Problem is that while those areas will have the right temperatures for being breadbaskets, they don’t get enough sunlight. So they’ll never be as productive as today’s breadbaskets in Kansas et al.
I was actually thinking about this all day. The growing season has four major factors.
1. When does stuff thaw/dry out?
2. How warm does it get?
3. How much water does it get?
4. How much light?
all four of those are almost ideal for thr current breadbasket. The problem is #4 and the second half of #1. Both will be limiting factors for northern climates moving forward over the next several decades. Even if they did have the sun and temp, the wet season - I think - isn't going anywhere. You're still going to have to wait for the fields to dry out before you can turn them over and seed them.
