CCHA v2.9.1 - BGSU BSU FSU LSSU MSU MTU NMU UST & Special Guests - The Augie Vikings

anyone want to take a preseason rankings for the CCHA going into the season? I ask this as I have not been able this summer to keep up with or see all the portal moves and incoming freshman classes. Too much work travel over seas

The final results are in. There were 39 submissions so I tossed out the high and low for each team which smoothed the numbers out nicely. Here's what stands out:

o Tech is the clear, undisputed choice to win the MacNaughton while Augustana is the unanimous choice to finish 9th.
o Despite losing their coach, their best players, their best recruits, their mascot, and their favorite burger joint to WI, Maverick fever dies hard.
o Mankato and Northern tied for the #2 spot. Out of 37 entries. What are the odds?
o Bemidji and BG are basically tied for the #4 spot.
o It's 4-for-3 with respect to home ice for the playoffs between Mankato, Northern, Bemidji, and BG. The gaps between this four is miniscule; it's anyone's ball game.
o St. Thomas, Ferris, and Lake Superior round out spots 6-8.
o Northern had the most variability. The group sees them finishing anywhere from 2nd to almost 6th.

Here's the data with likely projected finishing ranges:

This is going to be a wild year in the CCHA. I wouldn't be surprised to see St Thomas and FSU in the mix for home ice.

it's going to be awesome... the battle for home-ice alone will be great. i think UST will make a great leap this season.

and here is hoping things at LSSU are ok school-wise; with an undergrad student population of ~2,100 (per their site) it does not give you much confidence in this day and age... they used to be part of tech - maybe would/could become a satellite campus for someone. anyway, just speculation on my part...

GO TECH GOLD!!!

You can recognize an MTU survey by the statistics and error bars provided in the summary. I'd say: no statistical difference between 2-4, and not much between 5-6. Only 1 and 6 are unique.

I agree the CCHA is deep with parity. I draw my conclusion going into the season looking at the playoffs final 4 last season - NMU, MSU, Ferris, MTU and realizing St Thomas had a huge freshmen class when they started and are now adding on. So looking at departures and portal additions I come up with this scenario for my top 4. MSU lost too much will take a few years to get back up top. MTU kept some older players however will be close tp PY, their D will be the question mark. Ferris returns the majority of their team that swept BGU in the playoffs and from what I could see one of the best goalies in D1, could be one of the better Ferris teams in the last 5-6 year span. Now I just need some help with this team as I cannot get a handle on their roster NMU. Lost and added players, if added players to fill their holes than they could be preseason #1 just don't know much about their off season. so for fun my top 4 preseason. 1.) NMU 2.) MTU/Ferris (Tie) 4.) Going on a limb here BSU, really liked their younger players last year

My only issues with NMU is they have yet to put a whole season together under Grandpa Tony. They have had talent and the ability to score a lot of goals. Their D is almost always suspect. This year could be different as Halasz has had games where he has been solid in net.

Almost every CCHA team has an argument for #1 or #7. Who gets home ice is going to be a fight to the end this year. I don't see the CCHA placing a team in the top 15 this year as they will be beating each other up.
