Say ND and Miami do go the WCHA, doesn't it seem theoretically likely that schools like BSU, UAA, MTU and Minnesota State would be open to coming to whats left of the CCHA? A league with UAA. UAF, NMU, MTU, LSSU, FSU,WMU, BSU and Minnesota State would certainly give those schools a better opportunity for success year in and year out as opposed to playing in a league and getting pounded every year by Denver, CC, NoDak, ND, Miami, etc.

Hopefully the NCAA hockey will let more teams in just like basketball.

Wouldnt every team want to play in the WCHA. Also, mtu will not leave the WCHA

Each conference gets one autobid to the NCAA tourney. If the NCAA changed that for a combined WCHA/CCHA, then they would have to change it for Hockey East, the AHA, ECACHL and Big Ten as well.

I have nothing against the WCHA, but its honestly not that much if greater then the CCHA. I think both leagues survive on there own, WMU, FSU, Notre Dame, Miami, NMU, and a rising LSSU team all great hockey schools o and UAF. Plus the travel budgets wouldn't cost as much if they stay compared to leaving, besides UAF it makes way more sense for ND and Miami to stay right were they are and the autobid.

I stand by my statement from a few years ago that NMU and Tech should have jumped to the CHA and played 4+ times a season (with something actually on the line besides the Ramada Cup) and just competed for the auto bid :P

Its all about money. There is money and tv contracts in the WCHA. Without UM and MSU there isnt any tv contracts. Programs like LSSU and Ferris will fold without any big schools supporting the programs or a well established league like the WCHA.

Notre Dame joins Hockey East with there other programs to play BU and BC.

I think programs like LSSU and Ferris fold in this senerio and Miami and Notre Dame move on.

Change is on the way in two years when the big ten forums more teams more money.

I just hear LSSU has looked into disbanding the program in the future. I just think that mtu needs lssu and nmu for each of the programs to survive.

And with mtu in the wcha playing bemdji, st cloud, mankato, uno, nd, denver, ankorage, and cc. With the huskies on the downslide i see these programs not intrested in playing tech in the future.

So for tech to survive Division one hockey they need lssu and nmu. These programs need each other like they do in other sports the programs need to play each other to survive. Tech is not going to leave the wcha anytime soon by themselves the other teams may say goodbye to tech if they dont hire the right coach and start being a decent hockey program.

I would hope the WCHA would look into taking the rest of the CCHA teams. You can cry about the tv money and tournament money all you want but the bottom line i dont want to see teams fold which could be the ripple effect of the five big ten teams leaving the wcha and ccha.

I want the small midwest schools to stick together like the big midwest schools are going to be doing in a couple of years.

We have already lost a couple of UP teams this past season in the junior ranks (marquette rangers (JR A)and Ojibwa eagles (midget aaa). I dont want to see other small market college hockey teams either fold or move to division three which could happen if they dont stick together.

I agree that the WCHA won't take the CCHA but I don't understand why the consensus opinion is that the MTU will in no way leave the WCHA, especially if Notre Dame and Miami make the jump to the WCHA...what is MTU's reasoning for wanting to stay in the WCHA so bad? It seems silly if the only reason is for tradition's sake...with all of those quality programs also in that conference I don't see Tech getting anywhere near even a mediocre season...A switch to the CCHA would give them a better opportunity to compete and would lessen travel times for the school...

Yooper- I don't see any benefit to this conbination. You keep saying would the ccha survive, how does a combination with the wcha change things? What I see is it costs them a auto bid and it costs them games that they could possibly schedule out of conference against Michigan, Ohio St., and Michigan St. A 6 team Big Ten will allow plenty of games against old conference rivals.

Realignment would make alot more sense to me than a combination.

I wouldn't be opposed to an 8 team CCHA cutting their conference schedule back to 22 or 24 to allow for 10-14 non-conference games overall. That way, if teams are worried that a weaker conference is dragging them down, they've got more chances to go out and improve their standing vs. the WCHA and others, it gives schools that are worried about not getting the $ from hosting MSU/UM more open dates to get a 2 for 1 series or 5 away/3 home from them.

Notre Dame would probably be more than welcomed into HE. Besides the increased exposure for the league you would have BC wanting them in, and PC and UCONN (Yes I know they are only women for now but could be men) wanting them in since they are a Big East school and would want to help out a fellow Big East member.
