Coaching changes 2013

Re: Coaching changes 2013

Am hearing that Candace Moxley, OSU assistant womens coach, has landed the Buffalo State job. Looks like Nate is going to have to rebuild his entire staff since they have all moved up in the coaching ranks. Nice job on his part developing and pushing his assistants. And nice pickup by Buffalo State, she will do a good job.

Maybe he was the only applicant who seemed qualified.

Not true, know of a couple good, experienced candidates looking for entry into the college game. I'm sure Wil is a nice guy and all, but like other posters have said, he's a classmate of most of the team! Wish him the best but going to be tough situation.
Why does Nichols always go the cheap and easy route??? Do they do the same for other sports?

With these recent hires out of OSU, that makes 5 Niagara alums in head coaching positions in women's hockey.
I thought it was interesting for one school to have so many given the fact NU hasn't had a men's team that long (compared to most D1 teams) and don't even support women's hockey any more.

RIT - McDonald
Ohio state - Handrahan
Neumann - Handrahan
and now UConn - Mackenzie
Buff state - Moxley
And the men's head coach at buff state is a Niagara alum as well.

Head coach of Concordia-Moorhead Brett Bruiniks leaves to take assistant coaching job at Mankato. My daughter who will play for Concordia not real happy about it but I guess it's our welcome to college sports.

Most Division 3 coaches are looking for opportunities to move to the Division 1 level (usually as an Assistant Coach) and the Division 3 school is just a temporary stopping point. I observed a few girls going through the Division 3 process in the last few years and I would guesstimate that if they had a serious interest from a Division 3 head coach in their Junior year that by the time they were a college freshman there was only about a 50% chance that that coach was still the head coach at the same school. This is why I alsways advise the girls that they should pick a SCHOOL that they love, not a coach. There are a few Division 3 exceptions - Mandigo at Middlebury, Houle at Plattsburgh, Venditti at Colby come to mind without any research - but not many.

Division 1 coaches are far more stable - this year in particular. I think only U Conn has a new head coach for next year at this point.

I totally understand that as does my daughter. Coach Bruininks asked her if she would be interested in going to Mankato and she declined. She liked Bruininks but she loves Concordia so all is well. Just hope they find a good replacement for him.

Re: Coaching changes 2013

Icehawk decided to break the story before any of the involved schools. CM has hired a lot of new coaches in their women sports recently. Read into it what you will.

What I read into is coaches moving up the coaching ladder with a bigger paycheck. That is what 90% of college coaches want. Also must mean Concordia has quality coaches that other bigger schools want. Like I said hopefully the womens hockey program hire another top notch coach like Bruininks was.
