Re: Colgate 2009-2010
...it appears we've gone back to the small speedy prototype.
Yeah, we looked kinda' small out there tonight, except for Carty.
I got there late in the second. Quick notes:
Didn't see Day.
Poplawski put in the final goal with a shot a few feet inside the blue line.
Bartliff had one shift in the third where he was everywhere -- nearly scored, stole the puck more than once, singlehandedly kept play in the Waterloo zone for 20-30 seconds.
The third Waterloo goal looked like a softie. I was way down on the other end, but there was a scramble to the right of the net and it looked like Long just didn't get his pad up against the post.
McIntyre was head and shoulders above the rest, IMO.
I can't comment on the rest of the game or players, but we really didn't look great, especially on the PP. (Are we going to be !@*^!%@!! anemic in that department AGAIN this year?). Waterloo is...whoever they are. This should not have even been a contest. Sheesh, one of their kids even wiped out during warmups doing a basic crossover coming around his net. Midway through the third it was 5-3 Colgate and Waterloo was buzzing on a 5 x 3. Long was wayyy out of position -- all one Waterloo player had to do was throw the puck at the net and it's 5-4 with ten minutes left.
Too close. We have a lot of work to do, and fast.
Student section was actually full, but dead silent. Ugh. All these frosh coming in thinking, "OK, hockey is the big sport at Colgate. Let's go to the game! Oh, here we are at the rink and I hear crickets chirping. Mental note: find something more fun to do on weekend nights this winter." Grown-up side of the rink had maybe 30 people.
