Re: CC @ Minnesota State 11/13-14
That was another pathetic effort from MSU. Lots of seniors and juniors out there and very little heart and leadership. There were a lot of loose pucks in front of the net all weekend and MSU never capitalized. That's why CC is playing way above where they were projected, and MSU is playing far below what they're capable of.
It probably tells you something about the officiating when a referee yells "Go to the box, Eleven" and the player wearing #11 for one team--without any argument or confusion--skates into the penalty box, while the #11 for the other team starts skating towards his bench, and the official has to skate over and explain, no, it's actually supposed to be the other way around.
As one-sided as things were, the penalty shot call was just bizarre. That was nowhere near a breakaway and the player definitely wasn't taken down from behind. I guess it's a good thing that didn't end up changing the game.
After MSU got that lucky bounce to make it 3-2, there were 4 pretty blatant infractions by CC that could have been called in those last 4 minutes. The only call that got made was a weak charging penalty on MSU with about 15 seconds left. Prior to this weekend, CC gave their opponent's, on average, about 6 powerplays per game, and MSU got 6 all weekend(if you can call some of those where there's a make-up call 20 seconds later a "powerplay"). It must just be bad luck that every team seems to play so much cleaner than they usually do against MSU.
