That actually happened. Day-McIntyre-Smith and Bourdon-Brisebois-Prockow ('Gate Radio calls this line the "French Connection 2.5") were broken up to McIntyre-Brisebois-Firman and Day-Smith-Prockow? And Evin started for the 1st time since his injury in the Union game. But Evin played well, according to the radio broadcast.

But the important thing is, we won 6-2 !!!!! 4 in a row at Cheel! Losing streak is over. The road trip is over. We got the road split we desperately needed and are now 6-4-1 in the ECAC. We've played each team in the conference EXACTLY once, and have earned 13 out of 22 possible points. Not too bad from a strictly conference viewpoint. Plus we now get a reprieve next weekend with Robert Morris coming to town (though they won't be easy, especially since they swept Miami), and we have 7 of the next 9 at home. From another viewpoint, there are 13 games left in the regular season, and NINE of them are at Starr. Let's see if we can keep this momentum going.

Also, we're in 5th place in the conference now, ONE point behind 3rd. Plus we're ONE point behind Quinnipiac with 2 games in hand on the Bobcats. What's happened to them???

Lastly, this was the first time we didn't allow 3 goals to our opponent since the November 7 win vs. Dartmouth.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Pleased this am...got our split...scored six goals !! We finished strong in the third period (four goals) Evin played well.

When's the last time we were 6-4-1 at the halfway point of ECAC scheduling ?? Three of the four teams that have beaten us, and are ahead of us in the standings, we play at home !!! Hockey season starts nowww !!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Coaches changed up the line-up all around last night. Mac, Brisbois and Long started as a line, until Long got kicked out, and the they took Prockow.
Day, Smith & Firman played together with Firman scoring Two. Cox, Williams & Bourdon were another line.
The game got ugly thru the 2nd period, and the ECAC officiating was its usual inconsistent self.
Paul Stewart, former NHL Player / Ref & Head of officiating for the ECAC, has got to gain control of the sloppy officiating in this conference.
Clarkson came at us physically last night, and Colgate did not back down, but in fact took control of the game.
Coach Vaughan did a brilliant job in the line-up changes, which essentially opened the door for offensive production, as other teams can no longer just defend against one line. The other thing he is accomplishing, is giving the Freshman and sophomores a chance to develop with the upper-classmen.
Lets give credit to the coaching staff for also starting Evin, whom played very well, and in fact may have played his way into the Starting Job, which is what this team has been looking for.
Next weekend is going to be a very good test for the balance of the ECAC schedule commencing the week after. Its a time for us to develop great work ethics and habits as well as trust in the lineup to be ready for the Conference Final Run.
Lastly, the Defence are coming along very nice, with a few hitting the score sheet last night as well. I continue to have a very strong gut feel for 2010.

Geez....the bummer comments of Saturday morning have been replaced by the euphoric wonderings of Sunday morning.... I sense a lot of ambivalence by you folks out there.

One good game in goal does not a season make. I still have jitters about our goalies and won't really have any confidence in that dep't until next year.

BTW, Dan Gladazewski (sp?) has an interesting take on the balance of the 'Gate season on the INCH website if anyone's interested.

Sorry, but I live in the current, not in the past or future.
Our time is NOW, not next year. Next Year, will be a new year, a time for optimism then. Now is when we need to capitalize on the current leadership we have. We are 6-4-1 with A ton of Freshman on the back end, very inconsistent Tending, and One line Offence.
That has changed or is changing quickly by the nature of Coaching decisions made yesterday.
Also by the way, the Name is Joe Gladziszewski, nicknamed "Gladdy" for short.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Maybe not a "great" win but a necessary one...generally speaking two good lines present more problems to our opponents than one very good line and probably allows a better allocation of ice time to McIntyre, Smith and Day. Prockow and Firman have both had some decent moments this year and their continued improvement is crucial to any continued success. I'd like to see some scoring out of the #3 and #4 lines, but as long as they play well defensively we could be alright. Again, this is a strange team (see INCH column) where sometimes it appears the whole is less than the sum of the parts. One signature win - home against Cornell? - might really help. Hoping against hope it would be great to see some legitimate support from the students. I still can't figure out the goaltending but Coach V's always liked to ride one goaltender, especially down the stretch. Notwithstanding my frustration (and I think a lot of us get frustrated because we love college hockey and think - rightly or not - that the 'Gate can be a force at times) let's take this win and run with it...go RED Raiders...

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

So many of you are quick to blame goaltending for our problems. How many freshman D? How many of our upper classman D were not in the lineup last year due to injury? Dex and Silverthorn didn't deal with as many defenive issues as Evin and Long. Evin had a good game against a sub par Clarkson team. Long had a good game against a surging SLU team. I think both guys are probably capable but have had issues in battling through the challenges of inexperienced D and an inconsistent offensive effort to give them a lead to work with. Coaching staff appears to want Evin to be their guy but it looked the same last year. I think they will keep rotating guys until someone gets on a run, which neither have done this year.
I am glad the coaches finally put together a more balanced line structure. There is a lot of offensive talent, raw as it may be, with the younger guys. The more they get involved the better we will become down the stretch.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

FYI, hoping to catch up with former Colgate captain Nick St. Pierre this week (he's in the ECHL with the Reading Royals) for a telephone interview that we'd play this coming weekend. Look for an interview next week with another former Colgate captain (this one's a little older). This weekend I also hope to talk with Robert Morris assistant coach Matt Nicholson and at least Sean Carty will be in the Raiders Spotlight.

Next Don Vaughan radio/internet show will be on Jan. 26 at the Colgate Inn. Come down and see it live at 7:00 pm, listen on WKXZ or watch on All-Access.

One last note, Colgate goal highlights from the Clarkson game broadcast on B2 Networks (save for the Larkin goal) are now up on ECACHockey.com.

Doghok - Don't worry, I'm in the present. Just get frustrated with our alternating goalie situation. I hope one of them gets hot down the stretch, as other posters have pointed out. IMHO we need to settle on one before playoffs start. You only go as far as your goalie and "D" take you, as they say at Stanley Cup time.

I am encouraged hearing that the "O" lines are being broken up....:)

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Lines have been shuffled in the past, only to revert to form later, so it'll be interesting to see how Vaughan plays this down the stretch

It will be interesting also to see how the goalie situation sorts itself out. I know Coach wants to ride the hot hand, but who will step up and take it? Will Long get credit for a solid game against a superior opponent, or will the last collapse hurt his overall standing? Evin played well against Clarkson, but the Knights aren't anything special this year, and he's had his ups and downs through the course of the season

I'm certainly happy about the effort and result up in Potsdam. Saturday wins always feel just a little better. At the same time, taking 2 points on a North Country trip is nothing to be ashamed with. We got the points, we're halfway home in the ECAC sitting in 5th. I like the set-up down the stretch with all those games at home. Robert Morris appears to be a decent team with some good wins under their belt, but in our rink, it's time to take the season in hand and get some momentum for that last ECAC push

Now is the time

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

It's the first weekend of the spring semester (sorry, ColSkate - J term hasn't been around for years :), so hopefully students will attend the games. I am really looking forward to seeing the boys "in person." FYI, for those attending the game on Saturday night.......there will be a tailgate starting @ 4:30 pm, near the south side of the B&G building.
GO 'GATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads-up. Blurry and a bit difficult to spot the puck...but crashing the net is ALWAYS a good idea!!! I sure hope All-Access is better.

Good luck 'Gate

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

*fingers crossed* Problems as far as I know should be fixed. But, given the issues that we've had this season, who knows :)

At least for this coming weekend they're going to use the radio feed to provide audio for the video webcast. My audio should also be on the Brown and Union games - those are the only other two that won't be on Time Warner. Then, you'll have the Time Warner announcers I believe in those other games.

That shows what an oldtimer knows about the academic calendar at 'Gate. Sorry for the gaffe!..:o

Here's another question CU13: where is the B&G bldg? Shows how little I know outside of the football & hockey schedules..

Great news about Andy last night.
