Colskate

It's right behind the rink....go out the back door and the boys should be right there !

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I have to admit I'm having a hard time getting excited about Robert Morris this weekend. Yes they beat Miami twice which is very impressive, and they could very well beat us twice. Maybe a half-empty Starr Rink will lull them to sleep.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I concur. Robert Morris visiting Starr Rink does not excite me, even if this is the 1st time since November 21 in which we're playing at home. They won't be easy though (ask Miami), and our undefeated record against them is on the line. Students are back, so hopefully they can give the team some support.

Some interesting statistics:
-We have SEVEN of our remaining 11 league games at home. Should we win all 7 and split our two remaining road trips, we'd have 31 points. That would (based on previous years) give us a 2nd-place finish and a 1st-round bye.
-We're 4-0-1 in Saturday league games. Is this a result of our Saturday opponents being worn out by the Big Red? Or is it the team attempting a 4-pt weekend or avoiding a sweep? Cornell is 4-1-0 in Friday league games. Their one Friday loss is our lone Saturday tie (Yale).
-We're 3-3-1 in league road games. Split on the road, and keep winning at home. At Starr, we're 4-2-2 overall, 3-1-0 against ECAC foes.

This weekend is basically a warm-up for the rest of the conference schedule. If there are any kinks that need to get out of our system, NOW is the time.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Kind of if u win this weekend...no big deal...if u lose, it hurts. Miami outshot them something like 40-15 and 40-20. It was a fluke, it can happen anytime.

I'm just happy to see hockey again after two months, should be a competitive set of games.(Canisius)

It would be nice to get two wins and look good !!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Sullivan's dissing us again in this week's ECAC column. I understand where he's coming from - many of us have echoed the same concerns during the year - but would love to prove him wrong. I continue to wonder if our .890 goalie save percentage is as much a function of several frosh at the back end as it is goalie under performance. I'd also like to see Coach V keep up the line switches before ECAC play starts again (for good) next week...

Kind of makes you wonder if the Miami goalie had his mind elsewhere that weekend and the "D" just never showed up....

(Thanks for the B&G tip shabby; don't know if I'll make it or not.)

Everyone keeps saying Colgate doesn't have a Dekanich or Silverthorn and that is the problem. Interesting to note that coming into this season Long was 3rd all time for Gate in GAA and 4th in saves percentage right behind the two aforementioned goaltenders. And, he has over 1,000 saves despite last year being his only real season of actively starting. So…. D or G, you make the call. It appears that none of the goaltenders can get in a rhythm anyway since the coaches haven't demonstrated confidence in anyone. One multi-goal loss and you are out. Dekanich and Silverthorn never had to deal with that.

Also, expect that the coaches will revert back to their old standard lines for the weekend. Just a hunch since it is what they typically have done. Experiment and revert.

A fluke is something that happens only once, RMU did it twice. Granted, Miami has a history of losing to poor teams during really good seasons i.e. Clarkson last year, but I think you have to give RMU credit. Osterguard's a hell of a goalie and remember it was Levine that made nearly 60 saves against Quinnipiac in an 8-5 win at home when QPac was white-hot.

For intermission stuff this weekend we have the Around the ECAC report plus Sean Carty will be in the Raiders Spotlight this evening talking about oatmeal, bananas and cake (read the program tonight) and then I'll have Matt Nicholson on tomorrow night plus an additional guest. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control the interview with Nick St. Pierre has been postponed but I'm still planning on a former Colgate captain for next week.

4-1 win for the Good Guys! RMU kind of put it to us in the 3rd period, but we hung on for the W. Lots of action in this game. Tomorrow should be another tight one.

Now we're back to .500. Let's go on a winning streak starting now...:D

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Key to tomorrow night: Stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand.

Was watching the game online. We did look sloppy in the 3rd, ultimately leading to an odd-man rush for RMU, and it looked like they scored but the refs waived it off, and that was the end of that. It took the wind out of them. That said, we didn't exactly play a full 60 minutes tonight. Robert Morris now has a feel for the way we play and that could play a factor tomorrow night. Stay focused, boys.

By the way, at times (based on the online video feed) the rink sounded awfully quiet. Perhaps that lulled our opponent to sleep in the 1st period, resulting in our drawing 1st blood. And no pep band tonight??? Kinda makes me embarrassed to have been associated with them. Why wouldn't they be there when (A) students are back and (B) it's the 1st home game in 2 months!!!

Tomorrow night (again, now in the form of a Bart Simpson chalkboard gag):
I will stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand.
I will stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand.
I will stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand.
I will stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand.
I will stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand.

P.S. Cornell not only defeats North Dakota, but shuts them out??? They're not going to be easy when we play them in February.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Crowd wasn't bad for tonight (1023) considering the team hasn't played at home in two months and the opponent was an out-of-conference team that while has had big wins recently, isn't a terrible sexy opponent.

Chair backs were maybe half full with a big gathering in Section 1 at the first intermission for what I believe was a wedding as two people got married wearing Colgate's home white sweaters. The bleachers on the visitor's side were slightly full. The Raider Nation section had a youth hockey team sitting in it and a handful of students/locals but it wasn't completely filled. Same with the area behind the road bench. No band tonight either which is strange considering classes are back underway and nothing else was really going on tonight that I know of.

Anyone interested in tickets for the Cornell game, I think the promotions dpt. is going to have some type of contest giveaway perhaps. I'll put anything up here as soon as I get it.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Workman-like win. The 3rd period stretch where RMU controlled play was unfortunate, but otherwise Colgate kept them from being particularly dangerous

Too many penalties, especially ones that appeared to be the result of sloppiness on our part, gonna have to cut down on those. PK looked pretty solid, though I missed the RMU goal. PP did not really look dangerous, not a great deal of possession within the Colonial zone. Lots of dumping or one shot without real follow-up or re-possession. Not quite sure what to do about that

Otherwise, not a whole lot to say about this one. You hate to chalk up opponents as "easy wins," but if this team is going to make a run in the season's second half, RMU should be a 4 point weekend

The lack of band was.....disappointing

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I heard someone say - maybe GR? - that the students were "drifting in" over the weekend, so maybe that's why the seats were not full last nite.

Good luck tonight team! Kind of hard to get jazzed for a sweep of an OOC opponent, but this will be a good test of 'Gate's "will to win," no matter who we play in the future...And we can always say we're better than Miami if we sweep...:D

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Surprised nobody has posted yet about tonight's result. At least we can brag to Miami that we didn't lose to RMU :D

Yeah, we only played a solid 55 minutes tonight. The 1st ten minutes of the 2nd period were VERY sloppy. RMU's 2nd goal was the result of a turnover in our defensive zone allowing the RMU player to skate in alone on Evin. Luckily, he also stopped a shorthanded breakaway later in the frame and returned to form in both the 3rd period and overtime. I honestly thought we were the more dominant team in the 3rd period, even though it took 19 minutes to score. But hey -- we battled back to avoid a loss.

Other positives from tonight's game:
-Perfect 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.
-TWO powerplay goals.
-We didn't rotate goalies. Evin is making a case to be the starter for the stretch run. If he doesn't get the start next Friday, something's wrong with the coaching staff.

For the 2nd night in a row, the pep band was absent from the game??? Yeesh. Next week we play Clarkson -- their band will be there. The last thing I want is for THAT band to overtake Starr.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

All the warmup games are over now. If we're serious about a bye then sweep Clarkson and SLU next weekend. Anything less is a disappointment.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Definitely congrats. If you can sweep a team that swept the #1 team in the nation, that's going to do a number of good for your pairwise. Best of luck to your team in the rest of the season; we're close to even (differential is a GP) and very tight in the standings.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

SLU is playing great hockey right now and brings a modest handful of fans to Starr. We also need to stop Vermuelen. I think a split at home against the North Country is anything but disappointing. Clarkson is desperate and has nothing to lose; underachieving Dartmouth just whipped Union, so who knows.

Sounds like Scrivens is staking an early claim for the Ken Dryden Award.

Thanks, but we didn't sweep. (A win and a tie.) But unlike Miami, we didn't lose to that team.

We now have 1 "game in hand" on every team in the conference except Cornell -- we'll make up that game on Feb. 16th. A sweep next weekend would buoy us towards the top of the standings. Four points separate 1st from 8th right now -- every team has a shot to win it all.

My apologies, I thought I saw two wins on the score thread. :o Still, it's better than losing.
