CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

I may be biased, but Knelsen should have been a first team selection, and Fergie should have been a COY nominee! Anyway I wish this was on TV, kind of chaps me a little. As everyone said, this should be a great match up. I wish I was going to be there, I bet the atmosphere is going to be awesome! I hope we can break our "curse" in Marquette! I'm hoping for a great weekend of fast paced, injury free hockey. Go Nooks!

Knelsen is a nice player, but he isn't on the same level yet. And I agree Fergie should of been a nominee, but is there any doubt on who is going to get the award? Not trying to be biased either but when you only lose twice in conference play I think its safe to say you are a lock for coach of the year.

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

Rico should win it, he is a fantastic coach. I just think Fergie should have been nominated. Dion is a great player. Most people look at him as a senior, and forget he just turned 21. He is younger than some of the guys on the all rookie team. Actually he is the youngest or second youngest senior in the country. If Dion played for one of the "upper" teams like Umich, or Miami we wouldn't even be engaged in this conversation. Alaska "stole" him four years ago. He was committed to mjrs, and colleges backed off (except UA). As a UA fan, I'm glad he decided to become a Nanook! It will be interesting to see what he does after college.

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

..........also whenever the Nooks play Miami I cheer when we score, but when Miami plays someone else, I cheer when Cody makes a save. I really enjoyed watching him play for the Fairbanks Ice dogs. He is a great guy, and a great player. He will always have a ton of fans here in Fairbanks!

Agree 100% Fergie should of been a canidate. I don't think Alaska gets pushed aside at all. Knelsen is a solid player but he isn't on the same level as the 6 guys voted in front of him. Also Taranto will be freshman of the year in the conference. That kid had a phenomial year, so you will get yours and you aren't forgotten in the great white north!

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

Has anyone in Marquette heard how ticket sales are going? I'd love to see a couple of sellouts.

Looking at the NMU ticket site, there are some empty sections yet. Walk up sales are going to need to be big.

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

IT'S GAMEDAY :D :D :D

Just wanted to let everyone know :p

There really isn't much else to be said... The Cats just need to worry about Alaska tonight, and that's it... No NCAA talk, no Mason Cup talk, no Frozen Four talk... Just worry about UA_... If you take care of them, the rest will come... This group of kids is well seasoned... It's time for them to step up to the plate and follow through on some heavy expectations...

I'll be sporting the Cat jersey all day at work today... Make me proud boys!

GO CATS! GO CATS! GO CATS GO!

From today's Fairbanks Daily Newsminer.

Petovello said the Nanooks aren’t looking back or looking ahead — just at this weekend. “The key for us is focusing on the process — shift by shift, period by period. Do the small things right,” he said.

I detect a subtle theme here. :)
Leave it all on the ice. You're in their barn. Play hard. Play tough. Stay focused. No excuses.

Go Nooks!

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

The Nooks have been focused well from the start. Had a long talk with Kevin P last weekend at the Dipper. Great young man always helps with the kids when asked same goes for D.K, B.K, and Klaus.

Stay the course is the motto. Starts with Ferg and the coaching staff through the leadership of the team.

I wish both teams a great set of games of course being bias towards the NOOKS I wish for them to come out on top.

Like they say "There is no Nookie Like NaNookie"

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

The first ten minutes will be very interesting to me. Will the bye cause rust for NMU?
I don't think the travel will be a factor due to Alaska coming so early.

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

Agreed. The Nooks are used to the routine and arrived even a little earlier than normal. No excuses. I believe the Nooks are healthy so hopefully the Western series didn’t hinder the team, but rather kept them focused and in game shape.

The Nooks will need to quickly shake off any playoff jitters and weather the first ten minutes on enemy ice without mental mistakes. Then they just need to settle in and play their game. Keep the emotion/intensity workman like, neither too high nor too low.

Go Nooks!

Let's Go CATS!!!!

Tonight is a HUGE night for the team and our school. Gotta get a win and get ahead in the best of three!

GO CATS!!!!!

Re: CCHA Second Round: Alaska @ NMU

I checked the NMU ticket site to see if sales had picked up at all and you can no longer buy tickets for this weekend online. Does this happen every hockey weekend?

I just checked as well, very strange. Does that mean it's sold out? Hmmm, wouldn't that be a strange turn of events.

I believe it does. You have to buy them in person now. Last night it looked like there were a lot of seats still available. Hopefully there is a big last minute push.:o

I agree the first ten minutes will be important for the Cats. If Stewart and the rest of the team give up 2 or more goals in the first period, UA wins. I expect the Nanooks will have the early jump on things and Northern will have to weather the storm and get their feet under them.

GO CATS!!!
