Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Our pal Radio's definitely been busy...broadcasting the last two victories of our still-undefeated gridiron gang. Nice job :)

Yeah, it's been a busy few weeks between doing football, recording interviews for Raider Vision (GoColgateRaiders.com), doing PA for a handful of field hockey games and putting together the Coaches Show (no need to use the full tounge-twisting name here). Two more weeks of football for me on All-Access vs. Fordham and Cornell and then that rolls right into hockey season the week following the game with the Red.

FYI, start time change. The Halloween night game with Niagara will now begin at 8:00 PM instead of 7:00 PM. Apparently, some gentleman named Tony Blair (never heard of him) will be speaking on campus that evening. So, people should be able to hit both events - hockey and the former prime minister if they want.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Shill alert coming.

Today, I had a chance to sit down with Coach Vaughan for a video interview that will be on GoColgateRaiders.com at some point before the start of the season. As one might expect, he is very optimistic about the coming season.

Also, Coach Vaughan's bi-weekly radio show returns this season after taking a hiatus last year. The show will air on WKXZ on alternating Tuesday's (more or less) from early October until the end of the season. The show will be broadcast live from the Tap Room at the Colgate Inn at 7:00 PM. The first show will be on October 6th, just two days before the team leaves for the first regular season game against Niagara on October 9. Just a hint, there may be ways another than the radio to listen to the show ;)

Send your questions for Coach Vaughan to RaidersRadioKXZ@gmail.com or cap@colgate.edu (night of the show for this one only please).

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Hey Gate fans,

I'm not sure if any of you followed the College Hockey Championship Belt thread and its offsprings (the New York State Belt).

Since Colgate hasn't posted their media guide online, it was occasionally difficult to find when they lost to D-1 NY teams after getting the belt. Any help you can give me would be great.

Things that I need confirmation on:
first loss of the 90-91 season (at Clarkson (5-2) on 11/16/90?)
first loss after 11/26/94 (vs Clarkson (5-4 OT) on 1/27/95?)
the date of the 6-4 win vs Clarkson in the 95-96 season (1/5/96?)
next loss after said 6-4 win (at Cornell (6-3) 1/20/96?)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
burgie12

Your first three opponents and dates are correct according to my media guide.

The next loss after the win vs. Clarkson on 1/5/96 was actually the following day (1/6/96) to St. Lawrence, 6-5.

Any more questions, let me know, and I'll have my media guide handy.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Hockey this weekend, football team 4-0, PGA tourney at Turning Stone, what a week !!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Our 4-0 football team is now ranked #25 in the nation and McCord is in the top 10 rushers after only two games at tailback !! Sullivan is at #30 rushing and "Gate is #1 in rushing in the nation ! Sullivan is also in the top 15 in Passing Rating for QB's. Quite a finish last Saturday...very strange ending .

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Yeah, Shab, I agree. I've never seen such a bizarre ending. Only thing I can figure is the Rams didn't have enough men on the line of scrimmage to get the last play off, and the official caught it, but didn't stop the clock. Rough ending for Fordham; they have a legitimate beef.

I like your line-up in the "Pick the Standings Contest." Hope all the contestants are underestimating 'Gate this season. Most seem to think we'll be in the lower third. I see us in the middle third, and maybe even the lower half of the top third. Is that clear?....

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I'm not sure if they got the snap off in time or not. I was watching very closely but it was "that close." But...no way were they set to snap the ball. You can't just hike the ball in the middle of a chinese fire drill. There were players running all over the field, including the whole celebrating Gate football team.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

enthusiast -
Middle third: 5-8
Lower half of top third: 3-4

As for FB, why is it that the "instant replay" feature on the scoreboard didn't come to our rescue last Sat? Sure would have been nice to see those last few seconds over again.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Way to go Raider football!

Not a big fan of the night game scenario, and unfortunately the attendance seems to be a bust. Definitely ready for an afternoon win on Saturday against a good Cornell team! Always follow the team to Worcester and this year the Crusaders will show no mercy - Randolph is scary good! Any idea when/if Eachus will return?! Way to have Colon/McCord step up to the plate - and Sully as a talented passer and runner is a great double threat. Simonds is another Luke Graham!

Very optimistic for Raider hockey! ECAC playoffs now in Atlantic City but Colgate fans can barely make it to Albany! Not sure what to think but the ECAC probably played in the worst venue of any league.

Go Gate!
Beat Cornell!

The poor weather the last two home games hasn't helped attendance and more rain is in the forecast for Saturday. The massive downpour right around kick-off this past Saturday probably didn't help. Overall I would call the three night games a success and I wouldn't be surprised to see more night games in the future during the early portion of the schedule in September.

Since there was no TV broadcast of the Saturday game, even a replay of the final sequence on the scoreboard wouldn't have shown the clock. The game wasn't on TV and the webcast didn't have a running clock on it. From what I've read on the message boards, if you're a Colgate fan, the play wasn't in time but if you're a Fordham fan, this is a travesty...so, it is what it is. BTW, Eachus is listed on the depth chart this week as McCord's back-up but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll play.

Atlantic City is Atlantic City and it's only for three years. Who knows what will happen for the tournament in 2014 and beyond. Look at it this way. Where would you want to be in mid-March, in snowy and cold upstate New York fighting the snowy roads to get to Albany or driving down in sunny southern New Jersey where the weather, while not warm, should be halfway decent and there won't be any snow to worry about? If anything, the move is generating buzz and that's exactly what the league wanted. The only buzz about Albany the last few years has been negative.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Just curious Radio...Have you actually talked to Fordham people ? IF....they beat the clock...they were not set to snap the ball. You can't have half of your team running around and just have the center hike the ball to the QB. We would of just declined the illegal formation penalty and the games over ! I heard some Fordham fans crying that there was two seconds on the clock when it was snapped...that's so absurd. IF they beat the clock it was by one tenth of a second at most, I was watching very closely. It was so close I couldn't tell even

As far as AC, anything is better than Albany . Now I will stay overnight rather than drive the 1:45 back and forth ev day. There's enough to do there. I will miss Lombardo's restaurant though.

Just spied on their message boards a little. I do know for a fact that some of their coaches upstairs in the press box were livid, one shouting and screaming as he went to go downstairs.

Really, the onus falls on the referees to blow things dead when the clock hits zero. Fordham does have a right to be upset but had the officials done their job correctly, we wouldn't be talking about this right now.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Have to agree with TchrBill: night games not a favorite of mine. Hope they only have one or none next season. Rain at night in September is as bad as snow in light in November, IMO.

With the ECAC tourney in AC, will that favor Princeton and bring out many more of the Tiger fans? As bad as Albany was, gonna miss Jack's....:(

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

You're ab right Radio....I forgot even I was yelling "The whistle hasn't blown" when the chinese firedrill was going on. If the whistle doesn't blow...isn't it still a live game ?? Then it would have been a penalty though.

Preseason interview with Coach Vaughan recorded last week.

He'll also be on the Colgate Coaches Show this coming Tuesday night from the Tap Room at the Colgate Inn. As I said before, if you don't have a radio, there still may be other ways to hear the show - though it's still not official yet. Send any questions for the coach to RaidersRadioKXZ@gmail.com. He'll be on from 7:00 - 7:30 and then we hope to be joined by INCH Preseason All-American David McIntyre and senior co-captain Ethan Cox.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

'Gate Radio or any others in the know,

1. How do McNamara and Poplawski look, are they both back at 100%?

2. Austin Smith's bio still lists him at high school sophomore weight, can he make it through the season or will the wear and tear be taking its toll again this spring?

3. Who of the new frosh have made the biggest impression? One of our forum contributors indicated Price and Larkin were looking good, any of the young forwards? Other than Long it appears we've gone back to the small speedy prototype. Can they score and last at this level or are we going to get out muscled again this year like we did last? I'd love to see one or more of our guys make the first big legal hit in some games this year. As I recall that happened once in last year's playoffs and set a great tone for the game.

4. Assume Long will start in goal, how do Evin, Besette look? Will they challenge for time?

In typical Colgate coaching fashion, DV's preseason interview on the web site offered absolutely nothing to answer any of these questions...just the generic info about returning players that any fan already knows...

Go Raiders hope we surprise a few teams this year starting with Waterloo tonight..:D

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Here's a nice overview on the season from someone close to the action. Gives us something to look for tonight:

"McNamara and Pop will also be beneficial to the power play. That is something that needs to improve this year. Larkin is a big boy and brings a heavy shot, so I wouldn't be shocked to see 5 goals from him this year.

I think scoring won't be as big of a problem this year - as crazy as it sounds. We have the top four scorers back and I think three of them will have better numbers this year. Austin Smith won't go through that month swoon he had last year; Day appears to be healthy (played injured a lot last year) and I expect Brisebois to hit 10 goals for the first time in his career. Break out player from my perspective - Nick Prockow. There I said it.

The freshman are talented and can skate. Our class is being overlooked in a big way by the pundits. Price looks every bit the part. Bartliff is going to be the interesting one to me. He will have every chance to score.

In goal - hope Long plays like he did at the end of the year. With a full year under his belt and now not known as the guy who has to replace Dekanich ...

We have depth, we have talent, we have skill. The only question is can we replace close to 600 combined games of experience on the blue line that is gone. I think the fact the coaches put us seventh considering we were 10th last year and lost five defensemen says something as to the possibilities. There is a fine line between winning and losing in this leaague. Think about this ... we split with the top dog (Yale) and should have won both if not for a third period meltdown; went 0-1-2 against Cornell and had two 2-0 leads against them last year; lost a pair of overtime games to number three - Princeton. This, despite a lack of scoring and what could be termed a lack of consistency in net for a greater portion of the season."
