty of evidence for both optimism and pessimism, so let's not confuse real argument with name-calling. I'm not sure yet where we stand, as the team's inconsistent play makes it hard to feel great about their chances. Still, as shabby and others (like myself) have pointed out, the schedule sets up favorably, and I've seen nothing to suggest we can't win these remaining games

One game, whether tonight, tomorrow, or Tuesday, will not make or break this season. For now, all things remain possible (in both directions)
