Clarkson & SLU @ RPI & Union (3/1, 3/2)

Re: Clarkson & SLU @ RPI & Union (3/1, 3/2)

Been a fan for 30 years and completely disagree. It has been Union for at least the last 10 years IMO. It takes 2 and I don't even think Clarkson fans/alumni consider RPI their top rival.

No they are not a hockey rival at all. Only the coaches, players and other school think so. Why should you. Question, Why would you hate them so much and stalk their thread if they were not a rival in your mind?
ditto & double ditto :D

Re: Clarkson & SLU @ RPI & Union (3/1, 3/2)

I consider them a rival, but since they did not have a team when I was in Troy, it is hard to put them near the top.

In your position as an alumni and fan, before Union fielded a team, I can understand your personal feelings but do you really think RPI currently has a bigger hockey rival than Union?

Re: Clarkson & SLU @ RPI & Union (3/1, 3/2)

If you want to put reciprocation into the mix, #26 Union's biggest rival is St, Clooud. :D

Who said reciprocation was necessary, though? As we learned from J. Geils Band, Love Stinks. Yeah yeah.

Re: Clarkson & SLU @ RPI & Union (3/1, 3/2)

My father is a Clarkson alum from the early 70's and he still doesn't quite understand the apparent intense Clarkson/RPI rivalry. He sees it as largely one-sided. Sure they always disliked each other but his hatred has always seemed to be towards St. Lawrence and Cornell. He even seems to dislike Harvard more, among other Boston area schools (and particularly Jerry York), because they seemed to look down on the "country boys" of upstate New York.

Re: Clarkson & SLU @ RPI & Union (3/1, 3/2)

Not a bad interview. The most surprising thing was that he considers Union to be our #1 rival instead of Clarkson. Maybe our younger fans (and I'm sure, the media) feel the same way, but most RPI fans that I know feel its been Clarkson, and will always be Clarkson.

It is changing for me but I am still hold Clarkson up there and respect them as one of the top rivals until we can get our ovrall win percentage against them up from the dismal level it is at. I know we have not played them as often(by far) but for the same reason I would love to see us get a couple wins somewhere somehow against Denver. I watched for a long time over many years before we finally got our first win out there and it felt good. But i must admit, Union in the past few years has reached the top spot for me as an opponent.
