Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

Those crazy Finns ...

They're claiming we're less than 10% of CO2 so we're a <10% burger when it comes to climate change.

As quoted by ZeroHedge.

I'm gonna guess...

By as early as 1958, both the public health community and the tobacco industry itself expressed views that it was obvious that the TIRC was little more than a PR activity.

According to the American Cancer Society in 1958, the whole point of the TIRC was:

"to deny repeatedly" and "mislead" and "to convince the trusting tobacco-consuming public of the industry’s eleemosynary, lasting interest in people’s health"
A similar view is presented by the tobacco industry and it's associates as documented in private documents that can be found in the tobacco documents library:

"the constantly reiterated ‘not proven’ statements in the face of mounting contrary evidence has thoroughly discredited the TIRC, and the SAB [Scientific Advisory Board] of TIRC is supporting almost without exception project that are not related directly to smoking and lung cancer" (Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company, 1958)
"Most of the TIRC research has been diffuse and of a broad, basic nature not designed to specifically test the anti-cigarette theory." (Covington & Burling, 1963)
In a 1998 law suit "United States Vs Philip Morris" Judge Gladys Kessler stated that the TIRC was:

"a sophisticated public relations vehicle based on the premise of conducting independent scientific research - to deny the harms of smoking and reassure the public."

It's posted on a site (arXiv) where they don't peer review anything and according to wikipedia:
While arXiv does contain some dubious e-prints, such as those claiming to refute famous theorems or proving famous conjectures such as Fermat's Last Theorem using only high-school mathematics, a 2002 source claims they are "surprisingly rare".[29][better source needed] arXiv generally re-classifies these works, e.g. in "General mathematics", rather than deleting them;[30] however, some authors have voiced concern over the lack of transparency in the arXiv screening process.[31]

As for the paper itself they don't really have citations for key data and as we all know, the science on this is pretty well established by now.

Not that it's gonna stop Sica from posting while day drinking :D

No peer review? Jfc

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

Why do we keep building in flood plains?

Why is the levee system not complete in New Orleans?

Why does the Netherlands kick our ****ing *** controlling water?

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

Because Muricans don't want to pay for it, consequences be d@mned.

I just saw a guy interviewed from Baton Rouge. He was out of his house for over a year after 2016. He has a brand new house in the same spot and given water projections he's going to have another brand new house in another 2 years.

****ing insanity.

Why do they also have better healthcare and speak so many languages? Socialism.

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

There are all kinds of reasons why GOPers who refuse to recognize the urgency of global warming should be publicly shamed, but I hope they are forced to eat their own intolerance and their excuses when it becomes obvious to even them that global warming will cause levels of immigration pressure they have not yet dreamed of. You just can't claim we have an immigration crisis and also deny the urgency of global warming.

This shyt could get very ugly in our children's lifetime. In our own, for those young enough. And by "could," I mean "probably will."

Where did the half-capitalized sentences fad come from?

Where ever it was, it can return.

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

Well, Louisiana is an R state, one that gives HUGE tax breaks to oil companies.

Given they keep voting for these guys, it's somewhat hard to feel sorry for them. It's also hard to support paying for their recovery, since their policies are partially driving these weather events.
