According to right wingers, the 16 year old from Covington Catholic is an angel who thinks for himself, but Greta and other young climate activists are puppets. Got it.

Not quite, but one was instantly condemned by the MSM and one was instantly exalted. Subsequent revelations revealed that the MSM was in a rush to judgment on the former. We await to see what happens to the latter.

You think maybe Greta molests priests or something? *** do you think is going to come out? Soros is her daddy?

I’m in the middle of a graduate program on climate change so I’m gonna add something here as it’s literally something I’m deep in every day.

Climate has always changed. And for the millions of years before the last few hundred years, it wasn’t us. Volcanoes and the asteroid and things like that helped move us through changes.
But since the industrial revolution and our burning of fossil fuels? It’s really and truly mostly us. I’ve enjoyed looking at the science from IPCC and several other institutions and they all agree. All.

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

So here's the real interesting thought that I keep having.

It's pretty obvious that the only real entity that gains by the climate change denial is the oil and coal industries. But the really funny thing is that the true economic conservative, who really, REALLY, thinks about how much stuff costs and how much opportunity is for growth should be on the opposite side of that. Why? See China- they see the enormous opportunity in growth of solar and nuclear power. There's HUGE opportunity in making power in any other way than just burning stuff.

Somehow, people like joe just can't see the obvious opportunity. Not sure why.

The same people can't see that resources are finite- regardless of the fact we keep finding more coal and oil- but that's getting harder and harder to find. Again, a real conservative would want to CONSERVE their resources to make them last as long as possible. But no, seeing the growth financial opportunity and noting that conserving is in their name just does not sway any of them. Not sure why. The more you argue the science, the more they dig in and pretend that burning stuff is the way to go.

Funny how that is.

Pretty easy to figure out. Fossil is an easy, simple buck. The technology is done. The gas stations are in place. The rest requires investment, gamble, and research. It's the same reason Pharma does what it does. It costs them a ton of money to research and get a new drug on the market. That's cost none of these investment clowns want to deal with, they'd rather just have the steady stream of incoming cash.

There are no conservatives anymore.

They detect a barrier to Plute predation and reflexively oppose it to keep their Weltanschauung coherent. There's nothing deeper than that.

They are not thinking. They are on ideological autopilot. They are the Cambodian soldiers in Apocalypse Now cutting off their children's arms.

Outside of American herpa-derps nearly the entire rest of the freaking planet has accepted the science and agrees that man has influenced the climate to a negative factor over and above natural cyclical progression.

Think about that.

The same nations that reject climate change are also the only three nations to use imperial measurements.

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

Interesting, but not sure it belongs in the climate change thread. From the article:
The shelf is essentially the floating extension of a number of glaciers that flow off the land into the sea. Losing bergs to the ocean is how these ice streams maintain equilibrium, balancing the input of snow upstream...

The Scripps researcher stressed that there was no link between this event and climate change. Satellite data since the 1990s has shown that Amery is roughly in balance with its surroundings, despite experiencing strong surface melt in summer.

"While there is much to be concerned about in Antarctica, there is no cause for alarm yet for this particular ice shelf," Prof Fricker added.

I’ve been saying for years now: green technology is goi got see a shift of trillions of dollars in global wealth, whether we participate or not.

I’d rather we did, regardless of whether climate change is real. (It is.)

climate change is inconvenient because people have to be willing to change their lifestyle. It's easier to just say its all made up.

That’s the insane thing, it doesn’t require you change that much even. We have the technology.

As much as I hate Teslas and think they’re garbage, we have a (somewhat) working model to fix cars. We have solar technology that could work if everyone had rooftop grids. The list is endless.

Just subsidize the green tech.

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

In think Germany is now completely on renewables.

It isn’t that hard.
