Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Two points on the road is always something to be happy about!!! Still feel more confident with Long in goal but always nice to hear when one of our own stops a penalty shot!

It's great to see the team improving on many levels. Wish we could hold onto a (comfortable) lead and didn't allow the pp goals, but our SOGs are up and overall I'd say this is a solid first half to the season and that it's just nice to be in the driver's seat for a while!

Colgate Third Jerseys On Sale To Public

Hockey fans can reserve their own game-worn Colgate third jersey and help two charities and the fundraising arm of the Raiders’ men’s hockey program.

These jerseys (as shown in the picture) will be sold to the public for $200. Proceeds of this year’s sale will go to the Hamilton Food Cupboard, Toys for Tots as well as the Silver Puck Club.

Colgate donned these jerseys for the first time November 21 in a 5-4 overtime victory over Princeton at Starr Rink. While the raiders are slated to wear these a couple more times this season, fans can immediately call and reserve a jersey. If you have a favorite player, or number, or just want to donate towards some great causes, please call Michelle Reese at (315) 228-7570 to reserve your authentic third jersey. Delivery date will transpire later on in the hockey season.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

FYI, our turncoat brother, TchrBill, has once again won the weekly "ECAC Pick 'em" by picking against 'Gate...:(

Not only that, but he has taken the overall lead in the contest for the season....

Is nothing sacred??? For shame Bill!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I don't know, picking against Colgate doesn't seem like such a great idea this year (we do have a winning record, after all :D)

I promise, picking us in every game hasn't hurt me that much (it's my picks in the other games that are friggin' killing me...)

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Bump....Hey, I'm leading the nation in INCH Pickem !! Only fifth in ECAC pick the standings. Heal up boys....why we play Canisius this Sunday anyways ?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Bump.

Congrats Shabby! Keep up the good work. I'm way back in 47th place in ECAC picks....:(

Don't know why we are playing Canisius. Does it have something to do with their academic schedule??..

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet.

http://capitals.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=509799&navid=DL|WSH|home

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Karl Alzner and center Kyle Wilson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and assigned center Mathieu Perreault to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

As for the Canisius game, I believe it's a reciprocal game from a trip Canisius made to Colgate during the 2006-07 season. That game featured 35 combined penalties (called by Frank Murphy), 32 power plays (each went 0-for-16) and nine Colgate goals in a 9-0 Raiders win. Twenty-six of the penalties were called in the second and third period, mostly for obstruction and stick fouls.

Also, another random note. Listening to the radio on the way home from a football playoff game on Saturday, apparently Scooter Smith has left the SPHL and is now playing for the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. He was playing for Toledo against Elmira this past Saturday night.

I don't mind the Canisius game. Given they've got a tough matchup with Notre Dame right after New Year's, I prefer another competitive game with a local opponent on the ice so the team isn't sitting for a month

I remember that 06-07 game. Canisius took a ton of penalties because they were a step behind the whole game. Colgate looked pretty impressive, but the constant whistles really chopped up the flow (as you might expect)

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

For those of you who weren't able to tune in to the Coaches Show tonight, we'll have the archived video up on GoColgateRaiders.com sometime over the next few weeks. I believe it will be posted as a free video and not part of All-Access since we weren't able to put it on All-Access live.

We actually recorded the show this afternoon in the basement of the library on a sound stage. It's part of the beautiful digital media studio downstairs.

Coach Vaughan was on for the first two segments and then I chatted with freshmen defensemen Jeremy Price and Thomas Larkin.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Sunday's game at Canisius will be a good OOC test for our players. The only concern is if they have enough practice for this game, given the fact that exams don't finish until tomorrow afternoon.

But the team has recorded four shutouts this season, 1 against Ferris State but the other 3 against UConn and American Int'l. Both Colgate and Canisius are scoring at least 3 goals/game but both are yielding at least 3 goals against/game. I won't be able to see/listen to this game so I'm hoping it'll be a decent result.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Great video of Kyle Wilson after his first NHL game on his birthday. He's had a great career with Hershey and probably should have gotten the nod to come up earlier but in the last few years sons of great players and others a bit flashier but perhaps less worthy beat him to it. None, however, has had a better first game. Kudos Kyle, you belong...:)

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Colgate scores 2 field goals, Canisius however scores a touchdown. 7-6 we lose in overtime.
Bessette plays in net for his 1st career start, and Mac is missing from the line-up with a reported lower body injury.

Lets hope Santa brings us lots of good health for January 2nd against Notre Dame.

I sure hope so.

Sounds like either the team had a final exam hangover, or Canisius wanted revenge from that 9-0 loss back in 2006. Good thing I missed this game. Hopefully it won't kill us in the long run -- our RPI dropped below .500 with this loss. I don't ever remember us scoring 6 goals and losing.

At least some positives came out of this game. Firman 2 goals, Price 2 goals, Day another goal, FOUR power-play goals and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. Good to see Bessette get some action, but he definitely played like someone who was used to being on the bench. 16 saves on 23 shots?? ONE save on 4 shots in the 3rd period? I see McIntyre missed the game too, apparently we still have injury issues after a break?

I don't want to sound negative but we might as well have a game like this now than in February or March.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

It was Bessette's first start of the season but the third of his career. He was in goal last year for an OT win over Quinnipiac and then a loss to Harvard.
