some news:

Schloss mentions 06 D Tarin Smith of the Everett Silvertips will likely go to Minnesota, plays for Everett Silvertips. Dupont is the bigger name but Smith is older, steady and more mature. 2024 Ducks 3rd round pick. Currently injured, hasn't played in the 2nd round yet

Friedge reported that the WHL is making some updates- they are increasing the length of their season by 1 week and not changing the number of games, so there's more rest. In addition, teams will be allowed to do air travel for certain trips. Previously they were banned outright to keep a level playing field (dumb move). Basically not forcing these kids into the 14-hour bus rides. Not sure what the details on this are- if it is required, who is paying, which distances should be air travel, etc

I posted that list of CHL alum on DU and some salty CHL fan came in with a gotcha about them all being aged out overagers, which is funny because majority of them still have junior eligibility (2 04, 2 05, 2 06). If you're gonna be a weirdo about it at least get some facts right.

4/12 recap

BFD 3-2 NB in 2OT, BFD leads 3-0, Benak (WMU) 1g, Cali (Harvard) 2a
WSR 6-5 FLNT, WSR leads 2-0, Harvey (Penn State) 2g, Davis (UConn) 1g1a, Anderson (Clarkson) 1g1a
KIT 8-5 SOO, KIT leads 2-0, Edwards (Quinnipiac) 2g, Humphreys (Minnesota) 1g1a, McKenzie (Penn State) 1g

lots of blown leads and almost-wons. refs didn't do a great job at controlling that last game.

Jeff Marek reports D Cameron Reid and F Jack Nesbitt to Michigan. Cameron Reid is the captain of the Kitchener Rangers and was picked by Nashville 21st overall last June, regular Team Canada feature at this age group. Jack Nesbitt plays for the Windsor Spitfires and was drafted 12th overall by Philly. 6'5, big two-way physical center- definitely a work in progress. Nesbitt is also First Nations- Anishinaabe from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory. Marek is a very good source, especially on canadian junior hockey- he often has CHL related guests on his podcast The Sheet and the other day he recorded one live from Penticton before their playoff game.

some commit news:

05 G Cooper Michaluk commits to BGSU, former Spokane goalie who spent the past season in the BCHL. If you're thinking that's a sign he's bad- Quentin Miller, Charles-Edward Gravel, Jan Spunar among others successful freshmen goalies who had a tough time grabbing the limited overager spot.

07 F Landon McFadden also commits to BGSU, plays for Moose Jaw. Point per game player this year.

06 F Gavin Cornforth commits/transfers to UMass. BC player who played half his freshman season and joined Moncton Wildcats at the semester. He's been great for Moncton and was one of their best performers in their 1st round sweep.

Gavin's dad Mark was a very good player at Merrimack. Would have liked to see him in Blue and Gold. Good for UMass.

I was almost expecting him to end up there, but the surprise championship likely led to Merrimack retaining players who otherwise might've gone pro or transferred elsewhere. definitely a good pickup for UMass. imo he probably wasn't ready for college quite yet and Hemming's arrival kinda pushed him out. Moncton is a great program and seems to be doing wonders for his confidence.

EVT/KEL 10:05pm, game 3, EVT leads 2-0

2 game suspension for EVT Jaxsin Vaughan, Halaburda (CC) ruled out for the season- which means no Memorial Cup. terrible way for a great WHL career to end.

update: NB/BFD game 4 has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 6pm due to flooding near the arena

05 F Lucas Romeo commits to RIT, plays for Cape Breton

06 D Blake Barnes commits to BU, plays for Niagara IceDogs. There is another D with the same name in Saginaw but he's an 08

Providence commit Caiden Pellegrino has signed with Rimouski. 75 points in 30 games with St Marks, big for Rimouski and the QMJHL as a whole to lure a highly touted American like him

BG also picked up 03 Teague Patton after 2 years start Mount Royal University. Previously with Everett, Victoria, and Medicine Hat.

Nick Wellenreiter (North Bay) is heading to Lowell according to the Lowell Sun. It looks like he was originally committed to Maine. Any thoughts?
he was one of the earlier BCHL guys to jump to the OHL after the rule change, especially considering he was undrafted. standout skill is his shot, notably good in shootouts. NB were 5-1 in games that went to shootouts, and he was always the first guy and he only missed twice. in this season's coaches poll he was named 3rd best shootout shooter in the Eastern Conference. he would've played tonight if not for the major flooding of basically every road around their arena... solid player with finishing ability

the one immediate connection to any current UML guys is a brief overlap with Dominic Payne during 23-24 when both played for the Sherwood Park Crusaders- i think Wellenreiter was traded there at the deadline. could be something else further i haven't found yet
